Did that 7 yesterday and 5 today and have Tempo Intervals tomorrow. LOL, I never thought it would be the case that I should be more aggressive...... I think I got overly cautious after being a little too gungho at first.

It can be a fine line. I've always been pretty aggressive based on my past history of being able to recover from anything such as injury or surgery very quickly. For the most part this hasn't been a problem but a couple of times where being too aggressive bit me in the *kitten*. Two times I can think of were when I decided to run a 5 mile tempo run after after not doing anything other than easy runs for several weeks prior, and while increasing mileage. I believe that is what gave me knee issues which slowed me down for a couple of weeks. The other time it bit me was when I played basketball for an hour the day after a 20+ mile run. That's what gave rise to my recent achilles issue.

Running a few extra miles when I felt good, however, have never been an issue. It's all part of getting to know your body and how it reacts.

I'm feeling pretty good, but I'm definitely more tired than I normally am. In 2 runs, I am halfway to what my normal weekly average was, with 3 runs to go, including my LR on Sat! This week will end up being close to the max I can fit in without doing daily doubles, I may be starting those after I recover from my first HM, when I'm training for my second HM.

Don't normally run on Wed/Thurs but I'm off work today through Memorial day. So hoping to run this afternoon. It's currently dark and stormy with lightning. My legs were pretty tired last night despite the running rest day Monday, but that was from strength training Monday. So maybe today I'll run first then do more pilates.

    Nice run @WhatMeRunning :)

@vandinem Congrats on the 10k PR!

@moyer566 Take it easy, but nice run being sick. I run sick too ;)

@whetmerunning Great run! And on a side note, you're way better than I am at slowing down to keep HR in a good zone.

5.45 miles yesterday, mostly walking but I had many times where I had to pick up the pace to a run in order to get around slowpokes on the trail..

    @RespectTheKitty great job!

It was a warm one yesterday... about 85 degrees and very sunny. I think that's about as warm as I can stand it, not sure how I'm going to manage running in hotter weather. We'll just have to wait and see.

@RespectTheKitty it will typically takes a person a couple of weeks to adapt to running in the warmer, more humid weather. That's not to say you'll love it, but it will get better as your body gets used to it.

Last year I did all I could to avoid running in the heat of the day, sometimes running at midnight. This summer my plan is to embrace the heat and just go for it. The only exception is when I run with Kody.

@greenolivetree well, at least in a couple of weeks I won't be feeling run down all the time. It's been like a month. So i'm looking forward to that.
Sometimes running sick is the only way to feel better.

@respectthekitty you are braver than me. i would not like running for fun in anything that warm.

Had to cut today's run short. J had his junior high award ceremony at 9am and I wanted to be done before that. May go out later if it isn't to warm. Tomorrow is my session with my personal trainer so don't want to be to tired for that. Looks like I will make my plan for the first time in a while.

Also, as you adapt to the warmer weather, your body will make huge improvements. In your head, you may think you are getting slower in your head, but in reality, you are getting faster. You just won't realize it until the weather starts to cool down.

Pay the piper now. Stick with it in the summer. Take it more cautious and slow down a little as your body adjusts to the heat and have plenty of water on hand. You will be very happy that you did once September/October hits.

This is very true, and also the reason why fall races are better for PRs!

This is why I'm hoping that, despite it being a more challenging course, my September HM will end up being faster than my July HM... Of course, I'll have more running experience by then too....

So true, last year I ran my first HM in October in NY. But my training was all in Florida during the summer. I kept saying "WHAT WAS I THINKING!?" Then when I went to NY and ran in October it was awesome and then I thought it was the smartest thing I ever did. Next one was in February and that was perfect for me (except we had an unusually hot December).
So this year, I'm going to stick with the heat and get it done!

Well I'm back after no running for 2 weeks, far too much going on. I felt nervous that I'd not be able to run but it was fine except for the heat. Running in heat is a whole other game. I'm not going to say the temp as may would laugh at my idea of heat.

@5BeautifulDays - Wish you a speedy recovery, a friend had same op and they suffered so hope it isn't as bad for you.

Anything over 60f/15c is hot and takes getting use to. Even worse if it's humid.
I've decided anything over 40f/4c is hot.

Interesting article, especially for those of us that fit the proverbial shoe:

    http://www.wsj.com/articles/SB10001424052970204047504574384973660445730

I always said that qualifying for Boston was the end of the line for me, but now that I have done that, I'm finding it a bit harder than I thought to quit focusing on improving my speed. I really feel like maybe trail running is my answer. I only wish it was as easy as running out my front door. Most of the parks that have trails near me only have 1-3 mile loops. For those of you that run trails, how far do you usually have to travel to get to good trails? Do you run loops around the same paths? What distance are your trails?
I live almost exactly 1 mile from 2 different entrances to an urban paved trail along the Santa Ana River. It is only a 3 mile loop but add in a mile each way to/from my house I can typically get in 5. It also has access to the dirt service road that runs right along the river and I can go around 10 there. I can also cut over the the paved bike trail on the other side of the river and run all the way to the beach if I wanted to, around 20 miles. The only issues I have are that it is so flat and in some areas there are tons of homeless people and trash that Hobbes the Vizsla wants to get into as we run by.

Next week Tuesday is scheduled to be my longest week day run of the training cycle, 1h20-1h40, looking at getting in roughly 9 miles.....already debating whether to make it a nice, easy, relatively flat run, or do a hill repeat like I did yesterday and totally kick my *kitten*

Surgery is set for June 6th. Guess I'd better get the house ready--eliminating trip hazards, moving boxes of stuff so that my mom has a room to sleep in while she's here. Kind of bad timing for surgery since we're getting ready to move, but maybe it'll kick my butt into gear and force me to get the spare bedroom packing finished before mom shows up!

At least my mom is nice enough to make the long trip down to drive me to and from surgery and stay with me for a few days afterward. My husband just started a new job last week (and this is his first week on location--last week was all orientation stuff), so taking days off probably wouldn't be the best idea for him...

Week 8 day 2 is in the books. 2.25 miles running, 3.65 miles total with walking. I supposedly only have one more day left of c25k, but I can't quite get up to 3 miles yet. Guess that gives me something to work on once I finish the program.

Holy carp, I'm almost at my goal for the month.

3.1 miles tonight. 75F and 80% humidity. I managed pretty well though. Anybody using Garmin app notice this new feature? You can overlay pace over elevation or heart rate over pace, etc.n2l83shbophl.png
This is what I have been looking for! Hopefully MapMyRun will get onboard with it too!

Ugh @mathsrunner that looks like it hurt! Glad it looks worse than it was
@ceciliaslater - good luck with the surgery! I am glad your mom will be there to help out!
@marissaxzxzxz - I hate running when it is above about 65 but come summer there is no avoiding it. Just make sure you hydrate well before, during and after!

LOL, I ordered one of those Beat the Blerch Virtual Race kits from The Oatmeal. They're supposed to ship in September... I should be crushing 5k's by then.
