Welcome to our May Cycling Thread! If you are new to posting on this thread, or if you are new to cycling, We welcome you! If you are returning from a previous thread, We welcome you, too.
This thread is for anyone who rides a bike. Do you bike to work? Do you pull your children to the park? So you ride weekends? Do you spin, at home or the gym? Or, are you just starting out and remembering how much fun you had biking when you were a kid? However you choose to push your pedal, you are welcome on this thread.
There are no rules to how or what you post. You may post miles, minutes, # of rides, what the scenery looks like, anything. Whatever will motivates you to get on your bike.
Now, go forth and bike friends!

I'd like to be consistent from week to week, one week I'll do 120 next 270 then 180 then 220 no rhyme or reason to it, would love to hit 1000 in a month, Jan in rubbish weather 480, Feb rubbish weather 850, March 510, April 780 Maybe May will be my month, then again maybe not I have a week on holiday (no bike) plus 3 days of working away this month. I'll need to average 50 miles a day every day. Oh well 40 this morning.1

Missed my April goal by 15 miles... Womp womp :P for May, I will try not to leave 30 miles for the very last day of the month when it is predicted to be rainy, lol. I'm increasing my mileage goal to 450 miles for May, in the hopes that it will be nicer biking weather. I'm about to go out for a ride now to kick off the new month1

Thank's for posting the challenge, @UmmSqueaky !
I'd like to join again; cycling to work and back two to three days per week.
In April I made it to 124.5km - let's see if I can't get past 125km this month1 -
I'm up for it again, cheerful beginner cyclist - as soon as I can breathe again , trying to kick off a terrible cold! Goal for this month: visit all the old churches within a 6 mile radius and photograph them all. There's quite a few.2

Main goal for May is a 100 mile Audax in the New Forest (southern England) on May 8th.
Last big training ride before the event was today - easy week ahead to arrive at the event with fresh legs.
Today's ride was 73 miles @ 16.5mph, felt good and even had some welcome sunshine at last - April was cold!
That took me to over 7000 exercise calories for the week.5 -
May 1st 30.4 Miles -- Duration 1:38:59
May Total Miles: 30.4
May Total Duration: 1:38:591 -
I'm in again with a goal of 800 km
2nd May: 41.02 km1 -
It's my first time joining this challenge. I have two cruiser bikes (one new Huffy, and a 1952 German bike) so my rides are usually pretty slow. I do try to use the stationary bikes at the gym too. I'm going to set my May goal at 200 miles. Started the month out with a 10 mile ride with my son today!3
-
I'm back too! I love this challenge! I missed my goal of 200 miles last month so I'll go for 200 again.im going out for longer rides as I get stronger so it should be doable. I signed up for a metric century in September so I have a solid goal. It's been a couple of years (and a broken foot) since I've ridden a century so I gave myself plenty of time to prepare (and look forward)!1

I'm in. Aiming for 100 miles per week.
Hit 61 miles on my road bike this afternoon. Perfect day for it.1 -

April wasn't a brilliant month for me in terms of exercise ... I had hoped to do one or two longer bicycle rides but sometimes life intervenes in the plans. April ended up being an incredibly busy month with a heavier-than-usual workload at work + assignments due at university + the final steps of my citizenship process. I wrote the citizenship exam and then my ceremony was on April 29 and I am now officially an Australian Citizen!
May should be a calmer month, although I will be wrapping up the uni course I'm in so there will be work to do for that. Nevertheless, I hope for more kilometres than last May.

Thanks for posting @UmmSqueaky -- It slipped my mind to get the new thread up until I got to work today and saw it was 5/2.
I think I am going to change up my riding goals for the year -- this year I am going to log overall mileage/saddle time for month with no set mileage goal.
May - 50.4 mi // 3.7 hours
YTD Totals -- 599.8mi // 46.8 hours0 -
No monthly goals as such for me just working towards my yearly goal of 5000 miles
Nice 50 mile ride out yesterday with the Sunday Social group making the most of the weather, although I seemed to be the only one brave enough to get his (shockingly pale) legs out. Fortunately I'm behind the camera so you will all be spared having to see them lol.
*WARNING* the photos below contain pictures of middle aged men in lycra!!!!
I'm also going to try and fit another couple of longish rides in this week before I have to go back to work for the weekend

Darn, thought I'd replied to this but I don't see it. Apologies if I'm doubling up. I'm going for 400 this month. A little tricky since I tweaked my back (so I'll be missing the first week or so), but I think it's doable.0

Yaaay lookit all the people joining! Welcome welcome!
Mixing it up a bit this month - rather than a mileage goal, I'm going to do aim for specific workouts. I signed up for a sprint tri in August and haven't done any training. Biking I've got down, swimming will be ok, but running is 110% not my forte. I can shuffle through a 5k in 40-ish minutes right now, but that's without having to swim and bike first. So, I'm going to go for 2 brick workouts a week - bike home from work, followed by a 5k. And, one biking hills workout on the weekend. At least I'll be able to rock the bike portion of the tri, even if the other two sections will be suuuuper weak.
