I'm the opposite, I eat lots of carbs...and as long as I stick to CICO, I have no issue with losing xo0

Only if you're gonna eat that way for the rest of your life.
Otherwise - temporary changes will get ya temporary results.3 -
Low carb can work for some people because they find that higher protein and fat intake is satisfying, so they can eat lower calories.
Low carb does not work for some people because they find that they don't get enough fiber to feel satisfied.
Overall it's about how many calories you eat compared to how many calories you burn. The method you choose to follow to achieve that is going to depend on personal preference and adherence.1 -

If you are comfortable with the idea of eating low carb, then go for it. There's even a low carb group here on MFP. Realize though, that you lose weight by eating fewer calories than you burn. Eating low carb is just one way of eating; and is independent of weight loss. You still need to reduce your calories to below your TDEE to lose weight. Cool...it seems though that eating low carb I eat less calories and when I make the right choices I am satisfied appetite wise0 -
CICO=Calories in Calories out
It means that as long as you are eating less calories than your body needs every day you will lose weight. You could eat only twinkies or only steaks and as long as you are under your daily energy expenditure you'll lose weight.0 -

I've lost weight & re-gained it back. THIS time I won't make any temporary changes to lose weight.
I'm not fat because I eat carbs. I'm fat because my portions are too big. CICO works for me.0 -
CICO = calories in vs. calories out.
Eat less than than you burn.0 -
Is there a formula to figure out your calorie need per day0

One thing I've learned along the way here is that what works for one person doesn't necessarily work for another. I mean that mostly in a sense of adherence and long term sustainabilty. The key to long term success is figuring out a way of eating that you can do essentially for the rest of your life.
For most people it makes sense to cut down carbs, especially the starchy and processed types. However I say that mainly because most people are eating way too many to begin with.
Low carb (what is meant by this varies a lot) seems to work from a weight loss perspective for many people, especially those with diabetes or metabolic syndrome, however there are some people who do much better with moderate carbs. Personally I prefer to keep my carbs moderate from an exercise performance perspective.
Basically, my advice is trial and error of different methods until you figure out what works. I ended up with IIFYM and IF but both of those aren't for everyone either. Whatever you choose will just be a method of practising CICO while hopefully keeping you happy, healthy, satiated and sane0 -
You can enter your stats in MFP - height, weight, activity level.
MFP figures out your calories before exercise. Then plug in I want to lose XX pounds per week. A higher weekly goal = a lower daily calorie goal. If you exercise, log it and eat a portion of those calories too. Only a portion because calorie burns are estimates. Start with 50% and adjust up or down depending upon how weight loss progresses.
A second method it to find your TDEE - maintenance. This includes exercise. Then take a "cut" off that number to lose weight. IE: 500 calories off to lose 1 pound a week.
Scoobys is a popular TDEE calculator.0 -

that is what tends to happen when people start out with low carb. And feeling satisfied happens because for a lot of people, protein and fats are satiating, and when eating low carb, you are naturally going to eat more protein and fats. But I'd caution you to still monitor your calorie intake, because what often happens is when cutting carbs, people end up replacing those calories with fats and proteins, and eating in the same surplus they were before.0 -
Awesome advice0

So what was dinner like?

I do LCHF and still count calories, I would for sure count calories with this WOE, I have around 30 lbs to go and mine are set at 1500 most times I'm too full and get more like 1300-1500 unless I have a drink or 21

Yup, that's great advice.
I personally plan my meals around what is most filling. Often it's lower carb (lean meat is very tasty and very filling) but other times it's high carb (I find starchy foods like pasta actually quite filling for a very long time). Overall my carbs end up around 45% most of the time, which is somewhat lower than the average American diet but not really "low carb".
But if it works for you and you're fine eating that way in the long term - by all means, it's a perfectly cromulent way to go about things, so long as you meet calorie and nutrition goals.0 -
Ya know I totally feel its individual.. for me it takes a little more work prepping and planning etc. I am satisfied though. For example today I had three strawberries a half cup of oatmeal with cinnamon. Lunch was 9 ounces of tri tip with 3 stalks of romain lettuce and dinner was fresh chicken wing soup like 8 drums and tofu with light veggies all boiled I am stuffed right now and I did no more than 1200 cals.....sweet0

Use the BMR calculator http://www.myfitnesspal.com/tools/bmr-calculator, then log your activities which gives you additional calories burnt. You need to eat 500 calories less per day than you burn to lose 1lb of fat per week0

Calorie restriction and an increase in activity works
Lower carb works for those with insulin sensitivity
I ended up fairly low carb because I eliminated sugar calories with no nutrition like doughnuts. And i added lots of veggies for nutrients
It just ended up in the 100 carb or so range
So.....
Whatever makes you feel full and eat less than you need wil work
I will eat candy bars before a long ride or run. But then it is fuel for an activity
Normal daily functions I roll moderate carb as a result of getting protein and fiber where they need to be
Good luck finding your happy place with food
You can break any diet plan
By eating too many calories
There is no magic diet or silver bullet

There is no way that as a man, 1200 calories is enough for you. Be aware that by eating at a very low calorie level, you are risking loss of lean muscle mass, and eventually hair loss and organ damage.0 -

This. I switched from 2lb/week loss to 1.5lb/week and I went from 1630cals/day to 1880cals/day. I was pretty hungry at 1630. And I'm 5'7", 259lbs, age 30.0 -

If the food choice suits your tastes then low carb is a great solution to getting into an sticking with a calorie deficit.
If it doesn't suit your tastes and you lean more towards carbs then it probably won't be a sustainable long term solution.
