    They are gorgeous!

Out of curiosity, why frozen instead of live food? Is it a cost thing, "humane" thing, or just easier to keep more on hand thing?

In all honesty, it was just a convenience thing for me to begin with, but I definitely feel it's more humane as well as safer for the snake. It's most definitely more cost efficient as well.

I actually spend my spring/summer/early fall going out finding them in the wild as well. I am counting down until Spring!

Nice. For some reason I was thinking they wouldn't eat food that wasn't live.

I don't have any snakes any more but had a variety of them when i was younger. I used to just walk around with my python draped over my shoulders and neck and it would freak everyone out. We had alligators, snakes, turtles (still have one of them). I think it is time i return to having snakes, they freak people out and i hate people so.......

For pets I see snakes as like... meh. Little interaction even though they are cool.

In the wild, I've been a bit too near some highly venomous snakes. Still think they are cool, but stay respectful of their ability. Same with sea snakes.

That's cool and glad to hear you respect them. Me and Fitgirl0123 have been finding , catching and releasing everything from ratsnakes to timber rattle snakes , cottonmouths ect. We are very careful and get more experienced every year but, we truly have a blast finding and photographing them. Maybe she will post some pics of the rattlers and such tomorrow.

As the others said, more humane, and waaay less dangerous to the snake. An adult rat can actually kill a snake, especially one of these silly ball pythons, and even though I love rats too (live ones), I wouldnt want to go through the hassle of dealing with them as well. Some people grow their own mice etc, especially those with many snakes. Also, in Finland it's illegal to feed live, exactly for these above mentioned reasons. Snakes who are used to eating only dead really don't mind, they "strangle" it anyway

I've messed with coppeheads and such when I was younger, and encountered one here a year or so back. Which I thought was strange, since in this area I rarely see any snakes at all. About a week after my close encounter (mountain biking and lifting the bike over a log) there was an article that several people that year had been bitten by canebrake rattlers in this area.

The largest venomous snake I've ever come across was a timber rattler, and way too close for comfort. We were climbing up some rock ledges, and the snake was at the top of one. Already coiled and within easy distance of my arm by the time I saw it. No place to go unless I wanted to make about a 10 foot drop to the next ledge, and I had gear on. I waited it out while contemplating how far out we were from the road and best "get to help" options. Great heart rate testing though!

When I was at Camp Pendleton rattlesnakes were freaking everywhere. In our building even. Some places out in the field it was hard not to come across them.

Yeah my ratsnake too, he's over 6ft long and fast and strong... I don't bother him any more than necessary  Mbk is like a puppy, so gentle and calm. I only handle them when cleaning the vivs though, not for fun.

Awww! I love snakes, I used to hike in the spring and look for them. I think I will take my girls out this year, they seem to like snakes too. We are going to get them one when they are older, after a couple cats die off maybe, lol (five cats, too many).

If you get a big enough snake it could solve the cat problem...

here is my little guy. we feed frozen. I think its more humane all the way around. and a friend of mine had his boa lose the end of her tail because of a squirrely mouse.
