What to call a diet that is just based on reduced calories?

I just say I count calories. Then if it goes more in depth, talk about flexible dieting.0

Not everyone counting calories is living in or even from the US. Also, not everyone in the US eats the SAD. I know my family don't. I never really did and I certainly don't now that I live on the other side of the atlantic. I don't understand the negativity some people have towards calorie counting.
I personally just say I count calories, or follow the ''eat less, move more''. People close to me know more of the details. I really don't think these things need labels. When more clarification is needed all you have to do is ask...which is exactly what the OP is doing0 -

Since there really isn't a standard definition of what SAD represents, I don't see how this would be a helpful name... especially for those in other parts of the world who are just eating the foods they normally eat at a modest deficit...0 -

Why do you assume that anyone who doesn't feel the need to label their diet is eating the SAD? Does it make you feel better?0 -

I feel like CCSAD should be what happens when you go to a kids' play center and the robotic mouse has stopped working.1 -
I think what I am getting is that this "Eat less, move more" diet can be seen as a way of eating?0

I still like cicophant, no acronym, just pun.1 -
When someone asks how I did it I say "Nothing special, I ate what I've always eaten only less". Then I wink and add "I will probably always have to watch what I eat because food tastes so good."0

Calorie Restriction?
"Counting" isn't adequate as you could count 1200 or 4200 cals.0 -
-
Call it eating normally0

Control does not imply restriction. You can have controlled overfeeding or a hypocaloric diet that is tightly controlled.0 -

That is true. And you can restrict without depriving yourself.
This ain't easy0 -
it is called eating less..

Just saw an amusing name for counting calories: "arithmetic dieting"

LOL I like it. Interesting abstract too.0

I hate that there are so many "diets" with "names". When your diet causes you to lose weight, no matter what you call it, it's because of a calorie deficit. So I just call it all a calorie deficit.0

Oh, that seems to be the point even without a name, or what's all this about the "SAD Diet" and the like.0

If I'm eating less than my maintenance calories, then I'm on a "diet".0
-
Yep. I don't mind the term diet.0

That's a usage issue. Diet has multiple usages which can be understood from context. I don't mind the term diet either.0 -

I don't mind the verb form of diet either - "I'm on a diet".
Doesn't have negative connotations to me.0 -
