If people lose about 10-12 pounds of water weight with disciplined dieting...

How much water weight people lose is highly variable and based on things like "were you eating piles of sugary/salty foods before and have cut way down on that?" and "where were you in your cycle when you started?" Some people lose 10-12 pounds. Others lose 3-5 pounds. Others were already eating healthy and exercising and don't really lose anything. It's so variable that you don't want to plan for it; just enjoy it if/when it happens.

Heya- seeing all the crazy comments -wow. I agree you want sustainable and healthy. But I also know you want to drop that big chunk at first. That's where I am and here's what I'm doing -and it's working. FYI I'm obese, started at 230 and 5'7".

WALK a lot, at a good clip and sweat. At least an hour a day. Eat about 80% raw foods (but no juice) like fruits and raw veg all thru day and then healthy dinner. I'm plant based but whatever works. I'm hanging between 1,000 and 1,200 cal/day, which is NOT unhealthy- it's light yes but I'm getting great nutrition. Probably a lot of people will boo my suggestion too but I'm keeping on it till I'm out of the obese category (191 for me) then will slow my roll. FYI I've lost the first 20 fast but won't say how fast so I'm not reported.

Thanks for sharing your experience! Low calories isn't the only way to more effective weight loss. And seeing results a little faster in the beginning is incredibly motivating. I know what you mean about getting out of the obese category!

Intermittent fasting works for me I think. I skip breakfast and eat a late lunch. I drink coffee with butter a little after I get up. And I take vitamins. So much research now (and I went to a lecture by a prominent academic/scientist) shows that intermittent fasting has many benefits. And calories spread over a day arent' the same as calories consumed in a shorter amount of time.

I am a few pounds shy of the 35lb loss mark. Started April 1st at 182lbs. It took me 5 1/2 months at 1200/day and alternating days of treadmill/weights and yoga. Can't even IMAGINE how I could've done it any more quickly....
