I'm a massive fan of the Bourne movies. But that fourth installment WITHOUT Jason Bourne was just diabolical :explode:

    ^^^^^ Absolutely agree!!

And the follow-ups of Pirates of the Carribean were pathetic, to say the least!

The third Halloween...the one that didn't even have Michael Myers in it...what a waste. I liked the Rob Zombie remakes, though, but I consider them different since they are not like the original stories (the first one kinda, but def. not the second).

Yeah, originally Mike Myers was dead at the end of Halloween II, but when the "new story for every movie" idea flopped they decided to just keep brining him back.

How can you have one without Michael Myers?!!!!!!! Defeating the purpose here.

    No one has said Twilight..

Or is that just a given?

I didn't see them, and just assumed they were all awful. so if the first one sucked, then any number of sequels couldn't really "kill" it further, right?

Also, I kind of disagree with the OP's question of sequels that "killed" the first one. I mean, just because Ghostbusters 2 of Caddychack 2 were trash doesn't mean that people don't still love the the first installments... they just (rightfully) pretend the others don't exist.

Doesn't count because they should have never made the first one.

Fast and Furious... They could have stopped at 2 honestly. They are all great movies but they are just getting very annoying now

well, when each one keeps making more money than the previous, I don't see them stopping.

Die Hard... I mean Die Hard and Die Hard 2 are both excellent Christmas movies, the rest of the Die Hard sequels do not take place during Christmas time. It's just awful.

Just kidding. I love all of the Die Hard movies.

Terminator. After T2 they should have stopped.

Fast and Furious. I enjoyed most of them, really. But I wasn't thrilled with Tokyo Drift, and this last one.
My jury is still out on Grease 2.....mostly because "Cool Rider" gets stuck in my head.
Save the Last Dance 2.....I couldn't even finish watching it.
Dirty Dancing 2 I'm iffy on.

Any movie where a significant amount of time (say 5+ years) has passed between the last movie in the series and the new one. For example, the Indiana Jones and Die Hard movies that came out about 15-20 years after their last installment. Don't care if you were able to round up original actors and you're putting 'their kids' in it for a spin. Still sucks, don't do it, let the originals live in their own glory....

Which movies did you feel should've been left as they were and were 'killed' by the sequels, trilogies and more than followed after?

I have a general rule. If it has a number after it, it's probably not worth seeing. It's held true about 98% of the time. Sequels really ruin things. It's easier to name the exceptions than the rule.

LOTR was terrible...I wish they'd have left that one after the first.

There are 2 sequels...and both are equally horrible.

    My picks are:

    The above-mentioned Major League

Fast & the Furious...I wouldn't say they "killed" the original; but really...6 movies?

    Die Hard...again...just overkill

    The Matrix...2 & 3 were horrible

Shrek...2 was better than the first, IMO ; but, I think we all know that 3 & 4 were just an excuse to flood the stores with more toys

Twilight...it's like they purposely found the worst actors in Hollywood & brought them together to make 5 abominations

LOTR was terrible...I wish they'd have left that one after the first.

And then they had to make that Hobbit tripe. It's not even a complete story and only loosely fits in with the original. What garbage.

No. This can't be true. That's a horrible idea.

Also, didn't they already do a sequel, but it was a Summer Story or something like that? I remember spinning tops in it. And hethey had red neck neighbors the dad feuded with? It was cute.

    1.) Gone with the Wind
2.) Star Wars prequels and sequels...please. Leave it alone.
3.) Indiana Jones...Why, dear God, why?
4.) Shrek...leave well enough alone. The first one was hilarious and unique...the horse is dead. Quit beating on it.
5.) Avatar. I haven't even seen it yet and I can already say, please don't.
  • Indiana Jone: Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.....Seriously, wth....
