Found out why my weight loss had stalled/ stopped.

...Every time I was ordering a drink at the pub they were giving me normal coke and not diet coke! So annoyed.
I specifically choose a spirit and diet coke as it makes it as 70 calorie drink rather than a 220 calorie drink. I asked the barmaid what diet mixers they have, they said coke, pepsi and diet coke.
Turns out this whole time they were just giving me normal because they don't have diet. So annoyed that they didn't even say "sorry is normal coke okay we don't have diet?" instead I trusted them to give me diet at my request and I've been going hundreds over my calories!
Furious.

Yeah. I can't taste the difference between cola drinks so i had no idea until it was pointed out to me.
For all the bar staff knew I could have been diabetic and requesting diet for a very good reason, and they didn't even bother to tell me what they were giving me was not what I was asking for.2 -
Hold on... you said she said that they have diet coke? I'm confused.2

You do know Diet Coke makes you gain weight? Right? Our bodies are so used to fake sugars that it tricks our bodies into thinking it's real sugar.4

Yeah.. It's suspicious that when you asked about diet mixers, the first two she listed were NOT diet.
I can absolutely taste the difference between sugar and any kind of artificial sweetener. Unfortunately I hate artificial sweeteners, so I drink my bourbon on the rocks . No chance of misunderstandings that way tho!3 -

I study biomedical science.
What you just said is complete nonsensical pseudoscience and there is no scientific evidence to back it up.
The artificial sweeteners can increase appetite, that's the only reason it is associated with weight gain...but you still need to eat/ drink more calories than you need. That's the only way your body can create more fat and muscle cells, it needs the energy from those excess calories.
Please stop spreading misinformation when you don't know what you are talking about.120 -

I unfortunately am not at all a fan of straight spirits.
Think I'm just going to go to wine instead now. At about 130 calories a glass it's less calories than what I used to drink which was pints of beer.

And carbonated drinks make you hungry. The fizz gets close to what triggers the chemical if you're full or not? And well...you eat when you drink anything fizzy. Beer, water, soda...bar makes money. Thanks America for the SUPER SIZE.0

lol...just what?40 -
I'm sorry that this happened to you. This is a great example for people who post here and claim they do everything right but can't lose weight, especially the posters who say they know the exact calorie counts of whatever restaurant food they eat and it can't be enough to undo their deficit.5

Chemistry PhD student here. I really hope you're trolling, because I'd hate to think that anyone could actually believe something so ridiculous as that is science.34 -
You know, that's really bad. I mean, what if you were a type 1 diabetic and asked for diet soda and got regular? your blood sugar would spike3

Yep. Pretty sad about it to be honest, really put the spanner in the works of socialising for me. As pretty much all social stuff with my friends involves the pub (so British).1 -
You could bring your own Diet Coke.2

You can get kicked out of a pub for stuff like that. You're not supposed to bring in your own stuff.

Yeah. I don't particularly disagree with the rule to be honest. They're a business and there to make money. If everyone started bringing their own stuff they'd lose a lot of money.3 -

Not true at all.2 -

I've often wondered how my husband can go a whole day without eating, but then i noticed this only happens when he's drinking beer. As soon as he switches to water late afternoon he starts to get ravenous. I think the fizzyness bloats him and makes him feel full. I don't drink beer or soda, so cant put it to the test.

Not if that can't be truthful with you. They've lost you as a customer, makes sense.0 -

True in that their not being truthful would usually put me off as a customer. But it's the local and where my group of friends prefer to go. So I'll still go there, but I'll be changing what I drink from now on to something like wine...might try some more spirits to see if I can do neat spirits but I've not found ones I like like that to be honest.0 -
Drink Guinness. It's only like 120 calories and has the added benefit of filing you up.... Unless you are scared of some nonsensical fizzy reaction. Lol. I almost peed my pants when I saw that.12

Have you tried club soda with spirits?0

Guinness is 210 not 120 calorie per pint, not much less than a larger (Which I prefer). Really not a fan of Guinness at all.1 -

I've heard Guiness is its own food group and people can just about live on the stuff.

Yep that's me, I can run a whole day on coke alone and not be hungry. I also drink mineral water and while its not the same as I will get hungry eventually esp if I am active it does certainly delay teh sense of hunger.0 -
