@_nikkiwolf_ Misery Mountain 200 meter Elevation Gain = Climb up the North Face Service road over 1.5 km so a solid climb. Like all hills some steep portions and some very gentle portions.
The road is not maintained but there are enough people using the road to keep it packed down.

The Hill was originally named/cursed by the Railroad Engineers as it was in the perfect place to block the best place for a crossing of the local river and climbing the Tracks out of the River Valley.

Just Registered for my second Winter HM. The Hypothermic Half Marathon in Edmonton. Feb 21, 2016 10:00 AM start, commonly called the Sleepy Head Start.

I've been running for about 12 solid months now. I've noticed instead of my shirts getting looser in the shoulders/armpit area, they are getting tight and uncomfortable. I noticed my shorts are getting tight in the thighs, finally- I'm sure that's muscle.

What's up with the armpits? My weight hasn't changed in 2years. My pants fit fine in the waist. So I don't think it's fat... But could be. I feel like Lou Frigino.. Anyone else notice something similar? I only run, no XT. Work is somewhat physical-always carrying 30-40 lb baskets and manhandling ~100, 5-8lb samples in metal cylinders.

@Elise4270 Could your clothes be shrinking? Do they stay tight, or do they stretch out after a couple wears? That's my only maybe solution! Very strange problem to have!

I don't think they are shrinking. That was my husband's solution. They don't stretch out. Maybe I've just become more sensitive to the seams. It's very annoying. I'll just buy bigger shirts, I need a reason to buy more run gear anyhow

@Becky_44 Sorry to hear about the nerve pain. I was wondering today if there was any other here runners with it. Mine is along the sciatic and pudendal nerve.

It does make it hard to get out there. Hope it gets better soon.

Oh man its the worst I think! So much "easier" to run through most any other pain. This one came up after I injured my foot when I jammed it into the basketball hoop not watching where I was going. I have struggled a lot with sciatic pain, I have learned some stretches for my Periformis that helps a lot, but still I cant over do things or it flares up too. I have wondered if its not all connected, its all on the same side and the foot injury really wasn't that bad just the ongoing nerve pain.

I'm not sure what exactly is wrong with me. Doc just says my left pelvic/hip area "is a mess". Could be pregnancies, post surgical damage or genetics. I guess the "why" isn't important, as long as I find a solution.
I went 3.5 years before I got a real diagnosis and on track for treatment. PT, heat, muscle relaxers and steroid injections help. I'm slated for surgeries at some point.

To all - thanks for the congratulations. They really do mean a lot to me.

Especially to @MobyCarp and @WhatMeRunning: I really do appreciate your thoughtful experiences. Maybe I am cutting myself too short (in distance? ) and I should re-think the HM. When I first started running, a 5K seemed impossible for me, the way a full marathon STILL seems deeply improbable. But I attempted and completed a half, and I'm none the worse for wear - in fact, I'm planning to head out in a few minutes to put in a couple or three miles for the day.

I met a Marathon Maniac at the race yesterday - he's 62 (?), a full-time general contractor in Chicago, Illinois. He came down to Warner Robins BECAUSE the race was sited at the Museum of Aviation, and he'd done a model car in his youth based on one of the planes we have on display, and decided that he wanted to run the race just so he had the excuse to come see the plane he'd used as his inspiration those years ago. But he was getting on a plane yesterday afternoon to head to Phoenix to run a marathon there TODAY. Apparently he hasn't gotten his Titanium level in MM (30 marathons in 30 states in less than a year!). He still has goals, and said that I needed to stop thinking that a marathon was beyond me. "Nothing is beyond the imagination - if you can think it, you can do it!," he said.

I'm learning so much from all of you, and I love my online running family. You are all very special to me, and important to my development. Thank you.

It can be frustrating not knowing, sorry you've had to struggle with this. Like you, answers and diagnosis just isn't as important as being able to do something to make it better.Course a diagnosis outlines what to do usually... I never thought of pregnancies, being 18 and starting with a 98 lb frame carrying a big baby, and having horrible restless legs throughout and then awful back labor, could be a precursor for a lifetime of problems I suspect now thinking about it... It sure has been fascinating though, trying to learn what I can about the nervous system.... I do hope that you can find some great relief, be nice without surgery but if need be I wish for the best possible outcome.

Made it through a few 6 milers the past 2 days as my body is starting to return to normal. I can feel a bit more soreness than usual, and I'm being careful with my pacing for this week, but I'll slowly ramp up to 55 miles this coming week (without any faster runs) before jumping into the Pfitz 18/70 plan on the 25th.

    1/3 - 10 miles (5 speedwork, 5 slow)
    1/4 - 7 miles
    1/6 - 3 miles (@ MP)
    1/9 - 2 miles (pre race tuneup)
    1/10 - 26.5 miles (Disney marathon in 3:29:08)
    1/14 - 3 miles
    1/16 - 6 miles
    1/17 - 6 miles

    Total: 63.5 miles
    Goal: 180 miles
    Remaining: 116.5 miles

I had a feeling you might already be hooked @9voice9. Just remember if running a marathon seems crazy then you're already half crazy.

Do recover though. I hope if you ran today that it went well. These distances can take a toll on the body especially when your body has not adapted yet to doing that sort of distance with any regularity. Proper recovery is always important, in both training and racing. Tapering and recovery are the hardest mental hurdles to overcome in my opinion because of how long they take.

@9voice9 - congrats on finishing the HM and getting a PR!! Awesome!!
@juliet3455 - as one who could easily be left behind, Thanks!
@Elise4270 - my trainer told me he would get me to a size 2 and then build me back up to a size 4...lol... he was right. Pants I bought before now don't fit over my butt and the thighs are tight, waist is fine. I am good with it though! Loving being muscular and having some curves, such as they are and it is a good excuse, but then I never need one to but more running gear :)
Got a slow run in today but I felt good about it. Went out initially for 5-6 and was happy to get in 7.5. Not too much pain other than a bit in my knee if I stepped the wrong way. I did spend some time icing when I got home. Biggest issue I had was that it got way too warm today! Especially for January! Sorry everyone dealing with the extreme cold!
