Cold and Tired.

I'm cold and tired. It's almost 75° in my house and I'm under a blanket almost passing out. It's 3pm.

I started losing weight last May. I did really well until December and I lost it for a few months (still logged, but I didn't weigh food and stopped working out). I just started back up at the beginning of April and since then I have been freezing and super tired.

I am burning calories and not eating many of them back, but that's how I did it before my winter slump. Im worried about upping my calories, I dont want to lose my momentum.

I also just had an expensive medical emergency in the household and really don't want to have to pay for a doctor's appointment.

Any ideas on what it is, or anything to try?

Age: 25
Height: 5'5"
Starting weight (5.22.15): 210
Current weight: 168

I fall asleep (on the couch) between 10pm-12am and wake up between 7am-9am.
My average sleep time is 7 hours.

My diary is also open. Any ideas are greatly appreciated!

Do you take a daily multivitamin?
Often when on a low calorie diet, we can't get enough nutrition.
A multi will contain iron, B vitamins, niacin, magnesium, and folic acid.
Do not choose gummies (they do not generally contain minerals).

I do not take a multivitamin. But I certainly could start.

    Typically between 1450 - 1600.

Hmmmm, you might want to have your blood tested, you could be anemic or not getting enough nutrients. I suffered from the exact same thing, and it sounds familiar......

But without testing, it is all speculation. You may want to increase you daily calorie intake, and / or watch your nutrients.

    RBC ??

You are doing great going from 210 to 168. Don't pass out. Health comes first, ideal weight comes distant second.

Yeah. I'll make an appointment. I'm just tight on cash this month.

I notice this happens to me after intense and lengthy workouts. In fact, I ran a marathon last year and was shivering under the covers for a few hours afterwards.

I agree with the above posters on depleted nutrients and something to look into a bit deeper if it happens often.

Physicians widow here. As cold as you get this could be hypothyroidism. I strongly suggest you see a doctor. The first thing I would do is have a thyroid test.

I'd give it a little bit more time, and maybe consider upping your calories close to maintenance for a while to see if more cals help you feel better.
If not, then you should discuss this with your doctor when you can.

Talk to your dr. It could a hormonal problem (hypothyroidism for example) or it could be a vitamin deficiency, or just being too tired.

    Thank you everyone.

I made a doctor's appointment, but it's 3 weeks out. In the mean time I'm picking up a multi vitamin and eating back my exercise calories better.

Look for a vitamin that has the iron and iodine (helps thyroid function).
Some of those chewables and gummies do not include this. Take the pill form.
Even the walmart equate women's brand will do. No need to spend money on internet stuff.

Yes ma'am. I will make sure the one I pick out has those supplements in them. I'm walking to the store later today.

I would most definitely get tested for hypothyroidism. I have it and get VERY tired and cold when my meds need to be upped. Ask your Dr for a TSH, T3 and T4 blood test. And even if you fall within the normal range, that doesn't mean those results are NORMAL or ADEQUATE for you . You can ask to be put on 25mg Synthroid (thyroid drug) to try and treat the symptoms.

This is what I thought of as well, get your thyroid tested.

Just looking back at your diary, I noticed that all you ate yesterday were bacon, waffles, taquitos, ranch, chocolate, and soda. Might I suggest eating more nutritious and nutrient dense food. While you can still lose weight (as long as you're under your calories), this type of diet really isn't doing you any favors. While a multivitamin will certainly help you to get your vitamins and minerals in, it shouldn't be used to replace a well rounded diet.

How long has this been going on, and do you have any other symptoms? Any chance you're simply sick? If you have a fever, you're going to feel cold and tired.

Something else you may want to check is your blood pressure. I have chronic low blood pressure and those are 2 of the first signs usually that my bp is dipping. Most of my attacks of low bp before I got heavy were caused by physical stress and if you're not eating enough nutrients, that can cause blood pressure to drop.
If you have a local pharmacy that has one of those free bp testers, try it out and ask the pharmacist if it's low just to rule it out.

You have a good point. Yesterday was a bit different than normal (boyfriends birthday, he wanted those things for food, plus the first soda in forever just for the caffeine!). But I know that I certainly don't hit my macros very well. It's just something that I haven't taken the care to do. I will start being more observant.

It's been happening more intensely in the last month, since I started restricting calories. But, I certainly have had problems for months, including when I wasn't restricting nearly enough.

I don't feel sick besides those 2 symptoms. My allergies are nasty right now, so if I don't take my allergy Medicine I'm a sneezy mess. But when I'm out and moving I don't feel weak or tired. I walked 7 miles today and felt just fine before, during and after.

I've been noticing my fitbit is showing my sleep to be less. Looks like between 5-7 hours, which is not common. I'm wondering if the sunrise being earlier is causing me to wake up too eary.

That's a great idea! I will go to the pharmacy tomorrow and check it.

@starwhisperer6 Try a liquid iron supplement. I was just diagnosed with iron deficient anemia (iron saturation level of 12%) and the pills ripped my stomach apart. Doc said to try liquid instead as a next step. Don't know how it's helping with the anemia, but I'm not having stomach pain anymore. I mix it with a 1/4 cup of juice. Tastes fine!

OP, you don't have to have the "best" diet, just try for one more veggie and fruit a day. Even if it's the same thing, it'll help. One step at a time. I eat broccoli, cauliflower, spinach, peppers and berries--pretty much. Not a lot of range, but they're fruits and veggies!

You might consider looking at Floradix. Another option is Hylands Cell Salt #4. Both of these are better forms of iron and easier absorbed then iron pills. I know a number of people that are anemic and can't take iron but can do either or both of these forms.

Eat more good fats like almonds/nuts, and tbh it happens on a low cal diet or if ur not getting enough calories. Vitamins help SO MUCH, but if that doesnt work add some healthy fats to ur diet, an egg- with yolk, nuts, dried fruits etc
    :)

I like veggies and have many fruits. I have strawberries and banana for breakfast and an apple for snack, I also love berries, they just aren't in season. The problem I have with veggies is that they have to have something on them for me to enjoy them, butter, cheese, dressing. I haven't been able to shake the high calories add ons, so I stay away from them more than I should. I will make it a point to eat more of them.

Honestly though, for me, my focus was calorie based before nutrition. CICO and all.
