    @FindingCynSporation That's the attitude - "it's a competition versus myself".

Remember there is always someone who can run further, lift more, swim longer etc, etc.

If you go through the very first post its all laid out - even showing how to setup a running/activity ticker.
Welcome to Runners Annoymous - where we encourage our friends addiction with all things Running.
Did someone just say Shoe Sale? B)

    I know it's a typo, but I kinda like being a Runners Annoy-ment!

Started reading/lookimg at 80/20, to get ideas for winter. Just gonna say this. If I end up doing the HM 2 plan by Fitzgerald for my next HM, it looks like a beast

Not going according to plan here lol. Discovered that I have very low iron levels plus my beloved children have given me a bug. Perfect timing with Australia in six days time.

Struggled big time with today's run. And last night's swim too lol.

@louubelle16 My first two half marathons I just did on my own at home, so no bling for me.

I've also done two shorter distance events with no medals or anything.

The Beat the Blerch Virtual HM's bling made up for that!

Now you mention it, the Bloody Long Walk 35 km walk doesn't have any bling, I don't think.

    Hmm, here's a question...

What's a good reward to buy for running?

    Beautiful photos!! Lovely!

    Rewards for Running:
I would suggest a $200 shopping trip to the workout store of your choice!
Academy or Sun and Ski... I would choose Sports Authority, but they went out of business.
    New Running Shoes
    New workout clothes
    A new dress

I tend to like experiences as rewards rather than objects.
    So....
    A spa Day
A weekend away at a resort with your sweetie.
Concert Tickets to see your favorite musician
Tickets to rent jet skis at the beach
    Go to a magic show
    Go do indoor ski diving!
Take a dinner cruise on the river
Go see your favorite comedian do live stand up
or you could volunteer at an animal shelter. its hard work, but rewarding

@vs_shine THAT is a great list!

Thanks, and thanks to everyone else with suggestions.

@Orphia what do you really want or need? @vs_shine has some pretty good ideas.

Change of season is upon us, you too right? So more gear? New gear? I didn't deserve it but I bought a Groupon for Botox haha! I have a running fund that's a nice reward. Just there when you want it.

Maybe a run-cation? There are running camps? You definitely deserve something special.

    Thanks! xx

My running/treat fund is going towards the trip to do the Bloody Long Walk.

Hopefully I'll have enough left to treat myself to a sports massage during the 12 days I'm having as holiday at the time, and maybe something material.

    10/3 - 1.8 miles, 18.2 to go

Wk5 day3 of C25K, so my first time running 20min straight in quite a while. I was feeling unstoppable for the first 14 minutes, then my right hip started whining. Wah wah wah. I crouched a bit and had to go to a teeny tiny stride to shut it up. Happily I was in my basement so no witnesses.

@goldthistime Yay for running 20 minutes! Love that program.

Hmm, that workout was just around the time during C25K that I started having hip tendon pain, late last year.

I struggled along for a month or two, resting and testing, but then a trip to the physio (who referred me to a podiatrist) led me to getting orthotics made, and that has made a fabulous difference. Can't recommend physio/podiatry enough.

Do you have flat feet, and/or one leg longer than the other? That was the cause of my hip pain.

@skippygirlsmom You have an amazing daughter, and man, you just blew me away with your truly awesome response to skippy's news. My eyes are a bit misty just thinking about it.

@emmab0902 So sorry to hear you're poorly! Bravo for still running and swimming... that's amazing!

Were you feeling bad with low iron levels? You seem to achieve a lot despite that.

Hoping hard you're better soon. What's "Australia"? Sorry if you've explained already.

Australia is for the Australasian Police and Emergency Services Games. I'm a psychologist who works for the police and I'm competing in the swimming.

Yes was starting to feel knackered but have just started iron tablets so hoping for a miracle. The other issue is I have several rotator cuff tears and a fraying bicep tendon, and it feels like the latter isn't far off rupturing! :open_mouth:

Wow, kudos on your job. Much respect.

Hoping hard that your poorliness is causing you to worry too much and that in actual fact you're not as bad as you think. xooo Do what the doctors and specialists tell you, and I prescribe lots of pampering!

I thought you all would get a kick out of the PRs my Garmin congratulated me on this morning... someone got a glitch and/or left her GPS watch on in the car...

@kristinegift - By my reckoning 45seconds per mile is 80mph/128kmh. Hope you weren't breaking any speed limits - lol!

It's definitely a glitch then because we were going 25-30 mph in a school zone! My pace chart also doesn't reflect a 45 second mile nor do my splits so I conclude that Garmin is just crazy.

Thank you for your comments Orphia. It's nice to feel so welcomed into what is obviously a tight knit community. To answer your questions, as far as I know my legs are the same length. My feet aren't flat, but perhaps falling a little. I had a nasty bout of metatarsalgia that I saw a podiatrist for a couple years ago. I am going to pursue physio, I promise.

PS. Please tell me there is no blood involved in this Bloody Long Walk.

    10/1- 4.04 miles
    10/2- Rest/Travel day
    10/3- 3.47
    10/4- 5.03

    Total: 12.55/60

Today's notes: another zone 2 run. HR got up to 160, but that was because of a coughing/choking fit at the top of a hill I had just climbed. Average HR was 148, so a little high, but a solid zone 2 run. Really starting to see a pattern. 10:15-10:40 average pace seems to be just right for keeping zone 2.

oh, and on a side note, I put my first pair of running shoes over 200 miles on this run!

I was in NYC this past weekend visiting daughter and had a great time! Besides two runs we did a ton of walking and I am really sore from all that walking. Weather was in the 60s ... aka heaven to me. I missed all the October posts so far but trying to catch up.

@skippygirlsmom - I think it's great that Skip realized what she wanted and felt comfortable letting you know! It is a lot of pressure. I've already told you how my daughter turned down full rides to play at an Ivy (no athletic scholarships), so she could focus on academics. Turns out even there, it is a full time job! So after two years she stopped playing and never regretted it.

@elise4270 - wait... you ran? I thought you still had crutches?

I got the most amazing roller/massager this weekend:
    https://www.jackrabbit.com/accessories/injury-prevention-recovery/massage-stretching/roll-recovery-r8-massage-roller-rr-8.html

When I was running with my daughter Saturday she said "prepare to be amazed at my new device!" When we got back to her apartment she showed me it and had me try it. I was amazed. She said "I was going to buy you one but you said you didn't want anything!" True- I just don't want/need anything -- unless it is running/biking related! I didn't tell her that little caveat. So while we were out walking around we were close to the NY Running Store and I decided to go get one. And while we were there and I was looking at sale items, my daughter runs over and says "they have the Garmin you want!".

I had ordered it the Garmin Fenix 3 in white gold from Amazon a month ago and they cancelled the order after 3 weeks because I guess the white one is backordered. Every site I went to said it would be weeks before it would be shipped or not available. So I gave up and had been studying other Garmins.

    https://www.rei.com/product/897924/garmin-fenix-3-sapphire-whitegold-gps-watch

So it was a rather expensive trip to the running store! And I didn't even leave with shoes!
But, I had been planning on buying it for months and the roller thing is definitely worth it.

    10/1 - 5.1 miles
    10.2 - 7.3 miles

I know. You and Kristine would break the bank on massages!

@ddmom0811 Yes I ran intermittently for 1.92 miles. It was great. Until the next day when I was incredibly stiff and sore in my back. But so worth it.

    @7lenny7 and @kristinegift

Didn't mean to say someone WOULD say anything, but I've gotten used to the comments over the past year. I mentioned it because I want to find a way into the group and it's a very integral part of who I am. I like getting it out of the way quickly. *smile*

That being said, running and eating is definitely a chore now. I'm lucky if I get 1000 calories most days (restricted as to how much I can take in at once), and know I need to up it greatly at this point if I want to continue to run and build muscle instead of tearing it down. So it's an interesting juggling act!

Still on Week 3, Day 2...I skipped the gym yesterday, so will definitely get it in today!

    Thanks for the welcomes!
