Geez, lots of judgemental people here who somehow think it's their duty to inform me that I'm an idiot. It wasn't very expensive because I got a Groupon for $89 for three days of juice. On their website it costs $185 which I agree is a lot. Ok I'm done with this topic.
You don't think $89 for three days of juice is very expensive? Can I have your budget? Eleven more bucks and that's two weeks of groceries for me.15 -

You can report those people (the PMs). There is no reason for that type of behavior.
ETA: on a public forum, you will be open to opinions.15 -

Same here. 100 bucks is our grocery budget for 3 adults for two weeks.6 -
Most people that I know (and probably many that I don't know) have spent money on things that weren't necessary or that didn't work out the way that they planned. I know that I have. People can spend their money how they choose.
OP...as far as a juice cleanse I have not tried it. Even though I don't think it would harm me...I am too afraid...I might hurt someone along the way. I need my coffee in the mornings. I am not nice until after that first cup...well...maybe the second cup!1 -
Yes people have done juice cleanses, that's why there's companies making a buck selling them
It won't do you any harm for a few days
It won't do you much good either
So good luck ...I will be thinking of you tomorrow while I tuck into my Sunday lunch9 -

Dang, that's about my grocery budget for a week, for my family of 5 humans and 2 furballs

for that price I can buy a crapload(no pun intended) of fruits and veggies and make my own juice.8

After being in Europe for two weeks eating a lot of cheese, wine and rich food, I like the idea of two days without alcohol, caffeine, solid food. Yes I know I can do all that without the juice, but the claim is it's supposed to rid toxins. Maybe it's all hooey, but two days won't kill me. I'll keep you posted. Thanks for all the advice.
The body doesn't need a break from solid food.
The liver and kidneys (as well as lungs and skin) get rid of toxins.
Name just 1 toxin you're trying to get rid of. How do you know you have toxins?
Nothing wrong with 'rich food'.
You asked for advice and then didn't bother with it. Never change, mfp, never change.11 -
I did one, once. Never. Again. And it did me no good. Just a waste of money.
Your liver and kidneys do all of your body's "detoxing" for you. There is not a single thing you can eat or drink on this whole planet that will get rid of any "toxins" for you.
As for the money - I'm sorry, but that was $89 down the toilet (literally - I hope you have plenty of toilet paper). But I think most of us have thrown money away on at least one "health" scam at one point or another.
Live and learn.6 -
Why do people come onto this forum, ask if anyone else has done it, get answers by people who have done it or know people who have done it correctly telling them it's a waste of money and time, then blow all of those people off?14

$89 for some juice??? OP must be big ballin!

I'm still waiting for somebody to invent the "breathing cleanse". You know, for when your body needs a break from inhaling all the carcinogens and pollutants in the air. You pay $89 and hold your breath for three days to give your respiratory system a break. It makes just as much sense as a juice cleanse (i.e., none).
The body doesn't need a break from solid food. It's perfectly equipped to "detox" any bad things via your liver, kidneys and excretory system. That's kinda how humans are designed.

The idea of having a break from alcohol and rich food for a few days to give your guts a rest is a good one. Drink lots, eat lots of fruit and veg. Definitely good. Avoiding solid food is not such a great plan.
I hope the all-juice diet isn't too horrible. Personally if I was in your situation, I'd drink the juice alongside some nice normal meals. We all spend money on daft things sometimes, it's not the end of the world.
People need to stop PMing the OP, it's fine to disagree bluntly on the forum, but PMing someone to tell them they're wrong at close quarters is harassment, it's unnecessary and unfair. Stop it.7 -

Why? Why is giving your guts a rest from what they are designed to do a good idea in a normal person e.g. An adult without any risk of liver damage
Drink lots, eat lots of fruit and veg. Definitely good. Avoiding solid food is not such a great plan.

I am doubtful that there is an undercurrent of multiple users who take juicing so extremely that they are sending manyfold PMs ..but if OP is receiving PMs she doesn't like she simply needs to forward them to Alex or Nova6 -
I've done it a few times in the past and it just flat out doesn't work - you regain all the weight you 'lose' as soon as you start eating solid foods again. Plus it makes you miserable and hangry. No bueno.3

I think juice cleanses are a good thing. Not to actually do them, but whenever someone posts about them, the whole community gets together to rally unified by their dislike of magical toxin scrub scams. It does good for the community spirit!25

People keep claiming this happens, and I don't understand how you are getting emailed by people here -- how do they have your email? Or if you mean a message on MFP, don't you have to have their user name?
I ask because I'm wondering if people are mistaking the MFP notice that someone responded to your thread or post for a private email.8 -
Never done it. I have a low tolerance for misery.
I come from a frugal family so I can understand your reluctance to give up a bad idea, considering how much it cost you.
I'll tell you a story. My son is a recovered druggie. He used to call me when high, full of regret, and with surplus drugs staring him in the face. He hated to waste the drugs they had cost him so much, but he didn't want them in his house any more. So he'd take it all at once. I suggested he could flush them down the toilet instead. After all, they weren't doing his body any good. That was an eye opener for him and eventually he did take my advice.
Later I asked him to call his sponsor, not me, when he got an attack of the guilts. (Boundaries). It took a while but he is clean and sober these days.
There is nothing saying you have to take these juices as prescribed. Look on them as very expensive orange juice.7 -
@Alyssa_Is_LosingIt actually there are a few oral preparations that are intended to neutralize toxins as ingested (still in stomach). One of these is activated charcoal.

I'm not blowing anyone off. If you read my original post, I was not asking for any advice-- I was looking for people who had actually done it to share their experience with me. A few who have done it did respond, and I appreciate that very much. What I did not appreciate was unsolicited advice from people who have not tried it. They are certainly entitled to their opinions, but that isn't what I was asking for. I also did not appreciate being called an idiot (I have blocked those people on MFP mail), a fool, or stupid for being "scammed." Boy, people can really be rude to complete strangers. I'm really sorry I ever posted this and will think again before ever starting a new post. Again, thank you to the people who shared their experiences with me...I appreciate it and it was very helpful. Peace out.2 -
If you don't want critical responses, go to groups at top and look for a juice cleanse group where you're more likely to find people who are of the same mind. All of the public, open groups are fair game for discussion as far as I know.
There are always new people coming into these forums looking for advice on what to do. Some are looking for magic solutions. For those who have done the research and know better to stay silent in the face of promotion of "woo" like juice cleanses and other detoxes would be unfair to those who are ready to believe anything to lose their weight -- and it would be intellectually dishonest not to do so. Hope you get the point.12 -

When you post to the forums, it's open. You don't get to dictate who or what is posted, even though you started the thread.
As mentioned, when newbies come searching for information, they might stumble across a thread like this one. If all they saw were biased results based on what you're asking, they would be inclined to try an unhealthy method of weight loss. See the issue here?

Like most people here I implore you to re-think that cleanse, it's not needed...4 -
@vespiquenn So are you saying I should try a juice cleanse?
@Noel_57 YES! I lost 8lbs in three days!
..oh wait. That was the flu. And I threw up the juice.

Since you are clearly set on doing this, consider that the caveats being posted here might be more for the benefit of anyone else reading this and thinking of trying it, too.
$185 for three days of juice? What the heck's in it? Other than derp and woo, that is.4 -
I never understand when people only value the opinions of someone who has actually tried something. I don't have to eat cat poop to know with a decent degree of certainty that it's not going to taste good. I don't have to touch a glowing stove burner to know it would hurt. I don't need to go up in a space shuttle and see it with my own eyes to know that the earth revolves around the sun. Why do I have to have done a juice cleanse to know there is absolutely no logical reason it would actually do what it claims to? Knowing how the body works can save you from spending money on and suffering through alot of useless stuff!
This isn't specific to this thread, I hear it all the time. And it just always confuses me.22 -
