You do know Diet Coke makes you gain weight? Right? Our bodies are so used to fake sugars that it tricks our bodies into thinking it's real sugar. :#

This is not true at all. Only surplus calories cause weight gain, and diet coke has zero calories. ;)

Wow, that stinks. For all they know you are diabetic and have to avoid sugar, what irresponsible people.

Yeah.. It's suspicious that when you asked about diet mixers, the first two she listed were NOT diet.

I can absolutely taste the difference between sugar and any kind of artificial sweetener. Unfortunately I hate artificial sweeteners, so I drink my bourbon on the rocks :D. No chance of misunderstandings that way tho!

I unfortunately am not at all a fan of straight spirits.

Think I'm just going to go to wine instead now. At about 130 calories a glass it's less calories than what I used to drink which was pints of beer.

A pint of lite beer has about that amount of calories and lasts a lot longer than a glass of wine..

Are you talking about an american "pint" or a proper pint? A glass of wine is about 130 calories (130ml/ 5floz) whereas a pint of light larger (british pint 568ml) is about 200-250 calories. Quite a big difference.

Also in the UK it's rare to find a 'lite' beer in any pub you woud want to be seen in. Just not common, much more likely to get a decent craft beer. (which would not be 130 kcal).

I was just in the UK and I drank pints of Bud Lite (sometimes Coors Lite) in almost every pub I went into (and I was in a lot of them). When I was younger you never saw those on draft but I guess they are catching on.
But yes, an English pint is 4oz more than an American pint. A half pint will still last you longer than a glass of wine (most pubs serve awful wine anyway)

fWIW a diabetic probably should avoid the alcohol as it messes w/ the blood sugar to begin with. My dad was an alcoholic and being diagnosed was the best thing that could have happened as it forced him to stop drinking. He lived another 10 years before heart disease/lung cancer took him away.

But as to the OP - glad you figured out what was wrong with your CICO numbers. Frustrating to find out you've been mislead, but hopefully a relief to have a logical answer.

And yes, when you're petite and/or have a low TDEE an extra 600 calories 1-2 times week can totally derail one's weight loss efforts.

You could bring your own Diet Coke.

You can get kicked out of a pub for stuff like that. You're not supposed to bring in your own stuff.

What if you spoke to the owner, said the staff had been telling you they been serving you diet when in fact they had not, and asked if you could bring in your own diet for them to use?

Drink Guinness. It's only like 120 calories and has the added benefit of filing you up.... Unless you are scared of some nonsensical fizzy reaction. Lol. I almost peed my pants when I saw that.

Guinness is 210 not 120 calorie per pint, not much less than a larger (Which I prefer). Really not a fan of Guinness at all.

Ah, we must have smaller servings here. A 12 oz Guinness is 125. I just looked it up. Still, a pint is 16oz, right? Wouldn't that be 166 calories?

Edited... I just saw that in England a pint is 20 oz. Well..that does make a difference. Good thing is you'd be so full you'd probably only drink 1. Although, I'd pick a different stout. I like Guinness ok, but there are much better stouts out there and all of them are pretty light. I like lager too...but more calories.
