I think I might do an experiment this weekend. I have a 6 mile run Long Run planned for Sat, but I'm thinking, what I might do is do the run like planned, but make my goal a run of 1:30:00. This will mean a longer distance, but it will also give me the chance to see how I do on a longer run. Current longest duration run was 1:14:24 and I went 7 miles, so I think this should be doable, with proper pacing of course.0

@_nikkiwolf_ - lol - yes I think we might be a little crazy. But it is so hot here in Florida after work. In December/Jan I did do a few runs after work and that was great! Sleeping in til 5:30am!WhatMeRunning wrote: »@ddmom0811 - Hey running twin! You sure get ready and out the door quickly! My alarm is set for 4:00. I had a little trouble getting out of bed this morning, getting downstairs around 4:08. It always takes me about 20-30 minutes to get ready and out the door. Wish I could do that faster because on tomorrow's 8 miler I will have to get up at 3:15!!
I refuse to set my alarm before 4am! Actually before 4:07am! When I was trying to figure out how to get my long runs in last year, I contemplated getting up earlier but I just couldn't do it.
I have everything laid out for my run and it's just a matter of pop in contacts, throw on clothes, turn on my 3 lights, and not let myself get distracted. Sometimes I am half asleep as I head out the door. I always walk the first 1/3 mile for a warmup and so I usually feel pretty excited to start running by that point. Then when I get back I have a crazy routine - about 55 minutes to get completely ready and out the door. Clothes for the day are also picked the night before and I make a big shake that I drink for breakfast while getting ready. I don't bring the shake in the shower.0 -
4/1: 1.35 Miles (Walk during lunch)
4/4: 1.35 Miles (Walk during lunch)
4/5: 3.1 Miles (Run)
4/6: 1.15 (Walk during lunch)
4/7: 1.17 (Walk during lunch before the rain; expecting to go for a run tonight if it stops raining)
4/8: 4.1 Miles (Run)
4/11: .62 Miles (walk during lunch.....so cold!); 1 Mile run during Dryland training
Storms blowing through the area today. If they go away I will be doing 4 + miles this evening. Fingers crossed!0 -

I'm glad you shared your routine. I try AM runs once in a while. I couldn't figure out how to have enough time to wake up and get out at a decent time, I do have to be at work at 6 though. The walk may be the key to helping me do a few AM runs. I always had coffee and sat on the front porch waiting to wake up. I'd run a bit, then need a bathroom visit.0 -
For me it's making sure I do the bathroom visit that keeps me from getting right out the door. And some days I just have to go run anyways and hope for the best! Sometimes that's a losing gamble.0
-
@whatmerunning I'm with you on the bathroom visit.
I set the alarm now for 5:30, out by 5:45 run about an hour, come home get the doggie and walk her for about 15 mins, when back home in the shower and out the door by 7:45 to take Skip to school. I used to start work between 7 and 7:15 (school started earlier then and Skip took the bus) my boss said he knew my runs were getting longer when I started coming in at 7:30 and then finally at 8:00. Now my boss is in El Paso so I'm here when I get here. If and when I get back to longer runs I'll get up around 5:00 and go out the door by 5:15. I think if you check my strava you'll see I start running in my driveway and sometimes from my front porch LOL
I'll have to tell Skip she's not so weird sleeping in her running stuff. Unless she gets the mind to wear her shoes, then it'll be a no.
@greenolivetree I've learned the hard way with ITB that pain one day and fine the next usually means I should take an extra day. I figured 1 day is better than 2 weeks off.1 -

Speaking of which, I got a pair new running shoes! My Saucony Guides have 600km on them now, so I decided to start rotating them out and treat myself to an early birthday present in form of a new pair. For the first time in a while, I actually went to a running speciality store to buy new shoes. Most expensive pair of shoes I ever bought (or ever will buy, I think - I do have a bit of money set aside for running stuff each month, but paying so much for a pair of shoes still hurt).
I knew a running store in Switzerland would be more expensive than buying them online in France, but holy cow! The woman in the shop really took her time showing and explaining different shoes to me, and I was impressed that she immediately knew what drop my favourite shoes had when I just mentioned their names. I would have felt really guilty about trying on shoes and keeping her busy for more than half an hour and then buying the shoes online, so when I found a pair I really liked I kinda had to buy them there.
Since I've never had any running injuries or shoe troubles, I think I'll return to my old approch of "order 4-8mm drop shoes online when they are on sale, and keep them unless they aren't comfortable"...
But y'all probably don't care about the details, you just want to see the new shoes, right?
Here they are, a pair of On Cloudflyers:

@skippygirlsmom Haha thx! I'm excited! @_nikkiwolf_ Nice shoes! I wear Saucony Kinvaras for most of my road running. 4mm drop.0
-
@_nikkiwolf_ love them. I've been reading quite a bit about the On Cloud shoes, all good stuff. Love the meme, of course all new shoes deserve to be treated to at least a pillow0

I finally managed to get another run in. Have been reading the thread whenever possible, but just haven't been making it out to actually run much. Did 4.3 today, which puts me at a total of 14 miles for the month. Pretty poor mileage for me. I've just been very stressed out lately and haven't had the motivation to really get out there. Plus, other obligations have been getting in the way of my weekday lunch runs frequently.
My husband left for Alaska again yesterday (I used my lunch hour to take him to the airport, since, the last time he drove himself, my truck broke down, and i had to get someone to take me to the airport and find his). This will be his last trip up there, due to the ongoing oil downturn. He's on the hunt for a new job, and I'm hoping something comes through soon. He does have a job with his current company waiting for him at home, but it's not what he wants to do and the pay is not nearly as good.
Still hoping the meloxicam starts to do some good (reduce swelling/irritation in my ankle joint). It's been a week now and I'm not seeing any improvement to speak of. It may actually be worse... Dr said if it doesn't seem to be helping after another week that we will move on to the next treatment option.
Really hoping I can get back in the groove this week and start logging some solid mileage...0 -

@MNLittleFinn I just did something like that on Saturday as my last Long Run before the Taper Crazies.
I had a goal of Minimum/Maximum Distance related to Min/Max Time. 14-18 km in 1:30 - 1:45.
It was a way to get a long distance run and long time without having a " I must " attitude which usually gets me in trouble by over doing it on time or distance (pace).MNLittleFinn wrote: »I think I might do an experiment this weekend. @ddmom0811 If I tried to do a run that early in the morning I would probably miss some all important pre-run routine that would get me in trouble as I would definitely be half asleep as I head out the door. I don't have to deal with the heat so I understand why you have to getup and go so early. We have the other problem where in the winter we wait until 12:00 - 2:00pm when it is a little warmer.I contemplated getting up earlier but I just couldn't do it.

I just noticed they have added a Like and Awesome button to the threads right beside the Quote/Flag button.4 -
@juliet3455 That's kind for my plan. I want to do a longer run than I have been doing, but normally I go too fast. I figure if I put a 1:25-1:35 time on it, and go for minimum 6-7 miles, I'll have to make myself pace better so I can reach the time limit I want and not worry about the miles so much as keeping a good pace for the whole time.0

Hmmm....just noticed a post can't be both "liked" and "awesome" at the same time!4

well, that's not Awesome, and I don't Like that.4 -
The weekend weather forecast for Sat morning is really tempting me to do something not good. It's supposed to be partly cloudy and in the mid 40s-50s when I normally run.....Now I'm tempted to just start out on the 13.1 mile route I have and see how far I can get, but keep it slow and cap the run at a reasonable time limit....Mind you, I'm never more than 3-4 miles from home at any point on the run.....Nice weather brings out all kinds of interesting ideas for me. This would be a one off, to enjoy the first real nice Saturday.0

@MNLittleFinn I think going the 1:30, taking it nice and slow, is a smarter choice. That's plenty of time out in the warmer temps! Don't let the warmer weather tempt you into making "too much too soon" kinds of choices!2

I'm liking the Like button. What will we do with all the time we save?!1

Yeah, I know I'm probably not going to do the whole thing. I just needed other people to help remind me not too....I'm not good at listening to myself, but I can listen to others very well.0 -

4/12 2.93 miles
Today was intervals and it wasn't as bad as I thought it might have been. I hit a big PR on deadlifts last night and was super excited until I realized how my legs were feeling this morning. It wasn't until I tried walking up the stairs to my apartment after my run that my legs really started to get angry with me. I need to make sure I do deadlifts on Sundays so that I am not doing them before an interval run.

Running Thoughts:
Does negative splits count if you start uphill and go very slowly, then speed up a little each km as you then go downhill? No, I didn't think so either.
Thread Thoughts:
Wondering what the difference between like and awesome is. I am going to like funny stuff and awesome great runs.

My husband will think I'm off my nut if I start sleeping in my running clothes! But it may get me up and out. I'd hate to "dirty" good running clothes without having had run in them.2

Mine already thinks I'm off my nut. I wouldn't be comfortable sleeping in sports bra and the rest. Too hot. The like and awesome button are ...well ... Awesome and I like them. Don't feel pressured to like everyone's posts! Lol.1 -
Sooo.... I totally skipped my run, yesterday! I've never done that before! (No, seriously, I've only been running since July, and I'd NEVER skipped a scheduled run until yesterday). It was a really rough day at school (I'm a teacher) and I was just done. I'm thinking I might run on the treadmill tonight. Usually Tuesday is a rest day for me, and I won't end up doing the full 4 miles I had scheduled, but even if I do two... at least it's somehing. I have speed work scheduled for tomorrow, and I'm looking forward to it.
