I'm 47 and I've been lifting for 2 years. I started with Stronglifts, then went to PHUL & now doing 5/3/1. I love what lifting has done for me (lost 22 lbs of mostly fat) & only wish I'd started earlier.

I'm 40...turning 41 next month. What would you suggest for a newbie to get started lifting? Are there any good helpful apps one can use?

@fanceegirl75 there are some great books out there with progressive programs in them like New Rules of Lifting for Women and Strong Curves. I also recommend Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle because of the information in this book on everything about strength training and nutrition. Also check bodybuilding.com for programs and I know alot of people here use the StrongLifts 5x5 app.

Oh my goodness, I need this thread in my life. 40 years old, runner for 6 years, now doing triathlon and started to lift about 6 months ago and love what it's doing to my body. Trouble is now I can't focus, want to do everything and have so much less time now since I left my ex, have two daughters (8 and 10) to care for so far fewer opportunities to train, life feels too busy and I'm forever setting unrealistic goals I can't achieve (ironman??) then consoling myself by eating my body weight in chocolate

Stumbled upon this on a search re: the Texas method  41yo lifting for a few years. Feel like I should have more to show for my 3-4day a week lifting life and need some inspiration/motivation to get a new program going.

Off to check out the group.

Just started strong lifts too this last month. I'm 43 and love weightlifting. I feel so much better when I do it. I am just really getting started again after not lifting regularly for years. I am already increasing weight lifted and feeling stronger. Working on losing weight and building muscle.

I just turned 51 last week. I'm getting started again after nearly a year of adhesive capsulitis in the right shoulder. I hate to think of how much muscle I must have lost. It's just great to be able to lift again, I've gotten about 90% of the mobility back but have lost a good bit of strength.

I don't think @modmom1 has been active on the site in a while, so she might not be getting the requests and I don't think there is anyone else to approve it. :( The group has been pretty quiet since she went away.

How much protein do you all eat daily or what are your macros set at?
  • Sumiblue
    Sumiblue Posts: 1,597 Member
My macros are 40/30/30 (40% carbs). I try to make sure I get at least 100g protein/day.

When I was cutting I was at 40P/20F/40C. Then I moved to a 40/30/30 ration like Sumiblue. Now, I just make sure I eat enough protein and let the rest fall where they may. Probably why I've gotten a little fluffy lately.

Thanks! I am going to up my protein and see how that works for me. I've been losing weight, but want to build muscle too. Just want to find the right balance.

I had just switched to 45 protein 40 carb and 15 fat. Maybe I need to do 40-40-20?

I would think that 15% fat would be very difficult to hit. Even 20% takes a ton of planning.
