@skippygirlsmom - I keep going back to your shoe picture. Man I am in love with those shoes, love the design and color! Just wish I didn't have so many issues with Brooks! Also love the treadmill video! Hilarious!!
@4leighbee - Hahaha - so glad you managed to keep breathing and on the treadmill! :laugh:
@ccnagain and @9voice9 - which wireless headphones are you using? I must have missed that post.
@Stoshew71 - @MorningGhost14 was having some personal issues and going through a divorce and I suspect that is why he dropped off again. I was happy to see him back so I hope he resurfaces when things get better for him.
@CivicSista - welcome to our group of running crazies!
@louubelle16 - Congratulaions!! That is an awesome PR!!
@Elise4270 - congrats on beating the DHs time, even if it wasn't a PR. So if he thinks his time was pretty darn good that must mean he think your time was awesome, right. He will come to that realization soon but I think pizza therapy is the right approach! Good luck tomorrow on your HM and enjoy that retail therapy at the expo - you might try taking the hat back to see if they will exchange it even without the receipt.
Good Luck to everyone racing tomorrow!!0 -

Wow, a really lousy run. Cool and sunny, so great weather. But the treadmill Hill program workouts have turned my legs to lead! Meeting my nephew tomorrow to run the St. Patrick's Day 5K in Southie, and will hope for a better performance!

Grats to @louubelle16, @Elise4270, and the other folks who ran races today - especially for those PR folks (and close to PR).
Race Report: Cherry Blossom Road Race - 5K. 31:31 (don't yet have chip time posted). I believe it was pretty close to 5K distance (based on Garmin). This is my 4th best 5K time, at 10:09/mile.
* Okay - who's idea was it to START the friggin' thing on an incline? Not really a hill - ~3.5%, for about a 1/3 of a mile, but really? Start uphill? Sure, that means you end the out-and-back downhill, but still.
* Ran the first .85 mile or so non-stop (non-walk), so pretty happy with that.
* 10 or so drops down into walking (one of them for the water "stop"), so okay with that. Getting better.
* Kept enough reserve to run the last tenth to the finish close to all-out - I know, there's some contention about that, whether to "burn it on the course" or "leave it for the end". But I like doing it.
* A little cool and humid (rainy past couple days), so I kept on my long-sleeve compression undershirt - worried a little about over-heating, but didn't really notice it out on the course.
Overall, one of my better runs. At least for this year.0 -

4 tough miles this morning. Saturday runs are hard after my Friday long run. I came down with a sore throat yesterday so I dragged around until 10am to run. Was still 40 degrees and the cold wind was taking my breath away. I took several walk breaks to blow my nose. 44.3 miles done of my 52 miles March goal.
@Stoshew71 Great pics! Now I'm wanting to trail run. I've been meaning to do that for awhile I'm off work next week so I think it's my chance to mix up my scenery.0 -
@Orphia Congratulations on your second-best time. Thank you for volunteering. That is very important.
@runner_girl83 Nice scene at the beach. I used to live 15 minutes away from the beach down the Jersey Shore. Now the closest beach is 6 hours away. I miss the beach.
@louubelle16 Congratulations on your PR. Awesome job.
@kristinegift Take care of those lower legs/ankle The distance will come back and you will be stronger than ever. I had my fair share of strange soreness and prolonged pain in my shins/ankles/hips/glutes and had to slow down a bit.
@4leighbee Great job on your longest run since coming back.
@Elise4270 Congrats on beating DH and good luck at your half tomorrow.
@annekka Sorry things are not going well for you that you are contemplating dropping your race.
@MobyCarp Sweet pacing and nice view.
@ariceroni Good luck tomorrow.
@JohnONE29 I ran the Knoxville Half last year. Nice hill there. Good luck!
@greenolivetree I want to run more too, but the trail system on Monte Sano can get complicated and I would hate getting lost. So I will go only with a group I think I can keep up with. There is a beginner trail group that meet on Sunday mornings called No Runner Left Behind, but Sundays are hard for me and I use it as my rest day.

@Stoshew71 thanks! But I just found out he did beat me by 18 seconds.
My Garmin power cycled at the finish and I must have lost a bit of data.
He's happy again.
My OT 24:44, his 24:26
Still happy, 5+ minute PR

@louubelle16 excellent time! Congrats!
@Elise4270 nice job on the PR
@brian_gunther keep it up, you're doing great.
It was my birthday today. Started with 5 miles this morning, including pacing my wife to her first sub-26 minute 5k at Parkrun. So proud of her, even if there was some melodramatic "I'm dying!" after the finish Then into town to celebrate with lunch, and obviously I had to get some new running shoes since we were near the shop...
59/75 miles.0 -
@whatang Happy birthday!
@Stoshew71 I have trails right in town where I couldn't possibly get lost The change of terrain is fun though.0 -
Hi all, I have fallen behind on the thread again.
Well done @Elise4270 for a fast 5km (even if it was short, it was definitely speedy! And good luck with your HM!
Thanks @Stoshew71 posting photos of beautiful scenery,
and @AdrianChr92 for funny weather memes! That made me laugh! I am having the opposite situation here, where it is now officially Autumn, however weather says "nope - still summer!". Loving your experiments with trying to run at a lower HR, and increase your cadence. I did Phil Maffetone's MAF method for a few months to develop my aerobic base, and did find it difficult. The HR I was not supposed to exceed was 129. Pretty low, I know. I found I had to walk on most inclines to keep it under 129. Also, the longer you run for, the more your HR drifts up, so you need to go even slower at the end of your run. I did end up adapting the 129 to make it more like the Av HR for the whole run, which meant I could go up and down around 129, as long as I ended up with an AV around 129. So I didn't do it perfectly, but found that the heat here just made it too hard to keep to that low HR. And I did find out that true easy running is easier on the body, so you can run more, with less recovery time, and it allows you to increase distance with a much lower risk of injury. So I was pretty happy with the experiment, and I think I have just recently noticed my HR now lower at the same pace, which is the whole goal of the MAF method.
Another hot and humid one for my long run today. 24.22 km @7:48 min/km; av HR 129, max HR 141. Refilled my water bottles a couple of times, and ate snakes lollies at 12 km and 16 km to keep me going. Hugged the shade on the way back, and really didn't look forward to the last 4 kms, because it is a consistent incline all the way home. Sigh. Not especially steep, but consistent, and tiring when you've already done 20 km.
Anyway, another long run down in the books. That's the end of Week 12 (of 27) of my marathon training plan.

@ddmom0811 - We had hotels in Miami, Marathon (each way), and got a house in Key West for 2 nights in the middle of town. Luckily we had a support vehicle for the trip, so we had plenty of changes of clothing for night activities. I did a Pittsburgh-DC trip with just a backpack last year, but I really wouldn't want to have to drag behind full camping stuff, as doing 240 miles with 20lb of stuff strapped to your bike isn't my idea of fun. Given that I found spots that could comfortably house the 4 of us, even during prime spring break season, our housing costs for the 5 nights came out to about $300/person, which was well worth it for the trip.0 -
Thanks @Orphia I was going really strong at the beginning of the month and thought I was going to double my goal but then I returned to work after having a few months off and have slowed down with the distances that I was walking. I'll definitely be gone over the 50km goal that I set which is great. I think of I put my mind to it I should be able to hit the 50km sometime this week :-D
But look at you 20.5 km over already, do you think you can make it to 100km now?0 -

Yep @freakymistkd you can do it!
And I reckon I might make it to 100 km. I hope so, that would be brilliant, after the run of injuries I've had the past few months!0 -
