I only did the short day trip, I was young (in my early teens) at the time, but it was easy for me. I will always remember it, so I recommend it. Plus there are some other nice lakes and waterfalls in the area, I believe.

There's a Devils Postpile in Washington, too, and it's also columnar basalt, and surrounded by pondo pines.
I didn't even realize there was one in CA.
