Walking is free. The rest is a waste of time & money.

Paying money to lift is not a waste of money. You get lots of benefits from that that you don't get from walking.22

lol...I think it's a preference thing...and a goal thing....I've spent a small amount of money over the years on fitness equipment (treadmill, elliptical, kettlebells etc) as well as my Fitbit, and i have zero regrets 80 pounds later....Obviously, I could just walk all day, and hopefully meet my calorie/workout goals that way, but it would be doubtful. Walking is a great activity, but it's not the be-all or end-all of fitness.3

Barefoot I presume?
Some of us like to be strong, some of us like to cycle, some of us enjoy other activities.....
Doing things you enjoy that also give you health benefits isn't a waste of either time or money IMHO.7 -
Well that's just like, your opinion man. I've wasted some money in my life, but not a cent has been wasted on my bikes.6

walking did not allow me to eat enough and feel good(using it to creating a greater calorie deficit)
running does. power yoga does.0 -

What exactly is "the rest"?
And is walking really free? I mean, where I live at least, I have to pay taxes, which pay for the sidewalks, trails, park upkeep, etc where I would walk...it's definitely not free. If I'd like to protect my feet, it's not easy to find free shoes.
Do pushups cost money?4 -
True but being able to overhead press people who just walk is priceless!!!
You do have a good point, fitness doesn't have to be expensive.

I love to stir up people's passions. Speak up folks!1

I love walking and hiking and walk a lot.
But ... I also love lifting. And I've recently signed up for a martial arts gym which I truly believe has been one of the most beneficial things I've done for myself (mentally, emotionally and socially) in a long time.
It's cool if you only want to walk but I don't think the money I'm spending on gym memberships is a waste at all. I consider it an investment in myself.1 -
Push-ups, sit-ups, jumping jacks are also free and are part of "the rest"?1

The whole point is that a great percentage of the population spend more money maintaining their car than their body.0

I suggest you take a course in economics and learn what the term "opportunity cost" means.
Hint: not a waste of time or money.4 -
Walking is all I need for what?
Can you point me to a walking plan that will get me to a 400lb bench press? Thanks.10 -

So maintaining your body is a waste of money, but maintaining your car isn't?1 -

I can buy another car if it fails, but this is the only body I have. Worth every penny!11 -

Ok, now you've started a whole other topic. How is this related to your first post? At all?4 -

Well, it's obvious that your purpose in life is to argue and disagree with most everything. So much for starting a spirited conversation. I'll leave you alone.0 -

Holy *kitten*.....1 -
Speaking up: The people who spend the least amount of money on fitness seem to be:
- Pious
- Unhappy
- Weak in every aspect except self denial

Not at all. Since you've only been here a few weeks, stick around.1

So you go out naked? You need money to buy clothing, and a minimum.
If you drive to your walking trail you need to buy a car, buy fuel, buy insurance, buy maintenance. Then sometimes buy a permit to your park/trail.
If you track your walks via a GPS enabled device you need a GPS tracker which cost money. Or if you use your phone you need a Cell Phone, and a plan, and possibly headphones to listen to music.
I don't care what your passion is when it comes to losing weight. But nothing is free, sir. Nothing.3 -

They aren't the ones that came on a fitness board and told people they were wasting money by doing anything other than walking...
If you are just talking about walking as transportation, that's different. And I prefer a bike.3 -

That would very much depend on what your goals and training objectives are. I'm a cyclist, so walking isn't going to do much for me...though it is a nice low impact activity. Also, it's not really free...the act itself is free...just as the act of riding itself is free...but you still need gear.0 -
Sometimes a spirited thread requires some disagreement in opinions...otherwise it would just be a bunch of people patting each others' backs...where's the fun in that?

What if you don't have legs?9

Some things are worth paying for.12 -
Trolling is free. The rest is a waste of brain space & time

That view would be worth paying for!! Gorgeous!0 -

Walk on your hands? Maybe that'd help with the 400 lb bench, too?8
