But that won't tell you if it helps. If you see a change, how will you determine that is due to the tea and not to the other changes you are making?0 -

I lost 50 pounds in about 4.5 months when I first started 3 years ago. I did things like severely restricting my calories (I'm 35 yo, 5'10", weighed 240lbs) to 1300 total (netting about 900), drinking green tea to boost my metabolism, avoiding "junk" food, etc. I crashed hard in my fifth month and gained almost 40 pounds back over the next 15 months. I drifted for a while around maintenance, losing 5 pounds, then gaining it back.
I really started reading through the forums during those months adrift. I learned how to achieve a sustainable calorie deficit that was healthy for me. I learned the concept of moderation and how to hit my nutrition goals. I added in strength training to complement my cardio (and now my cardio complements my strength training). Over the past 10 months, I've lost about 35 pounds. I've also increased my running pace from 11:30/mile to 9:00/mile. My lean muscle mass is definitely increased.0 -
I am pretty sure @DeguelloTex ate a lot of salsa. I bet that's the secret to his weight loss.0

I'm sorry. But I felt like I was reading Yoda's poetry.
Please, drink green tea or coffee if you like. They don't directly impact weight loss, but having a tasty low calorie drink certainly doesn't hurt. I like to sip on black coffee through the work day. It helps me when I want to eat out of boredom, but that's about it (but so does gum). There is no real downside to drinking either, so why not?0 -
I drink green tea, black coffee, a cup of warm lemon water daily. None of them aid in my weight loss. I drink green tea for the antioxidants, the lemon water because it is a natural diuretic and black coffee because there is nothing better.0

No, green tea doesn't have an
Effect on weight loss, even if you drink it in
Very large amounts. A calorie deficit is
Effective, and is the only
Really trustworthy method you need.
Green tea proponents rely
On studies that do
Not give conclusive results, but the know that
Natural remedies are big business now.
Alternative medicine proponents love to promote
Green tea because it is cheap and can be sold for an
Incredible markup in
Various preparations, capsules, and
Especially in compound supplements.
You end up paying a lot
Of money for ingredients that cost
Under a few cents, but give you no benefit.
Unfortunately, this is the state of the weight loss industry.

Would you please give a link to where you read this?
Probably places like this:

No, I don't believe this. But these kinds of lightweight, mainstream "health" publications toss this info around. Is there some strange animal-based or petri-dish experiment that shows this effect? Who knows, who cares.
Green tea tastes good (to me ). Why not drink it? Probably won't hurt you, within reason. If there's some mysterious benefit, you'll get it. If there isn't, you had some nice tea.
Betcha it doesn't work unless you also have a calorie deficit, though!0 -
I drink green tea like there's no tomorrow. But doing so doesn't help in weight loss, no matter how much I drink. What helps is eating all types of foods in such a balance that at the end of the day, I eat the amount of calories MFP has given me to lose 1lb a week. No secret diets, no fads, no just eating fruit all day everyday, or drinking just green tea. Eat a balanced meal everyday.0

I drink green tea because I like it.
I have heard it increases your metabolism & suppresses hunger.
Mostly, if I feel snacky, it feels comforting to have something in my hands (warm cup of tea) and something warm to consume that is zero calories & feels temporarily filling.0 -

So today you're going to have a few pieces of fruit and some green tea?
As mentioned over, and over, and over again, you need to eat a well rounded, healthy diet. Focus on nutrient dense foods and do not do extreme diets or try and find quick fixes. Eat to your calorie goal. Persistence, consistence, and accurate logging will help you reach your goal.0 -
Thankyou hi1350

Excellent strategy to keep from eating more than you burn.

I drink Matcha for the antioxidants and because I feel good after drinking it...sadly tho, it hasn't done anything for weight loss, though it would have been nice lol. If you are interested in trying green tea I would stay away from any product advertising the tea as a weight loss aid, and go get a quality tea from the grocery store. I like to mix a little honey in with mine, I think it makes it taste better - but that's me I've been drinking Rishi Matcha, two bags to one cup of water (not boiling) in the morning, the flavour can be a little over powering so adding a tablespoon of raw honey makes it more like dessert. Good luck!

By all means, drink as much as you like, just don't be disappointed when what everyone told you turns out to be true.0 -

Perhaps you should look beyond one week only.
As for green tea and coffee - do you like the flavor of either? Some people find that drinking fluids can help with hunger pangs (even just water). If you are having hunger pangs, you should also evaluate that you are eating enough calories and you are getting enough fats and proteins (both are satiating for a lot of people).0 -

Well, you, kinda. When you said you would have to try for yourself after half a dozen people told you it doesn't do anything.0 -

But you never stated why you drink so much green tea, is it because you like the taste? Do you feel like it's helping you in some way?
Why does it matter? The point he made is that it's not affecting his weight loss, which is what the OP asked.0 -

Hi candygibbons26,
"Some evidence suggests that the use of green tea preparations improves mental alertness, most likely because of its caffeine content. There are not enough reliable data to determine whether green tea can aid in weight loss, lower blood cholesterol levels, or protect the skin from sun damage."
