@skippygirlsmom - my thoughts are with you and Skip!1 -
Between work, traveling for work and traveling for fun I am 20+ pages behind. I am not going to get caight up but have read some of the posts. I won't make my goal for the month but I had a great time running Beat the Blerch with my daughter and having a couple of hilly, recovery runs in Seattle before we headed to Victoria BC for a few days of relaxing. In the 3 days we were there we walked everywhere and ended up at well over 20 miles but I am not counting that in my running total. I took running clothes but didn't make it out for a run while we were there.
Pictures below from the race, being chased by the Blerch, a sign about the couches along the course (yes you could sit down and relax with a Blerch) and some of the the swag. It was fun and crazy with donut eating contests and give aways, cake and nutella sandwiches on the course and beer afterwards. I was sure there would be lots of sick runners but we didn't see too many. The course was muddy from the previous day's rain but we lucked out in the weather department as we had partly cloudy and cool weather. The only issue I had was with the gravel and 2-3in river rocks that made up quite a bit of the trail we ran. The rocks made my feet feel bruised but the alternative, where there was any, was mud. Also I am so used to running at my pace that running at my daughter's much slower pace was SO difficult, it was quite exhausting in its own way. We had a blast though and will likely sign up to run it again. I am hoping between then and now she will develop more speed - maybe she will even have to slow down to run with me
Also we got to meet Matthew Inman (aka The Oatmeal) at packet pickup and running on the course!

Day 8 of no running. The test this morning hurt a different part of the calf, and the test this afternoon made my shin hurt, of all places. Tomorrow I'll ask the PT what the hurt moving around means.
I've noticed this isn't as hard emotionally as previous week+ long stretches of No Running have been. What's different? Oh, yeah. I'm retired. When I was working, No Running was very hard because it took away my coping mechanism for stress at work. Now, no stress at work. It's an improvement.
Still, I'd rather be running. I'll get there; for the past two days, at least I've been able to walk enough to get my 12K steps in.5 -
Yes, I did have my emergency stress run this evening. And I killed just about every PR I have. I was consistently under 12 minutes per mile for the first time. Ran 5k in 35:50 and four miles in 47:09, which is way under my previous best. I guess a bit of stress is good for something.
Edit: OMG my hamstrings are sore. I definitely need to take a rest day tomorrow.

@_nikkiwolf_ This just got me thinking, would it be completely out of line if we start a discussion thread under the group on strength training progress? I could use some company I vaguely recall you may be using YAYOG, is that right? I am using the App but customized the workout.0 -

@Orphia will you be my personal trainer? Lol! I'll just eat and do what you do the previous day by your diary. Oh wait, I'm still mastering the distance to the coffee maker....
Seriously, thanks for sharing your progress. Very motivating.
@Elise4270 Hahahaha! Thanks. I love having an open diary. I get to shock people.
I'm sure some of the "sugar addiction" proponents would also freak out if they had a look.
I just eat what I feel like, within my calorie limit. This includes making room for alcohol and dessert. I get to eat lots of everything! I don't pay much attention to the numbers, I just try to stay around the limit.
I did notice I'd eaten 11,000 kj (2600 calories) the other day and was still under.

Easy run in the dark and the drizzle. I have to tell you guys though... running in the dark + an overactive imagination can lead to some funny moments, or terrifying ones. A few weeks ago, @skippygirlsmom mentioned rumors of someone dressed as a clown standing around in the forest in the dark. Well, this morning I'm running along and I see what my mind interprets as a man standing on the sidewalk by the trees (it's really shadowy, I was in the road to benefit from street lights), wearing dark pants and a white overall-type top, totally still and creepy. My heart starts pounding, very flight v. fight style, and I move out to the middle of the road (no traffic!) to be as far away from this guy as possible.
And then this guy turns out to be a white/silver electrical box on a power line pole. And I am an idiot.
I actually had to stop running half a mile later because the adrenaline had my legs shaking and I was FLYING downhill, and today is an easy, recovery day... not a speed work day
So hope you enjoyed my moment of terror. Happy Tuesday!

Woke up this morning, and my quads feel just fine! My cold is still kicking my rear, so I'm not sure if I'll make my return to running tomorrow or not. If I do, it will be an easy 3 miles or so, just enough to get me over my mileage goal for the month. Goal is to get back into base building training next week with the new month. Reassessing my training, and I'm planning on slowing down a lot, and working on keeping the 80/20 split much better this time around.2 -
9/1 - 4 miles. Weather was beautiful! Had to cut it short because I hit snooze too many times.
9/2 - Unplanned rest day. Apparently yesterday's snoozing was due to impending illness. First virus of the new school year.
9/3 - 8.09 mile group run. Again, beautiful weather! Plus, virus seems gone.
9/4 - Normal rest day. Way overate at family picnic.
9/5 - 5.06 miles.
9/6 - Bodypump class, followed by Abs/Core class.
9/7 - 4.03 hot, humid, sticky miles...summer is not over yet!
9/8 - 5.2 miles at Trek/treadmill class.
9/9 - Managed to turn off my alarm and oversleep by 2 hours = no run or spin class
9/10 - 9.4 mile group run. Another gorgeous morning for a run!
9/11 - Insanely busy church/family activity day.
9/12 - 4.7 miles. Getting spoiled by this weather.
9/13 - Life got in the way.
9/14 - 5.08 miles...seriously, this weather is fantastic for running!
9/15 - 4.06 miles. Legs felt like bags of wet sand.
9/16 - Spin Class. Missed it the last two weeks, so it felt difficult in a good way.
9/17 - 3.33 miles. Short run before race tomorrow.
9/18 - 10.15 miles. Capital Pursuit 10-Mile. Love this race! "Serious" runners for the most part, so it tends to be fast. Weather was beautiful, if a bit hot the last two miles. Time about what I expected based on my training level the last few months. Loved it!
9/19 - Rest day. Very sore.
9/20 - 5.05 miles. Beautiful morning.
9/21 - 4.02 humid, sticky miles. Someone forgot to tell Mother Nature that summer's over!
9/22 - 5.02 miles. First day of fall...77° and humid at 5:00 a.m.!
9/23 - Spin Class.
9/24 - 4.75 miles. Was supposed to be 11 mile group run at 6:00, but family life got in the way. By the time I went out, it was 89°...just didn't have it in me.
9/25 - Rest day.
9/26 - 5.02 miles. Gorgeous morning! Fall seems to have arrived!
9/27 - 4.36 miles. Fabulous weather, again!
