Where are you getting all these ideas?
It's almost like you're going through a list of weight loss myths one at a time here and in the Food/Nutrition forum.23 -
Arrange your meals however you want. Focus on daily calories.5

I do
Then you've got it.2 -
As stated in your other thread, it doesn't matter what time you eat. Some people like a big breakfast and are happy with a light evening meal. People like me aren't big breakfast eaters, and have a large meal at the end of the day as a social/family thing. It is completely personal preference.8

Good
So are you asking whether that advice is sound?
The answer is it depends on whether eating like that helps you to stick to your calorie allowance7 -
I've heard that as well. Most other cultures beyond western cultures eat very large midday meals and smaller dinners, so that's probably why. In regards to weight loss I think it's baloney, mostly, but I see the reasoning as we typically tend to overeat during dinner and evening hours. My thought is this is due to being more relaxed at home or going out to a restaurant you really like and therefore being a little less restricting. Not a lot of people eat huge steaks for lunch, for example. Dinner seems to be America's pleasure meal.0

Me too. I was just told doing it the way i asked it better for weight loss.0 -
Well, just like we told you in your thread: "Is it okay to eat after 6pm" ... eat whenever you want to eat. Do whatever works for you. And you may need to experiment to find out what works for you.7

No. Again, there is no 'better' time to eat for weight loss. It does not matter. Not after 6, not before 6, not light in the mornings, or light in the evenings, it does not matter.4 -

I eat about 75% of my daily calories after 8pm and typically go to bed around 11pm. It truly doesn't matter when or how often you eat.2
-
You've asked a variation on this question three times now. As long as your calories remain equal, meal timing and meal patterns should not affect your weight loss. They may affect how you feel through the day, but that is highly individual and you should eat in whatever pattern makes you feel the best. Is there something we can say that will make you feel easier about this?13
-
I don't start eating until about 10:30 am, and the bulk of my calories are consumed after 6 pm.
That works for me and I know that because I've experimented with eating at different times and have discovered for myself that eating breakfast first thing in the morning triggers my appetite, and I am very hungry for the rest of the day. My husband has also experimented with eating at different times, and he has discovered that eating breakfast first thing in the morning works well for him ... and he'll eat less in the evening.
We're all different. You've got to figure out what works for you. There is no single right way to do it ... except this: If you want to lose weight, eat fewer calories than you burn.

I just confronted him on what everyone said and he said if you eat alot late your body will turn that calorie energy into stored fat because you're not burning it1

I've lost my weight eating most of my calories later in the day. Many others have too.
You can do what you want but it is untrue that eating later will cause you to gain if you stick to your calorie deficit.2 -

He's. Wrong. Completely wrong. That's an old wives tale and has been complexly debunked.
Coz science.
But you know what? Believe who you want. You seem determined to root out every "Weird tip or trick" that anyone has ever made a buck off and buy into it. But if you actually want to lose weight and keep it off, quit buying into every bit of derp you come across on Pintrest.21 -

Don't believe everything you hear. Do believe in science.

I didn't say i believed it. I was asking what others thought.0 -

Wtf. I am simply asking questions. Did you see me say i believe him? Smh1 -
Dude with decent bodies follows some derp process, fad or program and gets results
Hence derp process, fad or program is effective
Right?
If that's as far as you take it then yes ..it works
The question is why?
It's because calories are controlled through the "eating light" part
It's unscientific ...but the bedrock of it is science
Calories in less than calories out =weight loss
You can make up whatever stories comfort you and help you adhere
Does not give it any additional truth
Does not prove it the most effective way
Does not mean you will be able to do it that way

It's not. He's wrong. The fact that he's fit means nothing. Don't let it interfere with your friendship (if that's what y'all have). You can smile, nod and do your own thing, never to discuss it again, or you can believe it and go with it. Maybe it will work for you. Maybe it won't. Up to you.
The thing is, everyone you know and love will think they have the answer based on what they saw on Dr Oz or read in a women's magazine. They'll mostly be wrong. The basis of weight loss is simple math. Not meal timing. Not macro timing. Not clean eating. Not smoothies or detoxes. Math. And just because you load the numbers into the equation at different times of the day, if the numbers stay the same, the outcome will be the same.9 -

Nah, just stick to your calories and you should be fine...that's all that you need to do.rikkejanell2014 wrote: »I just confronted him on what everyone said and he said if you eat alot late your body will turn that calorie energy into stored fat because you're not burning it
It's not true. I eat right before sleep (under my calorie goal) and almost 100lbs down... your body has no idea what time it is, and the metabolism runs 24/7. I would be fatter if what your friend said was true.5 -
rikkejanell2014 wrote: »I just confronted him on what everyone said and he said if you eat alot late your body will turn that calorie energy into stored fat because you're not burning it
Ask him what his body was burning then through rest of the day not eating as much to store up so much food for eating late.
And for the whole day not eating that much you burned a bunch of extra fat and any workouts used up muscle glucose stores and your liver has gotten depleted too keeping blood sugar up.
So now you eat late and the carbs go to refill those stores, and maybe some of the fat you eat goes back to fat - but you burned more during the day anyway, so you lost some.
So by the end of the discussion - it worked out the same.
He eats his big breakfast - there's only some liver stores to refill, so some carbs there, fat goes to fat, some is used for energy from the food rather than pulled from fat stores, but after 4-5 hrs he's back to the state you are in after 2-3 hours eating a lite breakfast. And since such a big meal for what his body really needs right then, those excess carbs not used for energy in that time range - those go to fat too.7
