I am 29 and have had mine since I was 20. It was infected once in the beginning and when I took it out it ended up closing. Went and had it repierced and have not had problems since. I left it in for both pregnancies. I would just put a bandaid over it when I worked as I was a nurse at a hospital and it would always get snagged when helping patients. I've debated about taking it out, but really what's the point. I've rather have the ring then the scars from it. It does feel dated, but that is a part of who I am. No different then the toe ring that has not left my right foot since I was 14, my tattoos, and my nose piercing that I got this year. I always wanted my nose pierced and figure I should get it done before I am 30.
Some might think it is out of place or trashy, but do you really care what they think?? Do what is best for you and what describes you. I get critized now for the back piece tattoo that I have been working on and planning. Why would I want to cover my back with tattoo. Because it tells my story and describes me. I am not doing anything in this life to impress anyone. I only covet my happiness, not theirs.0 -
all porn stars have navel rings, but not all with navel rings are porn stars.
unless you meant this

I have mine done, I love it! And it's just one more reason to shop for jewelry!0

Is that what I have to do to get a job in the industry??0 -
Are you talking about belly button piercings? I don't find them trashy. I had mine done when I was in shape. It got really irritated when I moved and developed allergies but if that wasn't an issue I'd do it again once I shed some more weight.0

I have mine pierced. Had to get it pierced twice though... first time it just didn't work out. I've had mine now for about 12 years. I don't think it's trashy. They make some really simple and pretty bars for the piercing. Of course they do have the outrageous and gaudy ones as well. It's only trashy if you dress it that way! Otherwise it can be very nice looking. My husband really loves it too! It's not the most fun experience to go thru and it is rather uncomfortable for a week or two (sometimes more depending on the person) but definitely worth it for all the years you'll have it.0

If you do get a navel piercing done, don't wear a ring. They get caught on things, they get stuck and moved around by your clothing, and that causes pain or at least discomfort. Wear a barbell designed for a navel piercing, your piercing shop will happily sell you a few. I've had my piercing, and my half-dozen barbells, for over a decade and never had any pain past the first day or so before it started to heal. Just make absolutely sure you follow the piercer's home care instructions and keep it clean, and infection is a non-issue.
IMPORTANT: Don't follow anyone else's advice on how to care for your piercing. He or she does body piercings for a living and is an expert on the subject. Your mother, your best friend, your significant other, your favorite internet buddy, your co-worker, whoever else, is NOT. Listen politely, but don't follow their suggestions on how to clean a fresh piercing or how to maintain it. Your health is not worth the risk.
Also, stop worrying about what others will think of it, unless of course you plan to pull up your shirt and expose your belly to everyone you meet every day.0 -
I have my belly pierced and don't think it's trashy at all. I know people who do, I don't care. I'm entitled to my opinion and so are they. The majority of people I've met either like it or are not fussed either way.
I don't think I love it as much as when I first had it done as a teenager, it's just kind of there. Not "ooh it's so pretty!", nor "urgh I don't like this!" It just is, and I like it, a bit like ear lobe piercing. Although I think the only reason I'm a bit indifferent to this is because it's only really on show (apart from to myself and my bf) when I'm in a bikini, and that isn't often. If I lived by a beach, or went swimming all the time, I think I'd love it more.0 -
Yes: barbell for sure!!!!!!!!!!!0

Do it. It looks hot.0

I got mine done when I was 17 or so, and then again when I rediscovered my abs.0

I'm pushing 30 and I have one - I got it when I was 18 back when it was all the rage, lol. I think my navel looks kinda funny without it, now!0

I got one when I was 16, I took it out when I got pregnant (22) never got it again, no desire0

I've had one for 12 years and I never knew it was considered trashy. WHY DID YOU LET ME GO OUT IN PUBLIC LIKE THIS? :sad:0

all of thee above0 -
Got one when I was 17 just to piss my parents off along with my tongue and my lip, it worked but they hated them all
But the belly button piercing hurt really bad, and they are annoying getting caught in everything, laying on them and what not. I took mine out because my dog jumped up to lick my face he got one of his nails caught in it and ripped it out, needless to say I have a beautiful scar there now :ohwell: I took out all my piercings when I had my 1st son. Piercings are good on some and not others, but do whatever makes you happy Eff the haters!0 -
My sis has one and I kinda want one but are they still considered trashy? xxx
Hah! My first thought was, "That's not trashy,..that's dangerous!"
OP, my belly button is pierced -almost. It's closed up a bit so I have to have it re-done. I'm waiting until I hit my goal weight, as a little celebration.
I don't know if it's trashy or not. It's all a matter of opinion. I got mine done 10 years ago and even if I don't have anything in it, you can still see the hole, so I figure I might as well put some jewelry in it. Even if I'm getting old0
