Also doing a little experiment by incorporating leg work back into my strength training, I don't tend to do any weights for my legs during the cycling season but would like to add some size and strength to my legs. Doing it at the start of the week so I get recovery time before my weekend rides.
Weights Monday and Wednesday and straight back to maxing out the leg press and leg curl machines despite not using them for 4 (?) months.
I'm struggling to balance out gym and bike sessions at the moment. My main focus from September on is doing the AllPro weight routine which includes squats and straight-leg deadlifts in every session and I'm kind of trialling the sessions now, but I want to keep up the cycling (and need to for commuting), so I'm not quite sure how to balance off the two. At the moment, DOMS is killing me for the 2 days after the heavy session, particularly the 2nd day

Could I also take a moment to remind everyone of this:If any of you are up for another (complimentary) challenge, have a look at Vuelta Espana Cycling Challenge
I did the Tour de France one, and it's good fun and very motivating. I'd be up for this one as well if I wasn't going to be away in the middle of it.
You'll need to be on Strava, but other than that you don't have to do anything other than your normal rides, all the work is done for you by the wonderful CycLeagues tool

Just out of curiosity, in case something like that comes along again: do you have to set your rides to public on Strava to join in that kind of challenge?

I finally got the bike shoes that I ordered. I wanted to install everything on the weekend - and realised that the Look cleats I bought don't go with my Look pedals. Apperently, I need "delta" instead of "keo". This clip-in pedal thing is really complicated!
So I'm still cycling in an old pair of running shoes. Today I missed a turn and ended up on a much hillier route than planned, and when I notices I was too stubbort to turn around, so I struggled through it. Next time I'll pay more attention to where I'm going! ;-)

In answer to your question about public rides on Strava, the answer is yes - the CycLeagues app pulls the data from your public Strava rides

Back from family vacation, time to get back in the saddle and work off those extra pounds that I didn't worry about last week. Still getting used to the new bike and the clips. Had my first clip fall, luckily no one else was around to witness it, so it didn't happen.
The gearing on this bike is very different than my old hybrid, will take me a while to get used to them. Because of the clips and the different riding position of the bike, using some different muscles now, I was sore in a few places after my ride on Sunday.

Welcome back tcaley4.... Been riding several years with clip in's. Had a fall Saturday on a fund rasing ride for the trail. Inexperienced rider made a bone head move that I had to jam on the brakes for and couldn't get unclipped. On your left means your going to pass on the right "really" I thought you wanted me to go to the left!!!! ggrrrrr. It happen because 4 other riders heard me call her a f__ktard!!!1

The trouble is that while this might be accepted terminology for cyclists who are experienced at riding in groups, for those who are not it really isn't clear - many people hearing that will turn to their left to see what is "on their left" that they're being warned about, and in turning will inadvertently veer left. Here's an article about that very thing: Cyclist kills pedestrian; does calling "on your left" not work?
Personally, I think it would be better to yell "coming through on your left" or "keep right, I'm coming through on your left" or something like that. It's a bit redundant to the experienced, but it's a lot clearer to the inexperienced.2 -

Real turgid grind of a trip home today - felt under the weather myself and struggled against, quelle surprise, a strong headwind - this time all the way home instead of half the trip

Hmm.. I think I got this... Maybe. If i call out "on your left", it literally means on the persons being pasts, left side, correct?

Hey there! I'm wanting to join in. A couple of years ago I got to riding more, and started going out on the country roads riding to the next town. I loved it so much but it became too hard on my joints. SO I stopped riding. A month and a half ago I joined the gym and started using the Recumbent bike there which has been so much more tolerable. I had a goal of 120 miles for July and reached 124. For August I'm sticking with the 120 as I have family coming soon and won't be making it into the gym as much I'm guessing.

Yes Elise and Becky that's exactly how it is supposed to work. On your left means your passing on there left. They need to hold there position or move to the right.2

Hello again, August is a month of work trips and being away for me but I think now I'm back (first August day at home!) I'll log the few rides that I get out on. The day is good, the Berkshire trees are gently waving at me, the bike is calling my name.....except I sprained my arm yesterday toting a heavy guitar case all over town. Gently does it. I'd like to maintain the biking improvements I've made over the last few months.2

For the past 2 weeks, I have been biking everywhere. I got rid of the car and bought a bike. I usually do about 15-20 miles a day depending if I go anywhere for lunch or not. If I go anywhere after work, that is more added on.
add my IG for cycling goodness. Plan on discovering two more trails by the end of this week

I would also like to know your instagrams if you post cycling journeys.2 -

Riding your bike should not make your joints hurt, unless you have other underlying health issues. I would suggest looking to how your bike is adjusted. Is your seat high enough? Is your seat in the correct position forward/back in relation to your pedals? Are your handlebars adjusted correctly? Do a search on YouTube for how to adjust these to fit you better.

@Becky Everything tcaley said is correct. Shouldn't have joint pain, I'm guessing knees? If all is checked off above list then check posture. One of most common culprits is riding with knees at outward angle. This transfers the thigh power to the knees, knees to the ankles, ankles to bottom of the foot. Everything is under stress. Ride like your wearing a dress lol. knees together as much as center bar will allow. Thighs, knees, ankles all in line to foot pressure to the pedal. If no other this is the good reason for clip-in pedals. It limits your leg motion besides up and down.3
