How sad Deb. I'm sorry for your loss. You're right, that does put a lot in perspective...
I didn't take many walking steps yesterday, 4629 or 2 miles. But I snowshoed 1.15 miles to get a Christmas tree in the National Forest behind our cabin. Finding, cutting & dragging it out with my husband took 50 minutes and burned about 500 calories! Then I spent about 30 minutes unloading and stacking a fresh cord of wood.
Back on the road today. I'm craving my boring routines and some down time...

Kidneys are scary things. I have dealt with mine for 25 years hating me. You really do need to be nice to the organs you are given in this life. Fueling your body with food and drinking an appropriate amount of water is not just something some idiot in an office thought up to jerk your chain. I have had to drink bottled/filtered water since 1996. I may not drink tap water, I cannot drink from a fountain, hose, restaurant (unless double filtered and I have to ask them that). My kidneys cannot filter out what is in the water and I produced stones at an alarming rate. I do have to take medication for this to help me.

On the note that you need to be nice to your organs: I have lost two organs that is okay to lose, but no one needs to have major surgery.

    Great walking!
Another very low mileage day for me; drove home from OR straight to my husbands office holiday party.
The only good thing: these enforced rest days have greatly improved my plantars situation!

Well, either strip down or bundle up! It's 46 degrees this morning on the Russian River in Guerneville where I'm working.

So, here is the giggle of the day: I am combing my hair in the mirror and notice the crease/shadow in my arm and think 'what on earth is that'? I keep combing and looking at it. So, I move to the full length mirror and better light and put my hand behind my head and the bicep flexes...I just stare at it and put the other arm behind my head and make the other one do it to. Well, fan my brow! That's muscle definition!

Now back to your regular scheduled programming...

7766 steps yesterday, 3.5 miles. Thought I was sitting pretty for my 10k minimum but I screwed up the scheduling & my late evening dog walking partner was at a dance benefit instead. Sheesh! Today I go straight from work to my in-laws holiday party in Palo Alto (about 90 minutes south)... Must sneak out for a rainy walk through old town!
