@Stoshew71 - No doubt you will be there in 2018, along with @kristinegift .
@MNLittleFinn - Keep working on your goals, and before you know it...
@Elise4270 -Big Sur is on my bucket list. Pittsburgh (my hometown), NYC and Big Sur. Let's do it!
Thanks all for the congrats. You guys are awesome!2 -
Got in four miles today. After power hour class yesterday, my legs were super sore. Mostly the inner area where the knee and thigh connect. Too many squats!
Running has loosened that all up, but I'm sure I'll be regretting it after sitting at my desk the next few hours.
No pain today. Think maybe it's the shoes. Wore my cushy altras today and no problems. May be time to retire the Nikes.2 -
Got in a final Philly run this AM, before hopping my train back to Pittsburgh. With the cooler morning weather, and breeze, my zone 2 HR was putting me at a 8:30 pace, which was pretty comfortable. Just did the southern Schuylkill route again from the hotel as I didn't want to get lost with a train to catch.
Planning my final 20 mile run for tomorrow before returning to Florida, as I'll appreciate the cooler weather for it and will want 9 recovery days before my Ironman 70.3 Augusta next weekend.

9/1 -- 3.25 miles
9/5 -- 6.25 miles
9/6 -- 3 miles
9/8 -- 5.1 miles
9/10 -- 1.7 miles (unscheduled)
9/11 -- 4.1 miles
9/13 -- skipped
9/15 -- 6.25 miles
29.65/50
Today's run was the halfway run of my scheduled runs, so I have 6 remaining. Since I skipped Tuesday's run due to life and not feeling up to it, I tried to make up for it today and did 10K (my second full 10K!) to try and keep me on my average.
So now I need 20 more miles in the next 6 runs, which is a nice tidy 3.5 per run, roughly. Easily enough done as long as I don't skip any again, or make up for it if I do.
The hills in the 10K were a bit tough for me today, but I did it anyway. I'm pretty pleased with that.1 -
@kristinegift @skippygirlsmom Just found out this morning that I will be travelling to NJ on business next week.
Plans are to arrive in Newark Monday afternoon and head back home Wednesday night. I have business to deal with Tuesday morning at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst and hopefully I don't have to go back Wednesday morning.
All I am waiting for now is my final authorization from contracts and I get to book my flight.2 -

Beautiful night for a run! It was mid-70s instead of low-90s for the first time in ages! And yet we had one of the smallest groups in weeks. Then again, school just started and we had a huge run last week with our Pub Run, so I'll give them a pass Felt surprisingly good for a double plus having run 6 days in a row. Great start to my first OFFICIAL marathon training week post-calf strain! Woo!
Upcoming Races:
9/11 LVHN Via Half-Marathon DONE!
10/8: Coe College Homecoming 5k

9/15 - 1.9 miles
Week so far: 4.5 miles
Month so far:
Today I felt like I was running on giraffe legs - every movement felt wobbly and wrong. I don't know what is going on but maybe I'm overcompensating for the pain I was having and adjusting my gait in some weird way. Then I got a phone call I needed to take so I ended up cutting it short and walking the rest of the way home.1 -

I broke a leg playing hockey 3 days before a family vacation to Disney. We were fortunately able to reschedule 6 weeks later but I was still on crutches. Doing the whole Epcot loop on them sucks, and is much harder work than running. I honestly can say I've felt your pain. When I broke my ankle a few years earlier, I was able to use a knee scooter, which is basically the best invention ever for anyone who's active. Is one of those an option for you?0 -

9/14 – extra rest day
9/15 – 2.07 warmup
9/16 – rest day
September total to date – 88.83
Nominal Challenge Goal – 200 miles
Real Goals: Manage Rochester Marathon well as a race, recover quickly.
Today's notes – The wonky calf was better today, so I went to the club workout. It felt wonky again in the last half mile of the warmup, so I decided to ditch the scheduled workout of 20 minutes easy, 10 minutes MP, 10 minutes easy in favor of an easy run and possibly bail out early.
Got talking to another experienced runner who was only doing easy stuff, and he urged me to just quit for the day. "You've been running hard a lot lately. I saw you finish Oak Tree, and you were flying. Right now, rest will help you more at Rochester than running."
He was right. I thanked him for the advice, because I'd been thinking about bailing anyway and the feedback helped. I mentioned that I'm stupider for myself than I am for other runners. "Yeah, I'm the same way."
So I walked over and watched the bulk of the club do their 3 x (800m T, 800m I, 3 minutes recovery), chatted with some people, talked to Coach about race day strategy, and came home. I'm posting tomorrow as a rest day because I need to keep it a rest day. Maybe I'll run the 20 minutes easy that's scheduled for Saturday, maybe Saturday will be a rest day as well.
I seem to remember that I was worried about both ankles before Boston; I hope the worry about my left upper ankle/lower calf turns out to be no more significant than my ankles were for Boston. At least I know that taper crazies mean I can't take my perceptions at face value.
Oh, and for all you folks trying for Boston: The club has a 56 year old who beat his target by 9:44 at Erie. The only other time he BQ'd (at a younger age), he beat the target by 8 seconds and missed the cutoff. We also have a 65 year old who beat his target by 14 minutes and change at Erie, after assuming for years that Boston was beyond his reach.
It can happen.

@RespectTheKitty I hated running with my old glasses because they'd keep sliding down my nose, so I'd usually just take them off beforehand. Though, without glasses at night I'd get disoriented and take wrong turns in the park, which was bad. I recently got new glasses (still plastic frames, but thinner and tighter) and they stay on a lot better, though rain or sweat or any kind of water on the lenses is still super irritating. Maybe contact lenses are better for sports(?), but the idea of poking contacts into my eyes is too unpleasant for me to ever try them.
@chassp8pooh Congrats on 10k distance!

9/3 6.2 miles, split into two equal runs as I started out way too fast.

No, since I'm on crutches for a hip issue. Nice thought though!0 -
I just want to run already In other news, I was able to walk for 12 minutes on the treadmill today without any shin pain so that's at least a step towards running!

Very funny! Sharing.
Yeah, I draw the line at Vibrams too.1 -
My first run after a week of tonsillitis this morning. I managed 2 miles and it was really hard, my throat started hurting again. That's 13.2 miles for the month so far, my easy goal of 30 miles is now looking unlikely. On a plus though, I got to run in my new shoes2

9/01 ..... 3.2
9/02 ........... Rest
9/03 ..... 3.3
9/04 ........... Rest
9/05 ........... Hiked 6 miles
9/06 ........... Walked 6 miles with a friend
9/07 ..... 2.3 Easy run then walked, DOMS was a little much to ignore
9/08 ........... Rest
9/09 ........... Rest
9/10 ..... 3.2 With DD. She walked a little more than last time but I am still happy with what she put in.
9/11 ..... 5.0 With DH. I was a little surprised with the pace: felt easy at ~10:30 min/mile, it was usually 11-12 for me
9/12 ........... Rest
9/13 ..... 3.1 With DH again. It was later at night and we wanted to get it done. We ended up running more like a tempo speed. I threw in a fast (for me) finish thinking, I probably wouldn't be able to run fast for next few weeks after the blood donation...
9/14 ........... Rest - donated blood today. Will focus on having more iron rich food and hope the run tomorrow would not be too much of a suffering...
9/15 ..... 3.1 Ran too fast in the beginning. I need to work on slowing down again...
Total Miles: 23.2

"17. At the first sign that your favorite running shoe might be discontinued you buy as many pairs as you can find."
I know a few people around here that do that... not to name names, but they know who they are!!4 -
06/09 3 miles not all running but took same effort
07/09 3 miles, I'm going to call it a recovery run as that's what it was for me!
08/09 3 miles Its was really windy so when the wind was behind me it was like running on air but when it was against me it was like someone was pulling me backwards. Still better than too hot! I can feel my ankle improving.
15/09 3 miles
16/09 3 miles
I've spent the past 2.5 hours catching up on all the posts (it's been a week) and it's been very entertaining. From a dodgy gunman to having the "runs" when running. I better get some work done or I'll have to work over the weekend!4 -
9/1- Rest
9/2- 4.13
9/3- 10.03
9/4- 3.02
9/5- Rest driving home from visiting family

9/14- 4.06
9/15- 8.88
9/16-REST
Total: 78.37/115
Today's notes: Uncharacteristically for this training cycle, I'm resting the day before my long run. I had been thinking about it anyway, since I'm going to end up with like 33 miles this week, when I'm supposed to be tapering, then I was exhausted last night and decided to for sure.
My Run Brain is mad at me, but the rest of me is happy. I think I have a cold coming on, and I REALLY NEED to be healthy for my HM in 8 days. I worked my *kitten* off this training cycle, so the logical side of me won out, and I slept in until 0550 today.....only to feel more tired than on a run day. Go figure,
Have a Fantabulous Friday run peoples!2
