got reynold's so I hope I can find something that works,

Have you tried something like this:

    Heated Gloves

If you have Raynauds then conventional gloves won't be of much use. You will probably need something which has an independent heat source such as a battery.

I tried the stuff you put on the microwave - just for walks - but it didn't work

my hands are completely useless after a cold run, cannot remove my shoes, clothes etc, plus I already broke a few bowls pouring cereals everywhere on the floor :sunglasses:

It's always going to suck when your hands get cold until they warm up again.

Maybe try having a chat with the Raynaud's & Scleroderma Association to see if they have any advice if you haven't done so already.

@kristinegift sounds like a good plan. I can sympathize with this nasty case of piriformis syndrome. Which is just one layer of my onion. Smart to address it before it becomes chronic or leads to something more serious..

Hey runners- I think I have a sprained big toe. The same area that usually indicates gout. I have increased my pace, my gait is off, and I'm rehabing muscle imbalance. I'm almost sure it the pacing and push off.

10k Thursday. Any ideas what I can do to help it along? Or rule out gout, which I'm sure it just couldn't be. It's not red, doesn't get worse at night. It's worse with use.

    Thanks.

Edit: I may spring for a stiffer shoe?

Re sprained toe: I had some issues with my big toe tendon in the spring, and it went away pretty quickly if I taped my big toe and 2nd toe together (basically I was over-using my big toe when I was striding). You could try and see if that helps, maybe?

I’ve been SO crappy about exercise/running for awhile so this is the reset month. I’m setting
the bar a bit lower..want to get in 2 miles a day so I’ll go for 60 but I really want to exceed that.

    11/01: No run
11/02: Didn’t do any yesterday but I got in a respectable 3.2 today.
    11/03: No run
    11/04: No run
11/05: Not a lot of time this morning but I did get in 2.9.
    11/06: No run
    11/07: No run
    11/08: No run
    11/09: No run
    11/10: No run
    11/11: No run
    11/12: No run
    11/13: No run
11/14: 3.2 miles this morning. The start of getting consistent with this again I hope
11/15: No running, busy busy day
11/16: 3 miles in first frost of the year. Fast pace (for me), 10:20/mile. 
11/17: 3 miles (saw a doe and her fawn!)
    11/18: Rest day
    11/19: No run 
    11/20: 3.42 miles at a good pace (10:20s). Knocking on the door of a 10 minute mile…
    11/21: No run
    11/22: No run
    11/23: No run
11/24: Only had about 20 minutes but got 2.3 in..good clip, very low tens, one of my splits was in the 9 minutes!! Goal is probably off the table though with another 40 to go and only 6 days to get there…

I'll have to catch up on the posts soon. Oh I had to add this, it's a post from the run we are doing Thursday. 65F I'm thinking shorts and tank top, never mind my "outer most layer" LOL

Hi all! I'd say I will try and catch up, but this month is almost over and there is a TON of posts in here!

I'm allowing myself time to recover from my marathons over the last month. I really want to run, I have running on the brain like you would not believe! But I really ramped up my training throughout all of 2015 and never had any sort of break between my spring races and summer training. So I better be kind to this body and legs that have rewarded me for all of that effort!

I'll be back here in December when I plan to start on my spring training plan.

Good luck everyone, and be careful all of you who have raced your legs off this fall!

I came across a book mentioned in an article on Runner's World. It's "Anatomy of Runners". I think it'll help me a lot. It's geared to address running injuries. Not your typical R.I.C.E. plan. It's like 10 bucks. Can preview a large section of the book for free.

Been away for a while... was fun reading posts from old friends and seeing new faces... just started my training program this week for a spring trail race. Will get a ticker going when @Stoshew71 opens the December challenge... looking forward to talking to runners again...

@skippygirlsmom It is always rough to loose someone in that manner

I also am trying to figure out the best way to dress in our 50F turkey trot. There is a fun factor of the wind from Lake Michigan making it a little more complicated

@moyer566 the wind always gets me too. 50F if sunny I'd so capris and a short sleeve top. At my last race I won a "windbreaker" vest, it's nylon in the front but mesh on the back. A cyclist there said he has a similar one and it's the bomb in the wind, blocks it but you don't get hot.

Layers. Wear something that will keep you warm at the starting line but you can immediately take off during the run. I plan on going to the Thrift store and pick up a cheap $3 sweat hoodie. I can put it on at the start of my marathon and if I toss it to the side of the road at mile 4 (the first aid stop) never to be seen again, then it's no big deal.

They also sell arm sleeves and calf sleeves at the running store that sort of work the same way. You put them on, and when you warm up, you can quickly take them off and hide them in a pocket or storage bag that you are carrying around your waist. Or maybe just keep them in your hand until you can pass them off to your friend that is waiting on the side of the road. Just some ideas.

That is so sweet!! Thank you! I'm feeling really good at the moment.. I was a bit late getting my daughter to Gala night last night where she was performing and had no choice but to do a light jog to get her into the concert hall on time.. And no pain! I was in some old, cheap flats and my daughter thought I was hilarious citing the words "don't hurt yourself, don't hurt yourself" all the way to the door

Just caught up on the past few days of posting. Again thank you everyone.

@stoshew71 loved the video in the running store, I might have been in that store ha ha
    @karllundy how is the cold
@ddmom0811 you can thank me for bringing cooler weather here. Your doggie is too sweet
@beachhouse758 great job on completing C25K. I agree with stoshew71 rest the day before your 5K if it's your first since you don't know how your body reacts to no rest before a race
@mrsgrady14 great job getting out in the freezing cold for your race, I hope the next one is warmer!
@virkati sorry you aren't feeling well - there is so much going around
@shanaber I had to laugh at the weather post too.
    @5beautifuldays you feel better also
    @_nikkiwolf_ what a beautiful picture

Just quickly.. Have used the Nike+ app a few times now but find it drains my battery really fast.. It went from 59% down to 32% after a 30 minute walk!

Obviously that means when Istart running and adding longer runs would mean using more .. Not a good thing!

Have decided to go ahead with Strava after all..As long as its not so draining?

@Elise4270 and @Stoshew71 how do you find Strava when it comes to using battery? I know itcan also depend on the type of phone you have but am just curious.

6 km run along the River Bank at 8:50pm in the Dark - Well it is a brilliant Moon tonight so not really that dark, didn't even need to use my Headlamp.
CCCCold though -18C and with the windchill -24C. It was a strange effect tonight as the weather network shows a SW 9 km/h wind and that is very close to what I was running. So after the turn for home every time I exhaled I created my own little personal Fog Bank that stayed with me as I was running. :p
This cold temp made me realize I need new Head gear, that little Extra Length at the ears to cover the bottom of my lobes when it is this cold. Heat wave coming as it will be back to 0C by end of day tomorrow night so I will be running in a ball cap.

better today, woke up with no pain again and managed to run without too much discomfort. but the funny thing is that yesterday evening while playing, my 50kg fluffy son decided it was good to jump on my leg and twist it - guess which one? as a result, I couldn't even sleep for the pain.

so the worse I feel the night before, the less painful is the morning after? It's really something I don't understand at all (unless I either got crazy or lost the ability to evaluate body pain or both)

it was really quiet, and I wasn't too weak. many many deers sleeping, love them. of course it rained a little bit at the beginning, and run upwind uphill for the last 1 mile, but better just 1 than 13!

I wish I could go to bed now, it is really though to wake up at 4 with a super inspiring cold, wet, dark weather... :s

today's random running thought: in the middle of my rain (just noticed I wrote "rain" and not "run", still obsessed and annoyed with yesterday drizzle) , while I was checking the leg, shushing my other me (stop - stop - stop - give up - give up - go to bed - go to bed etc), scaring deers, I thought "why I don't try cereals with warm milk?" - so I did, that was my treat for the HM, and I was not impressed

just a question to the community: what do you think of streak runners?

Just quickly.. Have used the Nike+ app a few times now but find it drains my battery really fast.. It went from 59% down to 32% after a 30 minute walk!

Obviously that means when Istart running and adding longer runs would mean using more .. Not a good thing!

Have decided to go ahead with Strava after all..As long as its not so draining?

@Elise4270 and @Stoshew71 how do you find Strava when it comes to using battery? I know itcan also depend on the type of phone you have but am just curious.

Currently, I only use my phone when I forget my Garmin. I did use it exclusively on 60-90 minute bike rides and never had a problem with the battery. Even paired with a chest strap.

@kareF I find that when my battery is low, it drains faster. I find I can lose 10 to 20% depending on where in the battery it is during a hour or two run. I use runkeeper, though, not nike + or strava
warm milk has never been my favorite :)@patrikc333 I think streak runners are impressive but it only needs to be a mile to count, so that seems a little less impressive. but still it takes great commitment. I just read this article about a guy who had a streak he didn't want to break

@skippygirlsmom - Cold never got too bad...stuffy, sneezy and itchy over the weekend, but good by Monday.

    11/1 - rest day / Halloween Hangover
    11/2 - 5.25 miles, 55° at 5:30 a.m. in Iowa! Nuts, but I love it!
11/3 - 4 miles on indoor track followed by weights / abs. After running mostly outside for six months, you can run pretty fast on a flat, indoor surface.
11/4 - 5.1 miles, again about 55° at 5:00 a.m. Getting spoiled by the weather!
11/5 - woke up with some major heel pain...a touch of plantar fasciitis perhaps. Decided to take my rest day early and try again tomorrow.
11/6 - 4 miles on indoor track + weights / abs. Heel feeling better, but not completely pain free.
    11/7 - 6 miles on a gorgeous morning!
11/8 - 4 miles on another gorgeous day! Tried to get my daughter to come with, but she just wanted to walk...so I did that first.
11/9 - 4 miles on indoor track, followed by lots of stretching
    11/10 - Rest Day.
11/11 - 4 miles on indoor track, then weights and abs.
11/12 - 5.1 miles on treadmill (Trek class)...always seems to be the most difficult run of the week.
11/13 - Unplanned rest day due to catastrophic appliance failure in my home :/
11/14 - 6.2 chilly but lovely miles in DSM...running out of these kinds of days I am afraid.
11/15 - 4.7 beautiful miles around my neighborhood...lots of stinky female gingko trees
    11/16 - planned rest day
11/17 - 4 miles on indoor track, with weights and abs after (soggy, rainy day here...definitely November)
11/18 - 5 miles before it started dumping cold rain again. Not sure why, but this was a GREAT run! Felt good, relaxed, enjoyed the damp, windy and warm-for-November weather. Runs like this are super!
11/19 - 5 miles on treadmill (Trek class)...lots of speed work
11/20 - 0. It appears I caught a cold from @skippygirlsmom ;) Decided to take it easy to make sure I have the energy to deal with the 5-10" of snow coming our way this afternoon.
11/23 - 4 miles on indoor track, weights and abs after. Cannot remember the last time I went 3 days in a row without running. Totally lazy this weekend. Closest thing to a workout was shoveling the driveway for an hour on Saturday.
11/24 - 4 miles on indoor track + 5 miles on stationary bike
11/25 - 4.25 miles. 48° on the day before Thanksgiving at 5 a.m.! Serious bonus!

I disagree as well for the 1 mile - it takes more effort in dressing up than running the mile

but let's also don't forget that many don't run just 1 mile
