OMG Rogstar you are right. Diets are very hard to deal with. But you are right calorie counting is the best thing ever. But sometimes I worry about not eating enough calories. Because I am also on a low carb diet.0

Hey, is that your before/after/in progress in your photo? It looks like you've already put in a ton of hard work! If you've found something that works for you and you can live with, stick with it! I just know that low carb isn't for me, but if you're liking it then that's great!1 -
Yes that's my before & after pic I don't know how to post them in discussions and stuff. But thank you so much it has been so hard to stay focused especially when everyone around you isn't the same way. But this time I am really determined.1

I use slim fast shakes high protein I love them so far for over a week now ! I'm finally realizing I can't eat without counting and worrying about what I'm eating if I want to be thinner Or fit in my clothes1 -
I'm on the eat whatever the hell I want diet as long as it fits in my calorie goal and/or weekly deficit. Some days that entails eating the more traditional "healthy foods" like veggies, lean meats, dairy, and grains because they keep me satisfied. Some days I eat only fast food and chocolate ice cream. Most days it's a mixture of both. Works for me. I lost over 100 pounds doing this in the past, and while I went through some unfortunate events that led to me to start losing in an unhealthy way and gaining back everything, now that I'm back to CICO the weight is coming off again. 20 pounds in 40 days. On vacation now eating lots of yummy foods and cocktails and not worrying because I know when I get back home CICO will work. It's not a gamble, not a "diet."4

So, when you've reached your weight loss goal and are done with the Slimfast Diet, what then? What will you have learned from the Slimfast Diet that will enable you to keep the weight off for good? I alternate between counting callories and slimming world.The reason why I swap between the two is sometimes I find counting calories emotionally taxing, I get anxiety and sometimes life gets on top of me. When I'm very anxious diets are another worry so I swich to slimming world when I want to take the pressure off. I dont have to be as riged with logging things on SW. When I feel okay I swich back to callorie counting because slimming world can be restrictive and i get better results with callorie counting. So far both plans have been working for me.0

On the 3 week regime so I basically just eat for my macros and calories. Still losing 1-2 pounds per week so I guess its working pretty good!1

About a year ago, I started doing a Whole Foods Plant Based (WFPB) diet, I also keep it low fat. I like potatoes, oats, rice, beans, lentils, pasta, corn, lots of fruits and veggies, sugar, almond milk, a few nuts and seeds. Occasionally bread or cereal. Once or twice a week, I'll have some sweets like ice cream, chocolate and biscuits. I started at 152 lbs and now maintaining at 117 lbs.3

I just eat foods I love in moderation. Since the only requirement for weight loss is a calorie deficit, there is no reason for me to eat or drink things like slim fast or special diets.1 -
When I decided to lose weight I chose an approach to eating that I felt would carry me through the rest of my life in good stead. I wasn't particularly over weight, but I didn't feel like I was in control of my weight, and I knew that living on junk food wasn't a good plan in the long run, so I read and read and read.
I also listened to an NPR report that turned out to be Dr. Agatston from the South Beach Diet (which hadn't been written yet). I created an approach that made sense to me.
It was:
Lots of leafy green vegetables, nuts and seeds, legumes, lean proteins, dairy, fruit, and intact, whole grains. The only thing I limited was heavily refined carbohydrates (and therefore added sugars as well). I quickly and easily got down to my goal weight without counting calories or anything else. (5'6" 130-135). Basically I eat protein and veg for my meals (sometimes with intact whole grains added), and nuts and seeds, dairy or fruit for my snacks.
That was about 15 years ago and I and have pretty much stayed there by eating whole foods and lots of plants. The only time the scale ticks up is when I deviate from MY diet, and/or when my stupid menopausal hormones have a surge. Then, a couple of weeks of being particularly mindful of MY diet, and I can get the scale to go back down to my preferred weight.
After losing weight, the South Beach Diet came out, and I read the original book. I think it's a great primer for learning how to eat nutrient dense, delicious foods, with a few caveats. And I believe some people can benefit from a formal tutorial diet for a while. Some of us really don't know how to make good decisions, or what those even are...
Folks are asking what your plan is after the shakes because in reality maintenance is more important than losing. Figure out how to eat for life. You'll be glad you did. Good luck!6 -
100lb lost, been weighing logging, trying to stay under calorie goals by the week.. except for the times I dont..

I eat healthfully, pay attention to how much I eat, and eat foods I enjoy. I lost 95 lbs and then increased how much I ate following the same principles.4

I eat a wide variety of foods while making sure I'm at least close to protein goals. Fat and carbs are never a problem to hit. I count calories. Nothing special to my diet.
Lately I am concentrating on making sure of nutrients because I'm unable to eat at normal volume (health issue). Not as many treat items because of that. They still more than fit into my calories if I have something though.2 -
My #1 and 2 concerns are protein and fiber. If you can work out a diet where you hit your protein and fiber goals and using variety to get there, it is nearly impossible for it not to be a balanced diet.

Unless you plan to drink those shakes for the rest of your life, they are pointless.
How are they teaching you to control your portions of real food, learn to love a wider variety of foods, learn to prepare delicious meals that meet your caloric goals, still have holiday dinners and go out to eat...?
Losing weight fast isn't that much of an accomplishment. Teaching yourself how to lose weight while still eating "normal" food, and then using those skills to KEEP THE WEIGHT OFF is the true accomplishment.4 -

CI < (or = since I'm transitioning into maintenance) CO with an emphasis on eating a healthful and sustainable diet (80% of total calories going to meeting nutritional/macronutrient needs, 20% of total calories being treats and discretionary calories) with an emphasis on nonstarchy vegetables, fruits, low fat dairy, lean protein and fish, plant-based fat sources, and whole grains/legumes/starchy vegetables/low-nutrient treats in moderation (I have a medical condition that is exacerbated by too many carbs). Regularly engaging in physical activities that I enjoy in order to earn more discretionary calories, maintain/improve my fitness, and feel overall happier (I feel my best on days where I exercise).1

Fat has more calories than carbs or protein, so if it's about losing weight some people find it easier to take in fewer calories if they eat less fatty foods. That's pretty much the only reason I ever cut fat out of my diet. I couldn't tell you what Traveler120's reasons are tough.0
