SAY "NO" TO LATE NIGHT SNACKING -- MAY 2016 CHALLENGE

Tired of self-sabotaging by munching after dinner? Upset that you double your in-calories at night? Then it's not just me . To get some help (or inspire us by your good example), please join us in this challenge.

You set what you feel is late night snacking. For example, if you have extra calories left for the day, you can have a snack if it's small. Others decide not to eat at a past a certain time. It's up to you.

We go by the formula:
Me: "number indicating how many evenings you stuck to it"
LNS: "number of times late night snacks won"

Example: Me: 2 - LNS: 0 indicates I won the first two nights.

Some people also add a * to the latest number. In the example, that would be
Me: 2 - LNS: 1*
if LNS won the 3rd night.

It's as simple as that. Or as complicated, as you will discover. Nevertheless, the persistence and good results of some of our "old" members (and some people keep coming back) show that the battle is worthwhile .

You will notice some people post streaks of how many days they are free of late night snacking. This is definitely not a requirement, but if you want to do it for motivation, it works well.

Welcome!

Easiest thing to remember is the Three Hour Rule - don't eat THREE hours before going to bed

The body burns energy night and day.

I've lost 79 lbs in the past year and reached goal, and I eat three quarters of my calories an hour or less before bed.

The "Don't eat X hours before bed" is a myth.

    Best wishes.

I agree with you @Orphia but for me and a lot of others that use this challenge to stay on track it's that eating later on at night while watching TV turns into mindless snacking very quickly and before you know I've doubled my calorie intake in an hour. So having this challenge has been great to keep accountable at night.

    Cheers.

Adults devise a plan and follow it. Children do what feels good.
Maturity is the ability to delay pleasure.

Thanks, @TerriRichardson112, for the great goal format. Everyone should allow room in your goals for life. No one lives at 100%. (Well... one guy did, but LNS wasn't why He was here. )

I agree with others it is mindless eating just because.

Watching tv. Or reading. Easy to snack blow my calories.
    A new month

My goal no eating after 7.30
I want to log ALL FOOD ANS LIQUID INTAKE
    I DONT WANT TO BINGE
I EANT A HEALTHY MONTH OF MAY WITH SOME WEIGHT LOSS ON SCALE

    ME 0
LNS 1. Ate a hard boiled egg that broke accidentally
I was making lunch for tomorrow
    Cooked several eggs
One broke so I ate it at 9.30 pm
Now I realize I just smacked after 7.30
Since the egg was healthy and I hadn't hit my calorie goal maybe it not considered snack!!!!????

Challenge sounds interesting. I'm starting 5/2. Being that I'm a Pastry Chef, I tend to snack on the desserts or breads that I baked. So, my goal for this challenge is to consume no food, shakes or smoothies EXCEPT water after 7PM.

@conniehealthygirl You fesses up, so don't stress over it. I lost a 63 day streak doing it myself a few months ago.
We all indulge in 'mindless eating, just because...' We eat things because we don't like to waste good food.
*thinks!* Next time: Mash up the egg, with some chopped tomato, and a touch of mayo. It makes a lovely sandwich filling for lunch.

May Goals I am setting my cutoff an hour earlier this month.

@Orphia Your weight loss is commendable, but I take issue with your unhelpful, patronising tone.
The "Don't eat X hours before bed" is a myth. This is merely your opinion, which you are entitled to hold.

    However, my opinion is different.
    • Sleep allows the body to perform many functions vital to life, to recharge the 'batteries', so to speak.
    • Eating late at night means the body has insufficient time to digest the food eaten before one goes to sleep.
    • This means that the vital restorative functions which occur during sleep can be delayed.

    The benefits of this thread.
    • In the evening, after a hard day, people get tired and for many, will-power weakens, and they find it difficult to resist the lure of food. You are fortunate that you are not one of these people.
    • The accountability of this thread has helped many people to change an unhealthy, self-sabotaging habit. I know that because I am one of those people.
    • The accountability of posting here has helped me change my unhealthy, regular, Non-Mythical Late Night Snacking habit into a rare conscious choice.
    • Since you so obviously don't need such encouragement, one wonders why you felt the need to post here!
