The week's long run, which did not feel good. Actually, it felt fine until I was about 5 miles from home with no choice but to struggle back or call an Uber. Sometimes it is easy and sometimes it isn't ... I'm starting to think I need to put some more structure into my running plan, both to better prepare for the long runs, and also to start improving my speed.0 -
Up early to drop off my kid at the train station so he could get to the start of the 122km Vancouver-Whistler Granfondo. A perfect day weather wise, it should be relatively cool despite clear skies and sun on the scenic Sea to Sky Highway.
As for myself, did 15 chocolate-banana bread powered kilometeres today, purposely keeping my HR lower and felt good. Watch says recovery 11 hours. That's better. A focus on sleeping better is in the cards, I've been burning the candle at both ends lately and I can feel it while running.
Today I'm also thinking of my MFP friend Nicholette who is running a mountain ultra today in Colorado. now enjoying the us final, so proud 2 Italians are playing, still cannot believe it!
@skippygirlsmom not really sure, it's a £8 lamp - but it does light very well0 -
Great weather here as well, so of course I decided to do my speed work session on the treadmill. Ran into a friend at lunch who gets to register for Boston tomorrow as a 20+ minute qualifier (nationally ranked masters runner) - still, he's injured pretty often, so I'm not too envious.
@HonuNui - did vegas last year with friends and had a blast, so looking forward to repeating it. Good to meet up at the pre race concert (as Maclemore was pretty good last year).

11.4 km today - What amounts to a long run for me - along the River Bank Trails with some short/sharp hills.
Lost close to a week of running due to a road trip for work- long days-Its one thing to do a dusk run in your home community- completely another in a unknown area that you are not familiar with. Did get in a few dreadmill runs but just don't get the same feeling as a trail run.
@5BeautifulDays You have lost 120 lbs in one year! and gone from couch to 10K in 6 months! We are our own worst critic - Yes you are okay and I not sure if you realize it - You are a Runner, and a dang good one .
@mwyvr said it best@endlessenigma Way to go on C25K week two! Keep it up! If you find a week too tough, don't fret, just repeat it.
@dawniemate Don't worry about walking breaks. If you need to, take them. If you find you need them more frequently on a particular day, try slowing down your run pace just a little more. Walking does not equal failure - repeat that often. It's just a phase of training and it's all GOOD.
So many posts - great runs everyone. Group Trail Run tomorrow so looking forward to it.0 -
So much going on to catch up on!! I am so far behind after missing just a couple of days. So glad it is Saturday so I can catch up with what everyone has been up to!
First and foremost @raqayyahsmum - {hugs} Thinking good thoughts for you :flowerforyou: Hope all goes well and there is good news!
@kstar_lee - Love the picture of your puppy! Definitely a cutie!
@RunTimer - Awesome race! Congratulations on the great pace! Sorry you missed the bus though and had to run home, further distance than the race itself!
@JoRocka - It is so nice to have runs that are so good you don't want them to end! Is your schedule back to normal (unwonky?) now?
@MrsKGrady - glad to see you back! Hope you are feeling much better!
@vandinem - So glad this group is helping to motivate you too - it sure keeps me getting out there even when everything seems to be conspiring against it!
@WhatMeRunning - 60F sounds wonderful! I am so looking forward to real rain runs and cooler weather! We'll see if I still feel that way if El Nino really hits though
@ACSL3 - I think maybe that person who pissed you off at work should get a prize for getting to get you run in
@7lenny7 - Your a racking up those miles! Hope you had a nice visit with your daughter!
@HonuNui - I LOVE the squid and the way it turned and looked at you!
@skippygirlsmom - Hope Skip does well at the big meet and that it isn't too chaotic!
@snha - Great job getting in back to back runs! Just be sure to give your body (legs especially) a day in your schedule for some good recovery
@dennie24 - So glad the new shoes seem to be helping!
@Nettiejb - Good luck on your half - just go out and enjoy it. Remember whatever you do will be a PR no matter what! I am pretty sure you will rock it though!
@monkeymintaka - The only race I have been to that I 'traveled' to was in San Francisco (about a 7 hour drive), but I do travel to San Diego quite a bit for races and spend the night. It is just a couple hours drive but not before an early race start (well it could be but no..)
@mwyvr - love that medicinal red wine!
@Elise4270 - how does the 620 fit? It looks so big! With the MRI findings can you still run or are you on rest now until November?
@runwithtoppa - Congratulations getting your first nonstop mile done! Don't stress about running - just do what you can, it may help to clear your head and take away some of the stress from all the other things life is throwing at you!
Got my new shoes today - can't wait to take them for a spin next week! Also got some very discounted Nike running tops - my favorites! Nothing better than new running gear!0 -
Just realized I hadn't updated my running status since last Tuesday. Work keeps getting in the way! I didn't get to run on Friday but it would have been too hot and going to the gym wasn't an option :noway: so I took it as an unplanned rest day and made up for it today. Got in a nice 14 mile run even though it was near 80F when I started out early this morning. Fortunately it was cloudy and didn't feel all that warm. We even got a sprinkling of rain for most of the last 7 miles. You know it is humid though when you can't tell that it is raining and think it is the sweat spraying off your hat/hair Seriously I did think that.

@shanaber last visit I was told I could continue to run, as long as I keep short strides. I'm hanging in there. Least I know why its been so dang hard to run without stopping often.
I'm busting my rear on miles, husband does maybe 10 a month. Just threw down 10+, no training to speak of... That so discouraging to me... I'm struggling to get 3 solid--punk..
I like the 620. It is a little big, But it didn't take long to get use to it. I usually only wear it running, walking, cycling.. I used it once for laps, and not so sure about the band in the chlorine. And it cost enough I didn't want to chance ruining it in the pool. Last watch I took scuba diving and got water in because I didn't get the water seal back in right after changing the battery, was the FR 70. Not a problem with this one since it charges.0 -

@dennie24 - glad you picked the right shoes!
@ohhim- I’m jealous of you getting to leave the FL heat. Although Vegas sounds hot to run to me.
@monkeymintaka - I’m going from Orlando to Long Island to run the Divas HM next month. Mainly doing it because my daughter lives in NYC and she talked me into it.
If I can ever get in a Nike HM I will fly anywhere for that. Want the Tiffany necklace. As far as around here, I will drive an hour to the beach to run in a 5K. So an hour drive for <30 minute run. @elise4270 - I don’t know what the diagnosis mean but hopefully they can help you.
@kristinegift - wow, awesome 5K time!!!
@skippygirlsmom - yes, D is ready I think. I feel bad for her because now that she’s out of college and working full time she sees how hard it is to actually get this HM training in! But she will be ready and beat me by 45 mins or so. How was the cross country today?
Tomorrow I am riding a 62 mile charity ride. Although they are calling for rain.. so we aren't sure if we are going to do it if it is raining at 7am when we arrive. Running in the rain is great. Biking in the rain is not so fun! It feels like you are getting hit by bullets and you can't see. So... if it is raining, I think I will do my long run tomorrow!
9/1 - 5.25 miles
9/2 - 3.55 miles

9/11 - 2 miles on the treadmill
9/13 - 5 miles, a little warm but not too bad weather
I tried out using the strava app for the first time today. Trying to decide if I want to do the premium or not. So far I like the app and I'm not sure there's much in premium I would want, but I'll keep using it and see.

@ddmom0811 thanks! Basically it means I have the equivalent of a rotator cuff tear in my hips..ruqayyahsmum wrote: »everyones doing brilliantly, i still come in and read everybodys run logs, great effort each and every one of you
love the snorkling video, we love fish in my house, we go to fish shops and marine aquariums most weekends
after 11 attempts the hospital finally managed to get bloods out of me to compare the bhcg number to that taken on saturday night/sunday morning and its quadrupled so im apparently still pregnant but even with a scan they failed to find out where so im to go back in a week and a half to see if they can see unless the bleeding gets worse or i get pain
im not cleared for anything more than short walks for a while so ill be putting the running kit away for a while
I'm a bit hit and miss on the post, so I've missed some info.... Early on, about 4-5 months, in to my twin pregnancy I had a bout of unexplained bleeding. Hope all is well with you and your family! We'll keep you in our thoughts and prayers!0 -
Well, this may lower my monthly totals, but I am in a taper for this next week now.
I had two half marathons scheduled for next weekend. Both were supposed to be training runs, both run at an easy pace (or maybe a long pace for the first one). The first race has been cancelled.
So I am thinking I will run my butt off on the one remaining and see what time I can get. I need a refresher on my times anyway. Not only will this week be reduced, but I will have a recovery week after that too.0 -
@WhatMeRunning that sounds like a plan. Exciting too!0

Friends: when I began running a couple of months ago, I was able to successfully deal with some pain in the knee hip area through stretching and strengthening of the muscles. Now, I need some suggestions with a different kind of pain: my left heal is bothering me. Not all the time or every time I run. But it has been bothering me to a greater extent in the last couple of days. Any suggestions for how to deal with that? Stretches, exercises? Thanks.0

I did it last year, also. Ran with son's father in law (son bailed tho he promised to do it). But, it turned out to be an impromptu family reunion and sister-wedding, so a good time was had by all!
I'll try to get to the pre-run concert (last year I showed up just in time to run--after stopping into a strip tourist trap to buy a t-shirt as the sleeveless wife-beater I was wearing was TOO COLD for the nighttime run!)

A glimpse into fall weather was so nice this morning. It was 61 when I started at 7:15 (the last few weeks it's been 70 or so at 5:45...) and 65 when I got done a little after 9:00. The run went great, but around mile 10 I could really feel yesterday's race. My heel was a little whiny (darn Achilles!) and my knees were a bit achy, but I'm sure they'll be back to normal tomorrow.

Best running weather I've experienced in nearly half a year this morning, as it was 50 degrees out when meeting up my Sunday AM running group. Returning to Florida Friday, so enjoying this while I can.
@ddmom0811 - when I ran vegas last year (evening race) it was about 50 degrees and no humidity, so definitely some pretty good race conditions for that time of year. Hoping it'll be similar as I'd like to shave a few minutes off my time from last year.
