So I live in NY and I want to know how many calories are actually in a slice of NY style pizza. There are many different entries on MFP that range from 200 -370. Does anyone know for sure?

It depends. Size pizza, size slice, toppings... Kind of like how tall is the tree in my backyard? You can't answer without more info...0

Absolutely no way of telling unless the restaurant posts this info.
Dab the top with a paper towel to absorb some of the oil and cut down on calories.
Ask for no sauce to cut down on sugar.
Ask for no cheese to cut down on fat.
Don't eat the edges to cut down on carbs.

Look up a recipe for a similar style pizza and calculate calories based on ingredients.0

I go by the calories in a slice of Costco pepperoni pizza. NY style is similar in that the slices are huge. I think NY style is a big thinner, but it's better to overestimate in my opinion.0

Seriously, for things like this, I just eat the pizza and enjoy it. It's one night (unless this is your nightly dinner, but that's for another topic). For foods that I plan to continue enjoying but don't know the calories for, I use the tried and true SWAG method, learned from a boss from a former job when he wasn't sure how much product to order: Scientific Wild *kitten* Guessing. Find what seems the closest match, log it, and move on.
Been doing this for 4-5 years now, hasn't ruined any of my progress - I've lost the fat & inches, reached my goals and kept it off, while still enjoying the pizza.0 -
I use the Sbarro calories as an estimate since they are close In shape and size to ny slices.
I used to grossly overestimate (like 600 a slice). Then when we ordered delivery one day I weighed a slice and it was only 4.5oz so I figured even if it was 4.5oz of pure cheese it would be max 450 calories so that made me feel comfortable using the Sbarro estimate for a cheese slice which is 430.
Also here is a good article where they went to a bunch of ny pizzerias and analyzed calories. There was a huge variation in calories but there was also a huge variation in ounces of the slice. If you are getting pizza delivered I would weigh a slice and see how it compares to the slices listed in article below and use something comparable.

Why bother getting pizza? All that is left is part of the crust and maybe a few veggies and a little meat. At that point you might as well eat a serving of meat with a side of veggies and a piece of bread.
OP...look up your pizza place on the net and see if they list the nutrition facts.0 -

I consider pizza a delicious landmine that is best avoided. While I can't tell the calories, I do know it's going to be really high.
For me it's not worth the guessing. I'd rather eat something else that i know the calorie count on.
Maybe when I get closer to goal weight I'll be able to enjoy it again. But for now it's better to avoid.0 -
I'm from NYC and depending on the type of slice it is, I estimate it anywhere from 500 to 800 calories. I find that it's better to overestimate than underestimate.0

I always find it odd when Americans talk about pizza slices. The numbers mentioned are so massive per slice.

So when people say they only had 1-2 slices, it sound like they are restricting them selves but compared to me they are eating half or a whole pizza?

Domino's/Pizza Hut is like 300-400 per slice depending on toppings, if the stuff you're eating is bigger or cheesier than it probably has more.0

a pizza here, depending on who makes it and size (S,M,L) can range from 8" round to 16" or more
im not much of a pizza person so i dont worry about how much is in it on the rare occasions i do eat it LOL0 -

I understand all that stuff and I CHOOSE to avoid pizza because it's a food that is both harder to calculate calories than other foods, AND was a food I used to gorge myself on.
If you don't agree then fine go eat all the pizza you desire.... I'm not telling you or anyone else to not eat pizza.0 -

I said 500 to 800 per slice depending on the type of pizza because some slices have a lot more added to them than others. For example, my go to slice is usually a Margherita slice which has fresh whole milk mozzarella. Whole milk mozzarella is very calorie dense, so I estimate that at 500 to be safe when it's probably closer to 400. An 800 calorie slice would be on the rare occasion I indulge in a chicken parm or lasagna slice; NY mom and pop pizza places get very creative with their slices.
Again, it's better to overestimate calories than underestimate especially since, as a whole, people are notorious at underestimating the calories they consume.0 -
I'm in NYC too. I never assume any less than 350-and will log 400 sometimes.0

I have an entry I used for one of the pizza places down by West 4th St. I just call it "Big *kitten* NYC Pizza". Think I put 450 for it.0

2 slices from a medium to large pizza usually covers my dinner plates.In the United States, the small size is 10 inches and the medium size is 12 inches. The large size varies. In some restaurants, the large size is 14 inches. In others it is 16 inches. If the large
size is 16 inches, the 14 inch will be the medium.
The small size is still the 10 inch. Of course there are exceptions to this rule. Some smaller sized types come in at 4 inches or 8 inches. The usual homemade pizza size is 12 inches. Other countries might use different measurements, and some pizza makers serve pizza in square shapes. This means the measurement will be different.0
