    @runner_girl83 - love the shorts.

    @_nikkiwolf_ - what a view

@Amandajs232 - wow. I want to be there.

I was supposed to run yesterday but we had a winter storm. The roads were in terrible condition and it doesn't help I live in the country. The roads aren't wide enough when there is snow to avoid cars. The highway nearby is usually much better, they plow it really wide and there is a wide shoulder, it's usually pretty clear. I opted to wait an extra hoping they would be clearer out here. They weren't. There was another group going in another part of town so I decided to join up with them. Roads were a little better than here but not much. Running with the group helped. It was just below freezing so overall pretty pleasant temperature wise.

11.5 on snow covered roads takes me to 79 km for the month.

@michable @WhatMeRunning @Elise4270 Last summer when I was had such a negative experience the first time I broke 10k, @Stoshew71 recommended, among other things, electrolyte replacement. I tried NUUN and fell in love. The taste of all the ones I've tried (non-caffeine ones) has been very good. No aftertaste and in the heat of Denver (10% humidity) in the summer (read bitchin' hot) at noon (when I was doing my lunch run) I could keep going and not feel like I was going to collapse. They can be expensive, but as soon as I tried it and found out how well it worked for me, I went back and bought every flavor, (non-caffeinated). Definitely worth a try!

    1/12: Rest day
1/13: 4 miles treadmill (am), 7.1 miles with Wednesday crew (pm)

1/16: 7 miles with Saturday crew
    1/17: 10 miles
    1/18: 6 miles with "Joe-to-Go" crew
    1/19: Rest day/final finals day
1/20: 4 miles (am), no second run
1/21: No AM run, 7 miles with Thursday crew (pm)
    1/22: 14 miles
    1/23: SNOW DAY!
    1/24: 9 miles

1/29: XT: 60 mins stationary bike
1/30: 7 miles with the Saturday crew
1/31: 15 miles with Sunday Runday crew

Ran 1 mile to the meeting point, 10 easy miles with the group, then busted out the last 4 at sub-marathon pace: 7:42, 7:27, 7:42 and 7:40. The last 4 miles felt fast and strong and just plain amazing, despite the 11 preceeding ones being something of a slog. My goal marathon pace is anywhere between 7:55 and 8:05, and my goal HM pace is between 7:30 and 7:40, so this is a good sign that I'll be able to hit those paces in a few months come race days. A great way to end my first official training week and the month of January!

    exercise.png
Didn't quite hit my goal, but I'm not even mad. I played it safe by adjusting for a blizzard and running less when things were bothering me, so that when training started I wouldn't have issues. I'm glad I did that, even if that means I'm a measly 6.5 miles off target. I'm 200+ and that's what matters most.

    See you all for February!!

    Upcoming races:
    4/3: Caesar Rodney HM
    5/1: New Jersey Marathon
6/12: Race and Ride Cedar Point HM (maybe)

@Amandajs232 If I was on that treadmill looking at that view...I swear I would break thru the glass to be on the outside! Go a little slower, take it a little easier, and make the memories that @WhatMeRunning knows you'll treasure. So beautiful!!

@skippygirlsmom I'm right there with you! I'm working very hard to get out of my pity party mode. It's not easy. But I'm trying to remember that, for me, when this kind of thing happens, in the end I wind up being better, stronger, and healthier because of it. It gets better. I posted the lastest fml issue yesterday on my home page and @7lenny7 promised it would get better. He promised. And I am choosing to believe him. Lock arms with me and we'll get thru this. 7lenny7 said so!

@Stoshew71 thank for the link-I did make an account to hopefully get any future info and keep it in mind. It looks like the cost for entry for the HM doesn't change til June, so I have a while to decide. And the cutoff time is 4 hours, so even if I can't run it all I could finish.

Let me know if you do indeed sign up. We would have to meet.

    1/27 – 6.03 group run
1/28 – 9.43 warmup, speed work, cool down
    1/29 – scheduled rest day
    1/30 – 15.18 long run with hills
    1/31 – 14.01 easy with hills

    January total – 263.95

Goal - 51 to 62 miles per week, per training plan
expected January total - 245 to 251 miles
    mileage (target) for week ending:
    1/2 – 47.80 (46)
    1/9 – 52.73 (51)
    1/16 – 56.28 (56)
    1/23 – 62.19 (62)
    1/30 – 56.28 (56)

Today's notes – The training assignment today was 8 to 14 miles. I like to do the top end of the assignment on weekends, because that reduces the number of miles I need to run during the week when scheduling is harder. Looked at the thermometer, and it was 43° around 10 AM. So I put on shorts and a long sleeve tech shirt. Then I dithered around with my tax return till noon or so, by which time the temperature was up to 56°.

It was too warm for light gloves, and after about 7.7 miles it became apparent that a short sleeved tee shirt would have been a little more comfortable. That's pretty amazing for the last day of January, at the statistically coldest part of the year here. Other than the unseasonably good weather, the run was unremarkable. 14.01 miles in 1:52:34, for an average pace of 8:02 per mile, right around where I wanted it. Mile splits ranged from 7:45 to 8:17, decently steady for a route of mostly rolling hills.

This month's notes: The objective is really weekly, to finish close to the target training miles. Not making the target is bad, but going way over the target is also bad. For the five weeks ending in January, I was over target by a total of 4.28 miles, 3.53 of it in the first two weeks of the training program when I was learning how to control the weekly mileage to the target. For the month, I was 13.95 miles over my high end estimate, which accounted for 14 miles today. Looking back, I see I made an arithmetic error in my monthly estimate; I should have estimated 255 to 261 miles for January, which would have made the amount over the high end estimate consistent with how I overshot the weekly mileage targets.

I'll take another stab at predicting what I'll run for February. Hopefully I'll be better at managing the training to targets and come in closer to the estimate next month.

    Upcoming races:
March 12, 2016 Johnny's Runnin' of the Green 5 mile (Rochester, NY - need to register)
March 26, 2016 Spring Forward Distance Run 15K (Mendon, NY - need to register)
April 18, 2016 Boston Marathon (Hopkinton, MA)

What do you use for tracking your runs? When I've been away somewhere without data I've downloaded the maps for the area I'll be in for off line use in Google maps, often before travelling. The running Apps on my phone seem to work fine with that.

@whatang I use Nike+ and I don't think it works without data maybe it does. Will try and work out how to download the maps so the app recognises them,

WTG! Everyone, you are all so inspiring, and motivating to me. You have given great advice, feedback, laughs and I love the pics from your runs! Being out in nature is my favorite thing seeing these pics is nearly the same!

I clearly didn't reach my goal, December Christmas season set me back on running being stuck at our store, and then I tried to pick it up for January while I also tried to be more active with my Fitbit, which really messed me up. But I'm in a good place right now, I had weight loss through out the month, and held on to it, this hassn't happened in many months, and I'm back to logging every meal every day, I'm mentally and emotionally back on track with this health and fitness journey I'm on and you all helped with that thank you! AND Spring is on its way! So I anticipate a good month in February!

    @Stoshew71 will do!

OK, it was in the upper 60s and sunny. So we all went hiking today with my hubby's daughters and the dogs. So I decided to make it a run/walk trail run while they were walking with us. There was definitely a lot of walking as some of the hills were steep, there were lots of roots, and while it was dry, there were lots of leaves making it slippery. But I'm counting it! It's the last day of the month and I'm worn out so mix of running and walking or what not, it counts :).

Congrats everyone on meeting their goals.

    1/2 6.5 miles
    1/3 3.5 miles
    1/7 4.0 miles
    1/10 4.0 miles
    1/13 5.0 miles
    1/14 3.0 miles
    1/15 2.0 miles
    1/18 6.0 miles
    1/22 5.0 miles
    1/24 3.0 miles
    1/27 7.0 miles
    1/30 3.0 miles
    1/31 3.0 miles run/walk.

Total of 55miles of 55 goal.
