I'm taking an imaginary Walk Across Texas: 857 miles down I-10, from the Louisiana border to El Paso. Since June 1st, I have walked 438.78 miles. Just passed: Roosevelt, TX (mile 437). Next stop: Sonora, TX (mile 475).

michelleepotter-how are you doing the imaginary walk across Texas. Did you just make it up yourself or is there a website you used or something? I would love to do something like this.

I'm sorry I never answered this. I didn't see it until just now. I follow a page on Facebook that posts interesting photos and trivia about Texas. They posted a sign from the Texas-Lousiana border on I-10 that shows the distance to El Paso:

I have been basing my walk on this. I use Google maps to figure out distances. First I bookmarked this map, which shows the route from the border to El Paso, via I-10 (it's two miles shorter than what the sign says, but I figure that's not a big deal):

    https://www.google.com/maps/dir/30.1274399,-93.7015205/El+Paso,+TX/@30.7967454,-109.1063478,5z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m8!4m7!1m0!1m5!1m1!1s0x86e73f8bc5fe3b69:0xe39184e3ab9d0222!2m2!1d-106.4850217!2d31.7618778

Then I looked at the first town on the route, and searched for the distance from my starting point to that town. Every time I reach a town, I look for the next one (sometimes I skip over small or obscure towns, especially if they're very close together, and look for towns I'm familiar with), and figure out the distance from the starting point. Every day I look at my total distance walked, and compare with my bookmarked map.
