Here is a blast from the past. Listening to an AT40 countdown from 1976.

An older song and relative unknown, so I'm only looking for the title of the song. Kind of an ear worm.

Brotherhood of Man / Bank Your Smooches For Me = [song]

I knew the song, but had to search for who performed it. My original guess was incorrect, so I'll sit in the penalty box.

I think this singer was a 'one hit wonder'.

This took a little bit of thinking. First I thought "Jean Arthur" as in King Arthur of the Round Table. But, I finally got it:

    Jean Knight/Mr. Big Stuff

    Gerry Rafferty/Baker Street

    Greatest sax solo...next to Jungleland!

I bought this LP, City to City, back in the day. Basically bought it for the song, Baker Street. On first listen, I was unimpressed with the rest of the record, except for the other hit, Right Down The Line. Then one day, I wanted to listen to something "new". I gave the record another spin. I felt like I had discovered gold. The whole album was great. It led me to buying his next LP, Night Owl (another good album), as well as some of his past records.

I've heard the sax solo was recorded completely separately, in another location. And the person playing it always hated it because it was off pitch somehow. I think he said it was a bit flat. I don't hear it that way.

This article says the sax soloist was paid 27.50 for his work. It's a good read.

It's one of the shortest top 40 songs I think I've ever heard.
