You are all so kind and offer such helpful information. I am 59 and have never enjoyed exercise other than tennis which I stopped playing about 6 years ago. I am thinking that after i lose a little weight I might start back up. Right now I cannot fit into size xl tennis clothes. I am working hard on projects around the house working myself into a sweat. I am not sure i am burning calories but am getting steps in. This next week i am increasing my step goal and I bought some cute bowls that are much smaller than my old ones that I am going to use from now on. I am also going to look for cute smaller plates. Not lofty goals I know but i am trying to keep them obtainable so I don't give up out of frustration. Thank you all and good luck to everyone this week4

@dlm4mom Getting smaller plates and bowls is a great idea. You can have a full plate without eating as much. I think it's a good trick to use to satisfy the part of your brain that wants quantity of food.
Also, don't feel that working around the house and increasing your step goal are not lofty goals. They are awesome and sustainable goals that will certainly help your overall health and make it easier to add in more healthy changes later. Keep going. You are so on the path to health!2 -

I've had two good health days in a row and I'm about to stand up and shout! I built a lettuce planting box. I'm making plans for a handrail on my back step. I'll paint the handrail and lettuce planter at the same time. I'm going to Walmart for paint.

Good morning! Happy Sunday!
While babysitting last night, I was VERY winded walking up the stairs with the baby. This has never been an issue with me. With everything that has been going on, I've really just let myself go. Lots of fast food. Ugh. My downfall.
I went down to Indy for a couple interviews and stayed with a friend - a rough adventure. Ended up missing my interviews due to hitting a pole while backing out of my friends carport at her apartment. Awesome. There is a $500 deductible that I have to pay for in order to get he car fixed. I do not have $500 right now and am not sure when I'll get it. My left yellow light/turn signal (drivers side) is kaput. This is something I really need to get fixed ASAP.
This week on Wednesday I go back down for a interview at a Church. It is a position that I have been looking for and would be a really great opportunity. Plus it would help me have a "home"'church and be better about going again and being more "Christ like". I have definitely strayed away from that.
I also had an interview for a paraprofessional position (part time) up here, which is ideally what I truly want to do. This wouldn't start until mid March, so although it would be a great opportunity, the waiting game is where I'm struggling.
Also my apartment lease is up at the end of March, so I have limited time for everything. Talk about stress. Talk about all the unbeautiful behaviors that have come with this.
I have all healthy food which I'm planning on starting come Monday. I think I have gotten the fast food cravings out of my system -- getting subway/jimmy johns a couple times (which I like anyways, but normally wouldn't be my first choice).
So my beautiful behaviors this week:
Be social; Leaning on friends is truly what I need, not to shy away or deal with it on my own.
Drink water; I have been drinking pop - from always going out to eat.
Eat the food choices I have at home, nothing else.
Believe in myself; I need to show confidence at the interview, to land the job.
It has been very lovely reading the posts and making sure I'm still caught up! Keep up the amazing work! You guys are all of my inspiration!!!

@woznube7 Good luck with the interviews. Getting closer to church always helps me. I am preparing for Lent, which is quickly approaching. Such a good time for mindfulness and contemplation. Also it helps to eat as if it were always the Lenten season - only what the body needs!!! There is a lesson in that for sure. And nothing, I mean, NOTHING is more stressful than moving!
@aleahurst - You're right....SuperBowl did not do me in. I am back on track! Woo hoo! And hey, I did get to eat some wings. Win/win. Great blog post, btw.

Libby - I'm so glad you're back "on the wagon". You may find that it's less stress to actually stick to a healthy (non scale) eating plan. Good for you.1

congrats to all who are working the program! i'm still struggling to get back on fully, and did a less than awesome food shopping yesterday. i bought too many tv dinners, which although low in calories, are high in sodium and just not as satisfying as cooking, you know? maybe today i will cook a chicken soup in the crockpot. not really feeling it, gotta tell you.2

@jessiquoi - Yay! It's okay not to "feel it". It's okay that you're not back on fully. We all walk one step at a time.
Today, I go to the doctor.
I empty my pockets.
I take off my sweater.
I step on the scale. I was 217 in December. I want to be 216 today!
The doctor measures my oxygen and CO2. I'll walk home the long way, so I can have exercise.
Today, I will prepare for the worst (if I've gained, it's okay, but that's not likely) and hope for the best (214 wouldn't be bad either!).
When I get under 200, they will no longer label me "obese"! THAT's what I'm going for!
My beautiful behavior for today is to be happy with what I've learned about food and weight. I will walk slowly home and be grateful for the Arkansas weather - dry and chilly - which is perfect for walking. I have two water bottles in my pack with my oxygen tank. I. am. ready!!!

Hey all. I managed to eat super healthy all last week and yesterday had my "splurge" meal at birthday party - pizza, ice cream and cake. Today it's back at it with egg white veggie breakfast, sweet potato and 90/10 lean beef for lunch. I lifted about 4 times last week at the gym and did cardio about 5 times last week. Played 6 volleyball games Saturday night and won 5 games, Woo Hoo! Tonight is the gym hitting chest, shoulders and triceps but no cardio -so I'm stoked about that *I really do not enjoy cardio!

I walked 2.5 miles in 57 minutes. I kept stopping to talk to people. It was exhilarating. I weighed at the clinic. 216.2, which equals 0.5-1 pound lost each month. I'm so happy.
Tomorrow, I have to come back down to earth. Clean beeswax. Build hives. Paint boxes. Wash dishes. Water veggies. Comb out cats. Sigh.
All this was not without strife against my inner self. Don't feel sorry for me. I use the strife to remind myself that I'm really alive, and loving others, and being who my God meant me to be.

Today! Today I will track everything I eat! That's where it begins with me, and I haven't tracked in a week. Today I begin again, again.3

ok, I tracked my breakfast and pre-tracked my midmorning snack. I have to stay very very focused today so I can succeed at this tiny little baby step of a goal, one full day of tracking. I'm in the office today, which makes everything easier... I am not 10 steps away from my frig at home, and I'm busy most of the time so I don't think of eating, and I move more.
it's a conundrum. I hate coming into the office, and don't even want to think about coming in more days, and yet I know that it's healthier for me when I do get out of my house. maybe in the spring... but no, I don't want to tell the bosses I want to come in more, I'm trying to keep them from telling me they want me to come in more. see? a conundrum... balancing the mental benefit and the comfort of working from home with the bennies of going in.

I am a little frustrated. I have been really working hard spending my days off painting and cleaning brush until i am exhausted and have been sticking pretty close to 1500 calories a day and no movement on the scale!!! I can't understand why i am not losing something. I have been watching portions and I think the calorie count is pretty accurate. I will try hard to hang in there. At least I'm getting some work done. My goals for this week are to continue to watch portions and get in 6000 steps per day.
Sounds like most of us are having a bit of a struggle at this time. We can't give up. I think it's important to check in here every day when things aren't going well.5 -
@dlm4mom I agree, checking in here is so important when things aren't going as we wish. I tend to lurk and hide, and I'm only hiding from MYSELF because I just don't want to be aware of what I'm putting in my mouth. I think 6000 steps a day is awesome! don't worry, the weight will come off. are you drinking loads of water?2

I have a second interview for a paraprofessional position here in MI (on Thursday) and then an Administrative Assistant position in Indy at a church tomorrow. They are both jobs that I'd see myself in and would love! Praying and letting my worries not get to me! This has really made me not focus on eating or anything healthy. I'm too stressed. I can not focus on anything other than trying to find a job currently!!!

Libby, basic survival trumps all, and you have to get a job that allows you to de-stress first and foremost. We'll all keep our fingers crossed for you. Remember that eating healthy will allow you to feel better physically, and maybe you can plan your meals for your interview days only? One day at a time, and let us know how it goes!!!2

@dlm4mom - Pfsht - my scale hasn't moved in over a month **but guess what I can lift heavier than a month ago - 100 lb deadlift 7 times* also I am seeing cuts and muscles forming everywhere, I'm sticking to my eating and exercise plan as before I would have given up because of that scale! You are doing the healthy thing and your body will and is thanking you! You keep going!
@woznube7 yes, when life happens sometimes our food chooses suffer. hang in there and at least try to swap a couple of food item out a day - salad for fries, fruit for chips, etc... congrats on all of the interviews, these days it's even hard to get a face to face with anyone. Win!
Update: I have decided not to log my exercise calories, I don't feel I need to eat them back at this point (especially with having a splurge meal each week). I am still eating super healthy watching calories and macros during the week with 1 splurge meal. I am also still kicking but on my workouts which are 5 to 6 times a week (weights and cardio mix). OH and Happy Valentine's Day!5 -

Lea, you make me laugh!
Good morning, all! I managed to track everything yesterday (big yay) and I was honest even though I didn't make the best choices all day. I went over my calories by 400. My goal for today is to get closer to my allotted calorie count and to continue tracking every bite.
Did you have to deal with a lot of chocolate on Valentine's Day? I managed to avoid it all! (But I bought myself a Milky Way for dessert last night.)
I'm at home today, which means a low activity day, unless I can get myself to do a video. I'm not sure I'm feeling it yet. Last night I promised myself I would get up from my desk every hour and walk around the room to put steps on my fitbit, so here I go with the first round!

I love this group & decided to post & not just lurk. Been a slow path for weight loss 22 pounds last year but large in dealing with the mental stuff on this journey of controlling stress eating & selfesteen. Been losing & gaining the same few pounds for the last 6 months with self- sabotage. My beautiful behavior is too not give up, be at peace with this & wait while I get to the bottem of this & then overcome!4

It prompted me to seek out this thread community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/1120789/females-only-lifting-weight-training-results/p1 where I found the inspiration to start a lifting program myself. 3 times in this past week, about an hour each time to start. @jessiquoi Good job sticking with us while in a low spot, Jess. It can be so very difficult to show vulnerability or any imperfection. We tend to be so much harder on ourselves than anyone else.... You are one strong woman. The way you share your ups and downs helps me remember we are all human and have to be kind and encouraging to OURSELVES first. I'm sure I'm not alone in this.3 -

@mithridites - OMG! ya'll are making my day. I truly do try to be positive. HEY! I went through 2 rounds of Jamie Eason livefit trainer, I absolutely Love that program. Right now I am following Lee Labrada Lean program on bodybuilding.com, I downloaded the app BodySpace to my phone so I can follow along in the gym (it's bodybuilding.com app and it's free) An HOUR each time, you're a BEAST, Great work!
I have a confession: Last night I ate Mexican food and had a big margarita for Valentines day. I did not feel guilty and it tasted amazing. I could enjoy because I know that I work hard at making healthy choices all the other days of the week and I stick to my workout plan, I don't indulge everyday and knowing I can "splurge" once a week makes that easier. ***That being said - this is what works for me and my situation, others have different scenarios!!!!***4 -
The scale is silly and I'm going to show you why. This picture was in October while I was on vacation, guess how much I weigh? (height is 5'7) ..... My co-workers and my bf guess that I weigh about 140 lbs by looking at me. I weighed 168 lbs in that picture! I am currently at a plateau for over a month at 171 lbs - I look about the same.
So, yes, use the scale as a tool but don't let it discourage you or run your life!!!!

Spluge day by default. Sherri-- I had not considered not logging in exercise calories burned but it makes sense to me. Thinking about this I realized that most of my exercise is done honestly so that I can eat more and stay decent in calories. I am a little worried that if I don't do this I will lose control over what I eat. What are everyone's thoughts on this??
Still no weight loss BUT tonight I was out to dinner and was unable to finish the food on my plate or the dessert. I don't remember this ever happening before so i am considering this a success.
Jessi you are not giving yourself enough credit for your sucesses one of which is your amazing ability to start and keep this group going. You are helping not just yourself but the rest of us too in a big way. Thank you so much.3
