:)Karen in Virginia, your grandchildren are darling...what a thrill that must have been for them

:)Rori, best wishes to your brother. I hope he immerses himself deeply in his new A.A. group along with getting excited about exercise and healthy living..supporting him by not drinking is a very thoughtful act.

:)MIchele, I hope the doctors will find a speedy and effective solution to your ear tumor.

:'(Margaret, sorry to hear that there was no improvement for your DH

:)Heather, I am looking forward to hearing all about your Arctic cruise...so sorry about your son's dog :'(

:) Jake spent most of yesterday on the phone with family members....also with nurses from the cardiologist and spine surgeon trying to make an informed decision about whether his heart is strong enough to handle the spine surgery.

    Good morning ladies!

Margaret ... Thanks for the update in your husband ... I've been thinking about him.

DJ ... My husband is on a cocktail of controlled substances .... Which, as the media is highlighting ... Is a no-no. Of course, they are prescribed medications. So his doctors sent him to pain specialists who initially treated him horribly but have since determined that weaning him off is not possible due to the extent of his spinal injuries. He has multiple neurosurgeons reviewing his surgical options as the side effects of the narcorics has become intolerable. We're hoping for some insight into how to help him. He's still working, a desk job but a lot of road travel ... Some days the impinged nerves leave him unable to walk. The damage began years ago when he didn't respect his body ... Lifting things no man should lift ... And the onset of constant pain started with an injury 11 years ago. Sigh.

Heather ... Of course there are friends who would be here to help in a heartbeat if we asked ... Pride is such a stupid thing though, isn't it ...

Today I've reminded myself how we are supposed to eat an elephant ... So that's what I'm doing ... One bite at a time. And on the bright side ... Keeping busy keeps me out of the kitchen!!

    Have a great day ladies!

Hugs for Jake, Barbie. You always talk about him as if he is a person who handles stress and pain with grace. Am I correct?

Wondering how Becca and her husband are getting on.

Karen in Virginia Cheri I live near Midlothian. I think Sheltering Arms on Hull Street Road is a good PT place and Ortho VA or Advanced Ortho are good orthopedists, but I am sure your daughter will get a recommendation from her Chicago doctors.

Thank you for this information. :) She is going to check and see what is covered by her new insurance on July 1st. It is always a good thing to have recommendations. I will pass these on to her so when she looks she can check on these. On one of my future visits we will have to get together! She will have an extra bedroom in this apt and I plan on using it to visit her and my 1 great niece and 4 nephews all who are under 5 years old! <3

Marcelyn - I know it feels like the rain and flooding will never end, but it will. Wet sod is very heavy, did you figure out how to count that big calorie burn in MFP? :)

The demo and reconstruction of my living room fireplace continues. Living in an open concept floor plan means the construction dust is everywhere. The new gas fireplace passed its building inspection yesterday so the installers will be back on Tuesday to button up the wall and remove/repair the old outside venting. I have a very old reclaimed barnwood beam shipping in from Wisconsin next week and the trick will be getting it mounted on the wall. It's solid wood and very heavy. With any luck all of this will be completed by the end of June.

    morning again ladies~
we went to feed DFIL and he ate his breakfast.. then came home, I have been yelled at already... and I can not keep up with Tom especially in the heat... we are having 80 degree days with humidity and he is out doing hard physical labor and it worries me.. I make sure to feed him a good breakfast, and keep ice water on hand, and try and get things done here in the house..but he just never stops... I think we might be going down to the shore this afternoon for a walk and a bite to eat, but will see how he feels... and trying to talk to him is like talking to the dog they listen but wont answer ,and if they do it is with barking...
he is off to Lowes to get something.. he is trying to stop the water from leaking into the basement through where the bulkhead door is, so he has dug a trench all the way around cleaned the cement and put some type of sealer on the cement, now that he has done that he is sealing the top..
Hope everyone enjoys the holiday weekend, and thank you to all you women who served our country.. we are truly blessed..

Rori: It is so great to hear from you! Good thoughts for your brother's continued recovery.

Michele: I also hate snakes. Keep us in the loop regarding your ear. The word tumor has become terrifying. I'm glad to know it is most likely benign. :flowerforyou:

Heather: I'm keeping your son's potential dog in my best thoughts. I know how wonderful dogs can be at keeping a person grounded and out of depression. :star:

Karen in VA: I think you are referring to me as Kayla. It is neither my real name nor my myfitnesspal moniker. Katla is a made up name that uses part of my first name and part of my last name.

Beth: Your husband's situation sounds very difficult. I hope they are able to find a solution that will get him off of his "cocktail." A couple of years ago my DH was experiencing terrible pain and we found a neurosurgeon who was able to get arthritic deposits off of a nerve in his lower back. It made a huge improvement in his life. I hope your DH is also able to find a gifted doctor.

Becca: If you check in, we're all thinking about you and hope you find a good solution for your DH's liver problems.

Riding lesson early this morning. (9am) I am looking forward to it! We seem to have a gorgeous day but it is slated to be in the low 60's and there is a possibility of thunderstorms.

    May Resolutions :
    1. Log every bite and swallow.
    2. Cardio exercise at least 3 days a week. Work on flexibility and back strength.
    3. Have fun every day.
    4. Drink at least three glasses of water daily, preferably more!
    5. Monitor sleep. Try to average 7 or more hours of sleep nightly.

Had to suspend the service on my cellphone today. Have not been able to find it since the 19th (which was the last time I used it). Hopefully BF will find it at her house; I 'think' that is where I went after going to the MD that day. At this point, my short-term memory bank is shot full of holes. Not even sure that is where I went. If I find it, then I can have the service reinstated and not lose my number. If not, at least we have insurance on it. I just hate to have to program another freaking phone. And the loss of my contacts will be bad to have to type in and reset. I have not been able to drive since the 12th when I had a seizure (not related to the wreck) as I have had a seizure disorder for nearly 10 years now. DH went to work for a little while this AM; and DOS is mowing our grass for us. That's sweet.

Later on, I will go and do my exercise in the pool. DDnL#1 got a job. Won't be making but 2/3rd of what she had been making; and no benefits. But, at least some income coming in to help with the bills. Since she got this job through a Labor/Job Finding Company the amount she gets paid is set by them for the first 3 months and they can't give her a raise until she has passed the 3 month probationary period. It's in the next county; but, she was already working in another county that touched the county we live in. Sure hope it works out for her. She had a job interview in town (in county) but they were not going to be making a decision for another 2 weeks. They need the money now. It had benefits; but, don't know the starting pay.

Cracker is now without one of her toenails; but, it hasn't stopped her much; she does come in and sleeps a lot.

Welcome to all the 'newbies' and prayers for all who need it for themselves, their family or friends.

I added a new exercise to the list. I took the girls to an outdoor concert last night, and tried to dance with Isabelle but my knees and hips were NOT having it. So I sat down, but I cannot sit still while listening to music. So I added "dancing, vigorous, while sitting" with a guestimate of 400 calories. Line dancing and belly dancing are 470 and slow ballroom dancing was 313. So midway between those two is 400. They LOVED the concert and want to go every Friday night this summer.

Well, quite a day yesterday. My head kind of reeling from it all. I was able to put the passenger seat as back as it would go, so husband was able to ride next to me on the way there. Easier for him to play with all the knobs and buttons. I am hopeless at tuning in a radio station AND driving. Same goes for the heater etc. I am so not multi-task sauve'. The hospital we go to is Oregon Health & Sciences University hospital, where he rec'd his liver transplant. Traffic in was not too bad, rained a bit. Got there early so that was nice, not to have to rush. Went to lab where husband said they collected a handful of tubes. He was on his crutches but managed traveling from the Pavillon bldg to the main hospital. We checked in, and I had time to grab lunch in one of the side cafes. Sandwiches were $7, (crazy), but I choose a layered Greek salad in a large mason jar. It was $6.50 but I figured it better than the sandwich because my husband wouldn't feel hungry as I ate it in front of him, and also I could bring home a nice mason jar. It was layered with chick peas, banana peppers, cherry tomatoes, some crumbled feta cheese, lettuce pieces and a nice balsamic dressing. It gave me something to do as well, shaking the blasted thing to get it all mixed up.

The ultra sound and biopsy was a combined thing, not a "lets look at your insides and see if we need to do the biopsy" like I thought. His appointment was at 3:30 PM and he was out and back in the recovery section by 5:45 PM. He was in good spirits and was excited to order dinner! He had steak with some baby potatoes, and cheese cake. I ordered a small salad with hazelnuts, and a balsamic berry dressing.

This trip was more just getting information to the doctors, the lab and the biopsy. No decisions or comments on what may be happening sadly. The doctor that did the biopsy said we would get a call probably on Tues or Wednesday from someone from the transplant team of doctors (I am guessing). We do have a transplant coordinator that has been with us throughout this whole journey. She is who I called when his symptoms started occurring last Tuesday. It happened really fast, which was alarming. When we had some labs done here on Thursday, she called me that afternoon saying his numbers looked awful. But at least she didn't say we needed to call an ambulance or anything.

His jaundice skin is itchy he states. His eyes are still yellowish, and as he puts it he pee's yellow Easter egg dye. His biopsy is just a little hole on his side, so no dealing with an incision site, just a band aide. I have to just be patient with the flow of information and it takes time. Meanwhile my thoughts go to dark places and its hard to sleep.

Thanks for all the prayers and thoughts, it really helps :-)
    Becca just checking in

Oh the drive home was Horrendous!!! At one point we were going 40 on the freeway. A car that had sped by us, was at the front of all of the cars intentionally doing 40 mph. Then 5 cars passed (onto incoming traffic with an approaching curve). Thank God there wasn't a log truck coming around the corner. Crazy people. The thing was there WAS a sign that said passing permitted in 1/2 mile. All they had to do was wait. I made my move then. I did have many cars blow by me but I held firm at 60 mph. I also saw about 7 police cars pulling people over, so they were definitely making their presence known this holiday weekend. I am learning to be patient behind the wheel too. All the speeding cars were like..."We need to get to our hotel rooms at the coast, I am missing my relaxing time dammit!".... At least that was what we think they were saying to each other as they flew past. It's scary when you know a car is behind you, so close that you can't even see their headlights. All these ramblings is from a lady that views driving a bit different than a normal adult. I got my license for the first time at 51 yrs old. I truly never thought I would ever get a drivers license. I just didn't want to ever "Play the game" when it came to driving. So there are times when I am driving and I think..."Mom are you seeing this??" Frilling amazin!
