Really really grateful for exercise at the moment! Just had some stressful news and felt pretty upset so managed to get in a quick walk and it calmed me down immensely. A mole I had removed is Melanoma and I need to have more tissue removed.

Sorry to hear ill news for you like this. Please accept my prayers for better results and quick recovery.

I’ve been SO crappy about exercise/running for awhile so this is the reset month. I’m setting
the bar a bit lower..want to get in 2 miles a day so I’ll go for 60 but I really want to exceed that.
    11/01: No run
11/02: Didn’t do any yesterday but I got in a respectable 3.2 today.
    11/03: No run
    11/04: No run
11/05: Not a lot of time this morning but I did get in 2.9.
    11/06: No run
    11/07: No run
    11/08: No run
    11/09: No run
    11/10: No run
    11/11: No run
    11/12: No run
    11/13: No run
11/14: 3.2 miles this morning. The start of getting consistent with this again I hope
11/15: No running, busy busy day
11/16: 3 miles in first frost of the year. Fast pace (for me), 10:20/mile. 
11/17: 3 miles (saw a doe and her fawn!)
    11/18: Rest day
    11/19: No run 
    11/20: 3.42 miles at a good pace (10:20s). Knocking on the door of a 10 minute mile…
    11/21: No run
    11/22: No run
    11/23: No run
11/24: Only had about 20 minutes but got 2.3 in..good clip, very low tens, one of my splits was in the 9 minutes!!
    11/25: No run
11/26: “Virtual” turkey trot (I’m poor). 3.5 miles

I really was not going to run at all this week. But I woke up without crippling soreness today and thought it would be nice to get a little workout in. So I went to the apartment gym to bike for 20-30 mins, but the gym was locked! So I took my butt outside and ran 2 miles -- super easy, and the flattest route I could find. My legs felt ok. My quads and shins are still a bit sore, and my hamstring is still weak, so I'll be keeping my mileage low for a while and focusing on cross-training starting tomorrow. It was nice to get out and not feel as awful as I'd anticipated, though. So that's something to be thankful for :)

Happy Thanksgiving, all! May all your Trots be followed by turkey! ;)

@kareF I'm so sorry about your news. I'll pray for having caught it super early and I'm going to be much more diligent about protection. I'm in Denver now, was born and raised in Florida (we NEVER used sun block as a kid). In Denver, we are a mile closer to the sun than sea level US and I got sloppy this summer about protecting my skin. I will be much more careful now.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! Skip and I did the 15K Challenge today..OMG the course was a straight and I mean freaking straight out and back, this type of course plays with me mentally. I like to make turns LOL This how straight this course was my watch read EXACTLY 3.1 for the 5K and EXACTLY 6.2 for the 10K on the nose for both races.
    My time:
    5K 28:18 a 9:06 pace 5th in AG,
    10K 1:02.18 a 10:03 pace 2nd in AG

    Skip's time:
    5K 24:34 3rd in AG
    10K 1:01.40 5th in AG.
She finished FIRST in her AG for the 15K Challenge, no idea where I finished yet. She did GREAT! She came home with 4 medals and a coffee mug.

About 1/4 mile into 5K Skip stopped to go to the bathroom ha ha and couldn't get out of stall so she climbed under the door and STILL ran a 24:34 ha ha

    A couple pictures:

    Thinking of you @kareF !!

5 snowy miles for me this morning. It took me 1:04:15. Definitely no where close to a lot of you awesome people but that is a pr for me and getting closer to my goal of 5 miles in an hour. Considering I started with 16 minute miles after coming back from my stress fracture, I am pretty happy. :)

After reading all this discussions about streak running, I was really tempted to do the holiday streak. But I shot any change for that to hell today when I dropped a piece of furniture on my big toe. I'm super annoyed at myself right now!
I have safety shoes for work, and what do I wear for dragging around heavy stuff at home? No shoes at all, just socks. facepalm.gif
Warning: If you don't want to hear any details, better skip the rest of my whining below...

The toe bled a lot and quickly turned blue. I spent the next 15 minutes cooling it and reading some scary stuff on the internet (when will I ever learn not to google illnesses/injuries?!), before I gave up and I went to see a doctor.
I'm still undecided if that was the right idea or not - the pain was manageable before, but after all the cleaning and desinfecting and poking and prodding he did I can barely walk anymore. Though at least now I have the confirmation that it isn't broken, and I should consider myself lucky the the nail is so badly torn up, there is very little chance that blood will be trapped underneath and build up pressure. After some more torture, the doc just wrapped it up and told my to guard against infection, rather than drilling any holes in the nail or doing other gruesome stuff I read about. ....lucky me, I guess?

So after I spent the last hour eating way too much chocolate, feeling sorry for myself because it hurts like crazy and I can't imagine being able to walk anywhere in the near future, much less running, I've decided to get a grip. There are much worse things that can happen!
I just had to come here and whine about it anyway, because none of my "real life" friends will understand why not running is a bad thing...

@kareF I just read this, and I am so, so deeply sorry to hear that you got these bad news!
Now I feel super bad about complaining about a hurt big toe. I wish you all the best, and that the treatment will be successful fast!

Thanks everyone. Pretty sure I've caught it early enough. They just take extra tissue around the original area to make sure they have it all so its more precaution I think. I'm not sure what stage though my Dr. thinks we got to it in time. It was on my back, between my shoulder blades and I had to have my husband keep an eye on it for me. Im just going to walk as much as i can to help keep stress at bay and im feeling very grateful! My poor children have also had the biggest lecture of their lives now :smirk: but I think I got through to them.

    11/1 - 3.81 C25k W1D3 (.73 + 2.32 + .76)
    11/2 - 5.78 walking lunch break + evening walk (3.3 + 2.48)
    11/3 - 2.99 C25k W2D1 + continuation of lunch run (2.09 + .9)
11/4 - 1.78 nice, easy, comfortable lunch walk.
    11/5 - 3.13 C25k W2D2 + 180 spm practice (2.23 + .9)
    11/6 - 4.61 walking lunch break + evening walk (2.36 + 2.25)
    11/7 - 2.16 C25k W2D3 (2.16)
11/8 - Full rest day. Was my 1 yr anniversary for starting to lose weight so I went SHOPPING!!
    11/9 - Full rest day.
    11/10 - 6.17 C25k W3D1 + 180 spm practice (2.24 + .7) C25k repeat + 180 spm practice (2.01 + 1.22)
11/11 - 2.8 walking lunch break *noon after the first snowfall of the season. I was overdressed. (Again)*
    11/12 - 2.93 C25k W3D2 + continuation of lunch run (2.12 + .81)
11/13 - Events of the day truly made it Friday the 13th. But it's over and possibly lent itself to the personal best of the next day!
11/14 - 6.01 Longest run of my life! MOD (mantra of the day) "Far, not fast." Was supposed to do C25k W3D3 but I forgot lol.
11/15 - Recovery day. **Never really knew what that meant before.
    11/16 - 2.98 C25k W3D3 + continuation of lunch run (2.08 + .9)
    11/17 - Snowmageddon!
    11/18 - Wind day
    11/19 - 3.31 C25k W4D1 + continuation of lunch run (2.33 + .98)
    11/20 - Sick day
    11/21 - Sick day
    11/22 - Sick day
11/23 - 4.1 Sick day- but HAD to get out and do SOMETHING!
11/24 - 4.19 Not my best experience but I was really glad to be out and doing it. I'm still learning how to dress for the weather so that I'm focused on running and not on my comfort level. Had to not let myself quit, and allow myself to walk when I felt I needed it. I'm not at 100% and had to let myself do what I could without expectations. THAT was hard!
11/25 - 3.02 Was supposed to be a walk day but I really just wanted to run. So I did. Today was easier than last night and I expect to do even better when I'm back to feeling normal again.
11/26 - 3.45 Treadmill. I hate that damned thing. BUT, at least it was indoors and not outside with the snow falling onto black ice that I won't see until I'm face down trying to peel my lips off of it lol.

@kareF glad you caught it early and am sure your healthy attitude will stand you in good stead. Best wishes.

I managed a 5km tonight. All my km's are treadmill just now as it is wet and slippy here all winter and have broken 3 bones within 2 years by falling whilst just walking. Nearly there! Will do 2km tomorrow night and will then try for the last 8km Saturday: that would be the longest I have done in many years so can live with finishing the challenge on Sunday if I think I am pushing too hard for 8km.

@GBrady43068 Congratulations on your virtual Trot. Extra kudos for pushing yourself out to do it on your own...

Storm is coming in here... Guess no outside running here for a few days.Too bad, Physically I've really turned a corner. Aw well, I have a book coming tomorrow, about running, so least I'll keep my mind focused.

Hey all. Been gone again for several days. This time I have a better excuse ;) I was doing a bunch of housework, packing, and then traveling. My Wednesday started at 0530 in the morning when I woke up - had my first flight at 3:30 Japan time - one layover in Korea and then landed in Seattle at 11:00 am PST (11hrs total in the air) - still Wednesday haha. Long long day yesterday! Hey, but now I'm on the same or much closer time zone as some of you all ;)

Great job for all of you who ran a race recently!! I have to go back and read the last few pages but I'm sure you all did awesome

Went running with my Dad this morning, which was great - 6.2 miles in 1:14 (11:55 avg). He doesn't run as far as me, so he might just do part of my long run with me this Saturday but it's awesome to have him run with me whenever he wants to join me :) He did the total 6.2 with me today. Now I'm sitting at my Grandma's helping with the Thanksgiving cooking when I can. Hope everyone (in the US anyway) has a great Thanksgiving! @MomaMollyT - hope your family had a great Thanksgiving yesterday in Okinawa

I still have another 1.5 pages to read through, but I just have to say that when I first saw @patrikc333 ask about streak runners I wasn't sure if we were talking about people who run everyday or people who run without clothing... ;)

Really really grateful for exercise at the moment! Just had some stressful news and felt pretty upset so managed to get in a quick walk and it calmed me down immensely. A mole I had removed is Melanoma and I need to have more tissue removed. I know I say I can't wait to run again.. Though I am just grateful today that I can walk.. That I have my health and my family are well.. I honestly don't understand how people cannot exercise.. Just a walk - I feel so much better for it!... and it also serves as a timely reminder to have your skin checked regularly!! I'm glad I did!

I'm so sorry to hear this! Are they going to scan your or do some sort of skin check to make sure there isn't more? I'm glad to hear your doctor is positive about it

@_nikkiwolf_ - ouch! Happy it's not broken and hopefully the pain from the prodding will wear off soon :)

Unfortunately, it runs in the family, as well as having pale skin and a wide variety of moles.. I have skin checks every 6-12 months as it is. I think now I will have to have them every 3 months and just keep an eye on them. I am going back next week to have the surrounding tissue removed. I probably won't know any more until then so for the mean time I'm just relieved I got it checked (It has only been 3-4 months since my last check.. This one mole started turning black in one part and my husband had been keeping an eye on it for me so I went back before my next skin check was due). I think the next part depends on what stage this melanoma is.. but I won't know that until I see my doctor in person.

About 1/4 mile into 5K Skip stopped to go to the bathroom ha ha and couldn't get out of stall so she climbed under the door and STILL ran a 24:34 ha ha

Poor Skip having to climb under the door  Great time though! And you both look thrilled!!

@kareF I just read this, and I am so, so deeply sorry to hear that you got these bad news!
Now I feel super bad about complaining about a hurt big toe. I wish you all the best, and that the treatment will be successful fast!

Complain away!! That sounds incredibly painful! You had me gritting my teeth just reading about it. Keep elevating it when you can and try to stay off it.. Sounds soo sore! Hope the pain goes away soon and you're back up on your feet asap!

Up north of the border where it isn't thanksgiving, but where I can still partake in black Friday specials via the internet. Loving the colder weather here as I got in 12.5 miles today via both an easy run and a threshold interval run tonight, as my "easy" heart rate zone pace was about 2 minutes/mile faster than in Florida. Planning a bunch more long slow easy runs while I'm in this climate, as I'd like to reach the 190 mile mark for the month, even though 220 isn't going to happen.

    11/1 - 4 miles
    11/2 - 4 miles
    11/3 - 9 miles
    11/4 - 6 miles
    11/6 - 2 miles
    11/8 - 6.2 miles
    11/9 - 4 miles
    11/10 - 11 miles
    11/11 - 5 miles
    11/12 - 11 miles
    11/14 - 3 miles
    11/15 - 15 miles (w. 1:32:46 LV half marathon)
    11/17 - 7 miles
    11/18 - 4 miles
    11/19 - 8 miles
    11/21 - 4 miles
    11/22 - 16 miles
    11/23 - 5 miles
    11/24 - 8.5 miles
    11/26 - 12.5 miles

    Total: 145 miles
    Target: 220 miles
    Remaining: 75 miles

just a question to the community: what do you think of streak runners?

Big fan of cross training here and not running 1-2 days/week. No qualms at my end with taking a full day off if my body doesn't feel right. Usually I can tell if something is off (excess soreness, localized pain) and I would rather skip a day here or there vs. having to take off 3-4 weeks with a more serious injury. Still, if my body is fatigued, but I really need a run, I'll also just swap out a speedwork/quality session with an easy session, or even do an easy session at 5+ minutes/mile slower than my half marathon pace.
