Welcome to our November Cycling Thread!

If you are new to posting on this thread, or if you are new to cycling, We welcome you! If you are returning from a previous thread, We welcome you, too.

This thread is for anyone who rides a bike. Do you bike to work? Do you pull your children to the park? So you ride weekends? Do you spin, at home or the gym? Do you race crits, ironman, or centuries? Or, are you just starting out and remembering how much fun you had biking when you were a kid? However you choose to push your pedal, you are welcome on this thread.

(Hope I'm not stepping on any toes, but I couldn't see a November thread, so here one is)

I'm still suffering from the virus that truncated my October cycling, so haven't managed to log any miles at all yet. However, I'm going to put a stake in the ground and aim for 300 miles for November, which should take me over the line for my annual target as well

Today (Nov 1) I climbed 2,000 feet. I think my Garmin short changes me on calories though.
Garmin says approx 700. I usually give myself 10 cal per minute for regular climbing. That would be more like 1,000 cals.
But if I am in HR zone 4 or 5 I allocate 13. But no way can I climb in those zones for the duration of a 2,000 foot climb.
My wife says I should just take the lowball and that way I will lose faster. I think I want BMI < 20.
I don't go for hard every day. Alternating days my knee needs R&R.

Climbing today I seen maybe 10 deer and some wild turkeys. If I stop to get a picture they run off before my camera will "boot." If I don't stop they ignore me. I climb at like 4 mph. I need a faster acting camera.
I descend at like 25 or 30. I was descending and some deer ran right out in front of me.
It was windy and cold at 10,000 feet. I was soaked with sweat. I have to change clothes in order to descend comfortably. Sometimes I carry dry clothes in my pack. Not the case today. I didn't think it would be cold.
Best I could do was take my clothes off and turn them inside out. You know what I mean. Dry(er) outer layer goes next to skin. Wet layer goes outside. Put on windbreaker.
Brrr. Windy and cold for my changing.
    Pretty fun hobby eh?
Don't know how riding for November will pan out. In the past I usually just did spin in winter months.
Strava has a challenge for 8,000 meters of climbing, I guess that is 26,000 feet. It is 1000 meter less than October challenge.
So 2,000 down 24,000 to go.
I don't know if I will track mileage. My rides are only like 10 to 14 miles round trip. I get average speed like 6 mph.

@bocasdelbob, you are a climbing beast. Maybe carry a newspaper with you like they do on the Tour de France to put under their jersey to break the wind?

I'm in for November too! Probably indoors for some of it, and in Italy without a bike for some of it, but hey. @bocasdelbob , I may take your example as inspiration to start trying to love the Berkshire hills. Perhaps if I had an elevation calculator I could take some pride in being able to go up them, now that I can; a few months ago I had no chance with them at all. Progress!

I'm in again. Don't think I'll set a goal this month, as I haven't been doing very good at meeting them the last couple of months. I'll just do what I can and be happy with that. Going in to the winter months here in Arkansas, it will be getting dark as soon as I get home from work. I have lights, so should be able to continue outdoor riding. There will probably be some indoor riding as well this winter. I don't ride when there is ice/snow on the street, if we even get any this year. It has been an incredibly warm fall.

My goal for the last two months of the year is 526.3 miles (to take me to 4000 for the year) but that's very weather dependant.

Every year my Raynaud's seems to get worse and it's even kicking in while I'm sitting in the office at work - one pink hand, one white hand!

Will do some longer sessions indoors but will try and take my own saddle in. The unisex saddle on the WattBike at my gym is more like an instrument of torture.
Unisex - more like no sex!

Here I sit looking out the window wondering if this rain is going to turn into too much rain.
Yesterday I just went around the block a few times. Luckily that block has some climb to it so if I go around it 15 times or so I get 1,000 feet of climb.

    Nov 3 12 miles - climb 1,000 feet

    My Nov stats
    30.1mi 4h 3m 3,270ft

30 miles in 4 hours doesn't make me a speed demon but mountain bikers get that.

No outdoor cycling at all this week (apart from station commutes, which I don't count...).
Just too cold for my delicate pinkies! :(

21 miles on an eSpinning bike
    27.1 miles on a WattbikePro

    Total 48.1

Starting to swap focus from cycling to strength training for the next few months.

cycling will be over here soon as the roads have no bike lanes and once it snows or gets icy they dont treat the roads as well as they should(they cinder instead of salt most times). so its too dangerous to ride in cold weather here.

On my Saturday ride, my legs just felt very heavy. Didn't have any speed available, felt like I was slogging my way through the whole ride. One thing I can think of is that I didn't get enough sleep the night before. Only got 6 hours, usually get 9 - 10. Also, passed a milestone on my Saturday ride. I broke through the 8,000 mile mark for total distance of rides in the last four years.

    11/01 - 14.94
    11/02 - 13.24
    11/03 - 09.30

    Mon 07 - 26.31 miles

    MTD 34.92 / 300, YTD 2418.36 / 2500

Finally getting some miles on the board for this month, with my first commuting day. Bitterly cold in the morning and even colder in the evening - bottomed out at -0.5 degrees C with 3 or 4 more degrees of wind chill; but I was roastie-toastie in multiple layers, with the exception of my toes for the last 15 minutes, which started to feel the cold even through overshooes and 2 pairs of socks.

Thankful today for the disk brakes when some blind old bat pulled out of a side road right in front of me - and didn't show any signs of noticing me even after the near miss and my loud educational explanation of their short-comings. I guess the 2 flashing lights, one continuous light, and the fluorescent & reflective bright yellow jacket all render me invisible.

I climbed 2,000 feet both today and yesterday so I am at 7,650 for Nov. so far. Roughly 19,000 to go for the Strava merit badge.

Dark conditions, though on a lighted urban road. My lights are very bright - they illuminate road signs etc for 20+ yeards in front. There's no way I can be missed... always assuming anyone bothers to look at all

I thought that "There's no way I can be missed" on a bright summer's day, dressed in bright red, bright flashing front light and a car drove straight into me.
Luckily I went over the top of the car and was able to pick myself up - and pick the bike up in two pieces!

I think it sunk in with the driver when I said "if you can miss seeing me then one day you will kill a child".....
