@GBrady43068 Congratulations on your virtual Trot. Extra kudos for pushing yourself out to do it on your own...
@Virkati lol! Lips! Good call!
@_nikkiwolf_ ouch! I'll wear my steel toe boots outside, but wouldn't have thought to wear 'em moving furniture..Whine away, we understand and hope it heals fast!
Storm is coming in here... Guess no outside running here for a few days.Too bad, Physically I've really turned a corner. Aw well, I have a book coming tomorrow, about running, so least I'll keep my mind focused.

Hey all. Been gone again for several days. This time I have a better excuse I was doing a bunch of housework, packing, and then traveling. My Wednesday started at 0530 in the morning when I woke up - had my first flight at 3:30 Japan time - one layover in Korea and then landed in Seattle at 11:00 am PST (11hrs total in the air) - still Wednesday haha. Long long day yesterday! Hey, but now I'm on the same or much closer time zone as some of you all
Great job for all of you who ran a race recently!! I have to go back and read the last few pages but I'm sure you all did awesome
Went running with my Dad this morning, which was great - 6.2 miles in 1:14 (11:55 avg). He doesn't run as far as me, so he might just do part of my long run with me this Saturday but it's awesome to have him run with me whenever he wants to join me He did the total 6.2 with me today. Now I'm sitting at my Grandma's helping with the Thanksgiving cooking when I can. Hope everyone (in the US anyway) has a great Thanksgiving! @MomaMollyT - hope your family had a great Thanksgiving yesterday in Okinawa

I still have another 1.5 pages to read through, but I just have to say that when I first saw @patrikc333 ask about streak runners I wasn't sure if we were talking about people who run everyday or people who run without clothing...0

Really really grateful for exercise at the moment! Just had some stressful news and felt pretty upset so managed to get in a quick walk and it calmed me down immensely. A mole I had removed is Melanoma and I need to have more tissue removed. I know I say I can't wait to run again.. Though I am just grateful today that I can walk.. That I have my health and my family are well.. I honestly don't understand how people cannot exercise.. Just a walk - I feel so much better for it!... and it also serves as a timely reminder to have your skin checked regularly!! I'm glad I did!
I'm so sorry to hear this! Are they going to scan your or do some sort of skin check to make sure there isn't more? I'm glad to hear your doctor is positive about it
@_nikkiwolf_ - ouch! Happy it's not broken and hopefully the pain from the prodding will wear off soon0 -
Thanks guys.. Not letting it get me down. Just looking forward to kicking butt!I'm so sorry to hear this! Are they going to scan your or do some sort of skin check to make sure there isn't more? I'm glad to hear your doctor is positive about it
Unfortunately, it runs in the family, as well as having pale skin and a wide variety of moles.. I have skin checks every 6-12 months as it is. I think now I will have to have them every 3 months and just keep an eye on them. I am going back next week to have the surrounding tissue removed. I probably won't know any more until then so for the mean time I'm just relieved I got it checked (It has only been 3-4 months since my last check.. This one mole started turning black in one part and my husband had been keeping an eye on it for me so I went back before my next skin check was due). I think the next part depends on what stage this melanoma is.. but I won't know that until I see my doctor in person.0 -

Now I feel super bad about complaining about a hurt big toe. I wish you all the best, and that the treatment will be successful fast!
Complain away!! That sounds incredibly painful! You had me gritting my teeth just reading about it. Keep elevating it when you can and try to stay off it.. Sounds soo sore! Hope the pain goes away soon and you're back up on your feet asap!0 -
@karef - so sorry. Prayers for you.
@snha - congratulations!

Up north of the border where it isn't thanksgiving, but where I can still partake in black Friday specials via the internet. Loving the colder weather here as I got in 12.5 miles today via both an easy run and a threshold interval run tonight, as my "easy" heart rate zone pace was about 2 minutes/mile faster than in Florida. Planning a bunch more long slow easy runs while I'm in this climate, as I'd like to reach the 190 mile mark for the month, even though 220 isn't going to happen.

patrikc333 wrote: »just a question to the community: what do you think of streak runners?
Big fan of cross training here and not running 1-2 days/week. No qualms at my end with taking a full day off if my body doesn't feel right. Usually I can tell if something is off (excess soreness, localized pain) and I would rather skip a day here or there vs. having to take off 3-4 weeks with a more serious injury. Still, if my body is fatigued, but I really need a run, I'll also just swap out a speedwork/quality session with an easy session, or even do an easy session at 5+ minutes/mile slower than my half marathon pace.0 -

Good work to everyone getting out this week!! December is nearly here! I am hopefully picking up my Asics on Monday. My ankle is feeling pretty good.. I'm thinking of doing a trial 100m light jog maybe late next week (week 4 of recovery)..0 -
Congratulations to everyone running races today! @skippygirlsmom, @snha, @rogue024 and anyone else I missed!
On the topic of streaking - I know of at least one runner in the challenge last year who did a streak just to motivate herself to keep running through the cold cold winter... its not for me but it worked for her. My motivation is seeing my time drop and keeping a non-injury streak!
@_nikkiwolf_ - OUCH! I hope your toe feels better soon!
@karef - I hope the news on the melanoma in the surrounding tissue is good. It runs in my family too and my dad had several removed along with the additional tissue removal as well. Not fun but if you stay on top of monitoring it like you seem to be you can catch them early. Good job talking to your kids too - my daughter is a sunscreen fanatic now
@kareF's post made me wonder how many of you wear sunscreen when you go out for a run? My dermatologist wanted me to wear 'special' long-sleeved shirts that block the sun, when I run but I can't imagine running in the heavy fabric, especially in the summer. I do put sunscreen on every time before I go out and I always wear a hat.0 -

WhatMeRunning wrote: »I know I haven't been in this month's challenge but I wanted to chime in with my perspective about streak running.
I see people who do 7 day/week running as part of their normal plans but are not streak runners because they have recovery weeks where they may take one day of rest that week along with the decrease in mileage that week. I also see people who run every day as streak runners but they take low mileage days for their recovery. In each case the only people I have seen doing either of these regularly are veteran runners who have been running with high base mileage for at least a few years. Those with less experience tend to only be able to do these things for a period of time and then have to fall back (or stop entirely for a while from an injury).
I know I am not at that point yet, but I have gone from where I started with 3 days/week to now running 6 days/week. It was a very noticeable change each time I added a day.
I would LOVE to be able to run 7 days/week to bump up that mileage, or even just to maintain mileage and maybe get a few extra minutes in one or more of the other 6 days where I have to fit in a medium-long run to hit my target weekly mileage. But I need that rest day still along with recovery weeks.
Streak runners also tend to do their streaks for a time and then typically take time off from running. Their recovery week may be a full week off from running in between streaks.
How you get your mileage can vary, the key is to be smart, only do what your body will allow, and take care of yourself.
Just my thoughts.
@WhatMeRunning That's a great post, and I love your profile bio!
I've only been running since September 22. I run 3 days a week. Been doing C25K on two of those days, and doing my best on Saturdays at parkrun.0 -

I'm alive!I spent all yesterday in worrying about today, but thankfully my legs were about ok. I hate how stubborn I am, went again to the park but it's too muddy and dark. Pace was ridiculous but I'm happy I've done it. The best tactic to run on a mud is to be as much heavy as I can, in that way I'm more stable. Didn't suffer too much, but before getting to the park I hit the corner of a footpath and almost went to the ground, it was quite scary.
I struggle to wake up, that was and is the main problem, 4 weeks to xmas shut down when I plan to keep running but after good night sleeps and with light. 4 espresso don't make the trick.
super happy with my new running jacket btw (even if it now smells of dead cow)
and I managed to have a dry run, but let's not worry, it is saving the heavy rain right for when I'll take out the dogs tonight
now I am completely knackered, but rest for today, relaxed 10k and then London tomorrow (if it not rains for the 3rd consecutive week), and I'll probably try a 20 miles on Sunday (heavy rain forecasted woop woop)
sorry to read about a few bad news, hope everything gets sorted0 -

Wow, it is hot out today. You'd never think yesterday was Thanksgiving. Should have gotten up earlier to run but it has been so nice the last few days I thought it would be okay. When I got home and saw how red my face was it's a wonder passers-by didn't pull over and call an ambulance. I looked awful! My husband passed by in the car and I saw he looked a little alarmed and starting slowing down and pulling over, so I gave him a thumbs up and a big smile. I didn't realize why he looked at me so strangely until I got home and looked in the mirror.
@shanaber - With biking I always wear sunscreen because we are out so long. With running, 95% of the year I'm running in the dark, so no. But today when I got back and just read your question I thought, oh my gosh, I should have worn it!0 -

@ddmom0811 Running in the heat always make my husband look like he's had a coronary. I try not to look at myself. In my head I'm Shalane Flanagen, and don't want to ruin that.
It's 37°F windy and rainy here.
I wear sunscreen in the summer and a hat.

This holiday streak is going to be a mental challenge. One mile will replace my rest days. You know how hard just 1 mile is? Least it'll get me in the habit of using my treadmill.
I had to stop the TM today when our 4 month old kitten joined me on it at 6mph. Amazingly, she got off to the side before it threw her. So I put it on the slowest setting and let her walk on it. She's gonna be a runner. Look at all of you running with dogs, cats'll run too LOL!
