There was also the poofed why aren't more people here talking about steroids thread.
OP, the gen pop here isn't aiming for elite. But many users are well read and versed in the science around weight loss and exercise. While some are experts in these fields, many more have simply taken the time and interest in exploring the subject. This can lead to some lively debates. It's best to check your ego at the door. Keep your mind open to learning some new stuff.
Don't forget the it's OK for girls to use gloves but not guys line.
I didn't see that. Thank goodness I'm a girl. I can be dainty. Is that for lifting?3 -
Wait guys! He's a nutritionist! So his opinion is law!
Ironically enough, a lot of the threads you post in get the posts deleted by mods. So there's gotta be some merit there.4 -
I feel like we should rename Coleman's Law to Coleman and Cutler's Law. Any time you use either of them as an example for something, you automatically lose the debate.
With those two, we're not even just talking "roided up bodybuilders" anymore. We are talking about the ultimate genetic elite. It's the same thing as all of those powerlifters who spent a decade *kitten* to Coan's training methods and diet, while accomplishing precisely nothing.3 -
Yeah but like . . . I am an expert, so.2

It is funny to read what some people write on here, everyone is an expert at everything. Jay Cutler 4x Mr. Olympia has a vid out on YouTube where he says that his clients will argue about the best training methods and "everyone is an expert". Its so true lol. Who else agrees with me?

whos the roided up BB? Jay Cutler? Yes def on steroids, def knows his body, diet, nutrition, exercise etc better than anyone here thats for sure. No one takes steroids, sits on a couch, eats junk and gets in that kind of shape. His life was dedicated to his body and with that came levels of nutritional awareness most of us will never understand.

Ah yes, I remember that thread now! The same thread in which he was outed for being an Advocare rep, right? (Hence the different username, I assume.)2 -
Am I seriously the only person who thought this was about a washed up overrated quarterback?9

LOL, no you're not. I'm like, everyone I know makes fun of Jay Cutler for being a *kitten* QB, do bodybuilders really look up to him? He looks kinda slim to me2 -

Chicago Bear Jay makes $16 million a year. Bodybuilder Jay makes maybe $2 million a year................but half of that is used on his gear.

But hate? No not really, hate is a strong word.
Glad you are enjoying the place though. It's a good place to learn if you have an open mind.9 -
This must be true. When I go to one of the trainers at my gym and ask for some guidelines, telling them that I need some help because I have no idea what I'm doing, I just get this blank stare. The only possible reason for this is that they've never heard those words come out of anyone's mouth before.
It's also the gym at my employer, which is free for employees to use, and I'm very likely getting exactly what I pay for. But still.2 -

Yeah, I feel like I'm missing something too...
Well, I don't think you'll be missing the salmon, brah. That's a pretty quick thaw.

Jay Cutler looks like a balloon. Gear will do that to you.1

Its just general advice that people give when asked. Then when someone disagrees with them or even has research or IDK a degree in that field, they are still more knowledgeable and give better advice. Everyone for the most part seems to be an expert at health and fitness, diets, bodybuilding, weigh training etc.
Everyone for the most part? That's painting with a broad stroke.2 -

I don't know--the Sumerian diet was kinda carb-heavy. Hard to go keto on barley paste.

LOL! I said to myself "Since when did Jay Cutler become a bodybuilder!!! He should be focusing on being a better QB"4 -
But you think his methods apply to the general populous? Srs question. [/quote]
Yes I do. I think someone who dedicated themselves to fine tuning their bodies beyond what we can conceive can give solid advice in diet and training. They are the best of the best in training and diet.0 -

Well then we will just have to agree to disagree. No hate from me, just disagreeing.4 -

It's funny because while bodybuilders have the best physique, they generally have the worst programming and nutritional knowledge. When your sport is 95% drugs, site injections, genetics and complete disregard for one's health then well, it's just not going to cultivate elite coaches.
Realistically, seeking out the actual elite coaches is the way to learn. The people who have years and decades of experience setting world records and helping OTHERS (from all walks of life) set world records generally know what they're talking about. Dave Tate, Rippetoe, Wendler, Chris Duffin, Chad Wesley Smith, Mark Bell, Mike Tuscherer, now you're talking.10 -

I wouldn't take their advice based on looks alone. Greg Plitt had a great body and he said really stupid crap about training and nutrition. His information about digestion is scientifically inaccurate. He's just one of hundreds and that's not even taking into account that information shared by someone using steroids rarely applies to natural people.
Enjoy some eye rolling thanks to Greg Plitt.

And unlike Cutler, at least Coleman had some respectable totals.
Really, the whole thing with bodybuilding and powerlifting, once you get to those levels, is that it's 100% individual. Even if you were to ignore the drugs (which you can, because at that level everyone is on), very few of those guys have identical, or even highly similar training and diet.
Taking advice based on a very specific individual and assuming that it's the be-all, end-all of training and nutrition, is a recipe for disappointment and failure.
Besides, if I were gonna listen to any specific person, it would have to be Efferding. I mean come on; who else completely dominates in both PL and BB within a few months of each other?3 -

Ahaha. Watching this guy argue everyone is like watching someone try to plug holes in a boat as the water is pouring in.
Dude I know several roiders Who train 2-3x a day and consistently hate on my training style because I follow Wendlers programing. They don't "understand" how I can make progress without going to absolute failure and lifting for under an hour a session. These guys if they had their way would be having me do 7 different exercises for chest at 4 sets each all to failure followed by a drop set, then go again later and hit shoulders. Do you honestly think that as a NATURE lifter with average genetics that those training styles would suit my goals and work just as well for me as it does for them? Aside from the fact that their testosterone levels are up to 3000x higher than mine, because you know what difference does that make.
