1/12- Rest- Saw PT, got clearance to run!
    1/13- 4.02-first run after cleared
    1/14- 6.11 test run-can I run a normal training distance? Yes, yes I can.
1/15- Rest, prepping for beginning training tomorrow
    1/16- 5.38
    1/17- REST
    1/18- 7
1/19- XT- Just enough elliptical and other stuff at PT to count it!
    1/20- 4.64
    1/21- 13.11
    12/22- 3.14

    Total: 67.71

Monthly goal: stay healthy and continue base building to start marathon training at the end of the month.
Nominal mileage goal: 70 (revised down after injury).

Today's notes: 3 slow miles. Just putting time on my feet after yesterday's killer long run.

I have a new weird thing. My left shin (same leg of my calf/Achilles issue) has been having pain, not always, just off and on, in roughly the same spot, but it dances around sometimes. It's not bad, just like a dull ache. There is no additional pain when I press firmly on the area, and here's the weird thing, it doesn't hurt when running, only when I'm walking/sitting/standing....totally confused by this.

@MNLittleFinn - I'd guess that the weird migrating ache is really secondary soreness associated with your Achilles/calf issues. Just keep doing what the PT has you doing for recovery, run easy, and as you get your conditioning back it should fade.

Thanks for saying that. I'm in total hypochondriac mode, but the fact that it wasn't hurting when I run and there was no sharp pain pressing on the shin made me pretty sure it's not a stress fracture.

I'm going to slow down all my easy and long runs and only go faster for strides and thr specific assigned fast work, though I might cut that out fully for a few weeks and only do thr strides for faster running.

    Thanks again

My 12 mile (short) long run was nice and relatively uneventful. I am currently at work trying to catch up on some things I have fallen behind on. I drove to work, ran two miles (downhill) to the bike path, ran 8 flat miles on the path, and then ran two miles back up hill to my work. Now I am at my desk trying not to eat all of the dark chocolate Hershey's miniatures in my candy dish. Although it was flooded in places. the bike path was crowded with walkers, runners, cyclists, fishermen, dogs, kids, you name it. I guess that is to be expected when it is 60F in January. Leaving me longing for spring. On a side note, I think the combo of hip exercises I did yesterday and running on mostly level ground did my hip a world of good. Not too tight right now. Going to foam roll during the game later. Go Steelers!

@Stoshew71- I love the picture with the dog!

@kristinegift , @shanaber and anyone else who marched yesterday-Thanks for representing us!

@calvin2008brian they are 3 hour HM runners and from seeing their training I'm not sure they ran over a 5 mile long run, they enjoy the environment of a race. You need a shirt with your phone number on it for the next time you run that KW HM :sunglasses:

@stoshew71 - so cute that you got to see the famous Hound Dog!
@kristinegift- great pics! My daughter went to the one in NYC. Also, she was accepted to the NYC marathon and is very excited about that.

Long run today. Worked out good because the wind was really bad for biking. I haven't run a long run in SO long I was really unprepared. Forgot I might need some water and some nutrition. I used to leave water in my friend's mailbox that is 4 miles away and stop on the way there and the way back and bring sports beans or something.

I left the house with nothing. But I passed a 7/11 at mile 1.5 and realized I had $5 in my running capri pocket (that has been washed probably 50 times). So I went in looking for gels or sports beans - they had nothing. So I bought peanut M&Ms. I remembered that someone on here a couple years ago used to run with them and I'd never tried it, so what the heck! I ate about 4 every few miles. Then I stopped at a store around mile 7 and bought a bottle of water. I almost chugged it down because it was so hot and I was so thirsty, forgetting that I still had to run 4 more miles and didn't want a full stomach! With biking you eat/drink so much while riding, that I forgot I can't do that with running.

Anyway, my speed was not so good. My PR was 2:18 last year when I ran the Daytona Beach HM, I'm not anticipating beating that, but it's okay. As my friend posted ... I can wear a shirt that says "Not beating my PR but you should see my bike!"

1/1 - rest day (recovering from stomach virus)
    1/2 - 40 mile bike ride
    1/3 - 4 miles
    1/4 - 4.1 miles

Nice run today about 60F started to rain about mile 3 but it felt good since I was stupid enough to wear a long sleeve shirt. This is the longest I've run in a really long time, it felt great.

@ddmom0811 super long run today - laughing at you pulling out the well washed $5. Congrats to your daughter on getting in the the NYC marathon.
@stoshew71 nice doggy loving picture. Did you like the course?
    @orphia you look awesome
@kristinegift I posted on your newsfeed that I was surprised to see your pace, now that I see your picture and explanation of your run, it all makes sense.
    @honunui cool lobster
    @dkabambe that is some fog!
@lporter229 glad the hip is feeling better

@Stoshew71 Now I want to make a Long Plane-Road Trip to do the Hound Dog HM.
@kristinegift Great Pics, Amazing looking Trails
@skippygirlsmom Glad its not a stress fracture. PT and skip will be back tearing up the track and trails. Always enjoy the smiling pics of you and your favorite running buddies - Skip and the 4 legged Friend.

Today is the traditional Easy Run day with our little club 5-10 km max and a time to invite newcomers out.
My legs were feeling the 2 hills from yesterday's 11 km jaunt but I thought no big deal. Managed 2 km of a planned 8 km loop when I realized there was just nothing in the legs. Turned around and Wallowed back to Tim's. As I was turning the last corner into the parking lot I could see 2 of the ladies coming up the normal return route at the end of there 6 km run. They did 6 in the time it took me to do 4 and I am usually 20 sec/km faster than them. Definitely should have took it as a complete rest day. I lost at least 6 Training Days this month due to work so a little behind on where I should be for my HM in 2 weeks.

    01/04 8.0 km –8.0km –132.0 km – YTD 8 km
    01/06 7.0 km –15.0km –125.0 km
    01/07 8.0 km –23.0km –117.0 km
    01/08 6.0 km –29.0km –111.0 km
    01/13 12.0 km –41.0km –99.0 km
    01/14 10.5 km –51.5km –88.5 km
    01/16 8.0 km –59.5km –80.5 km
    01/20 11.0 km –70.5km –69.5 km
    01/21 11.0 km –81.5km –58.5 km

    1/20 Rest Day
1/21 10 mile run and yoga
    1/22 20 mile run

    Goal: 126 of 170

Had my 2nd 20 mile run out of 3 on the schedule. Lots of wind today: 28 mph...yuck! I made sure to pick a route to split up my time running against the wind.

All seemed to be going good. My knee was feeling fine, my legs kept going and going, even though they were tired, I didn't have to make any bathroom stops, and I was on the home stretch with the wind at my back. However, around 18.3 miles into the run, I got a strong stinger in my right knee. I think I went down a hill a little too fast. Anyway, I had to stop...Ugh! Fortunately, after I rubbed it a bit and rested it for about 30 seconds, it felt better, and I was able to slowly run on it again. I was even able to comfortably pick up the pace a tad in the last mile.

It was frustrating to have to stop, but looking back, this run was better than my 20 mile run 2 weeks ago.

Going into another cut back week so my knee will get some rest.

Now, just hoping my Packers can make a miracle comeback against Atlanta.

Thanks for saying that. I think I'm just overly sensitive to everything now that I'm officially marathon training. Speaking of which, I hope yours is going awesome.

@BEERRUNNER i thought about getting out too, but the wind is just too much. 34mph gusts and I'm sure my allergies can not handle that.
Way to get the 18+ miles in in pain free!
