How do you drink your coffee?

At home I use a French press to make hot or cold brew. Illy coffee is good and widely available. I also buy some locally roasted brands. I really enjoy coffee and like trying different brands and different roasts. I usually drink my coffee black, unless it's crappy coffee - then I add milk.
If you want good coffee I'd avoid getting a keruig.
Sometimes I'll make expresso or a cappuccino. If I'm buying coffee out I usually get cold brew or nitro.0 -
I take my coffee black, but on the lite side of caffeine ... so I generally buy whichever brand at the supermarket is on sale that has half-caffeine ... and I normally drink 16 ounces in the morning, plus on many days I'll have another 8 ounces in mid morning. I do use a Keurig coffee maker, but not the K-cups. Instead, I have one of those little mesh coffe ground holders that fit where the K-cup would normally go. I use 2 tablespoons of coffee grounds for every cup I make. ... Actually, I prefer a French Press for making coffee but the Keurig is very handy and easy to use, except for dumping the coffee grounds and rinsing out the little mesh grounds basket.
At one time, I used to be able to drink high-octane coffee and then I loved to buy expensive beans and grind them at home. But now I get heart palpitations if I get too much caffeine.0 -
Spliner1969 wrote: »I love coffee... but fair warning to the OP, a medium McDonalds Caramel Mocha I believe is 290 calories. Not sure if they can make it unsweetened and/or if it would help. I stay away from anything other than black coffee which I sweeten myself with Stevia and a little light cream or almond milk. I like my breakfast too much to blow my calories on coffee.
I got a small caramel mocha and the website said it's 250 calories with the non-fat milk. Worth every calorie
I actually found the copy cat recipe for it so I'm heading out in a bit to buy a machine and supplies-my grocery store carries the McDonalds brand coffees (I've noticed it when I've been in that isle buying tea), so I may just start with that to duplicate the recipe. I'll also be on the lookout for lower calorie syrup options. Getting lots of great ideas here though-thanks everyone!2 -

I drink my coffee black so I don't have to worry about calories. As a result, I go for light to medium roasts. Dark roasts are dark because they are roasted longer, and basically get kind of burnt, hence the reason they sometimes be too bitter. If I am out somewhere and their coffee is bitter, I will add just a little bit of cream or half in half. I have been known to doctor it up with cinnamon sometimes just for fun. I usually my drip maker at home, but have a stainless steel French press that i use while camping, since I don't always have electrical hookups, but I can always heat water. Stainless steel is more expensive than the glass French presses, but they won't break in transit. Every once in a while I will use the French press at home, particularly when I accidentally buy whole beans.0

I don't like coffee. I only drank it in the past when working third shift but it still didn't keep me awake.0

8oz of coffee, a scop of isopure whey isolate, and 8oz of chocolate milk.0

With a tablespoon of half and half in the AM, and maybe a cup of black coffee during the day as an appetite suppressant if I'm feeling extra munchie.0

Just strong black coffee. I can't stand the flavoured starbucks/McD rubbish, can't drink that.1

Either black or with a little cacao powder mixed in.0

How do I drink my coffee? I lift the cup to my mouth and sip.
Kidding... whole bean local roaster (Erie Island Coffee Company), grind daily, french press, BLACK.0 -
I've been drinking black coffee since the 70's. I used to use cream, but never liked sugar in my coffee.1

I have a stovetop espresso percolator and my best friend sends me care packages of Yaucono from Puerto Rico. I also have a french press. I am one of those weirdos that use heavy cream because a little goes a long way and my eating plan is low-sugar, low-carbohydrate. My coffee of choice will slap you awake.0

OP: being a coffee snob, I have to throw my 2 cents in here...
1) get yourself a decent coffee maker. Best is a cone filter auto drip machine with a thermal carafe. You don't want one with a heater that keeps the coffee on a heating element - it makes it bitter after a half-hour.
2) find a good bean that you like. I personally am addicted to Whole Foods' 'Pleasant Morning Buzz', a medium 'Vienna' roast with good body and rich flavor. There are many, many great beans out there. Don't pay more than $10/lb unless you know for sure what you're getting.
3) black coffee is the purest form and a great bean should not need any cream or sweetening, in my opinion. However, it really is a matter of preference. If you want more of dessert experience, go for it.
4) you owe it to yourself to at least try 'Bulletproof Coffee'. If you want to splurge on a $20 bag of 'clean' coffee, it really is a cut above, in that it is free of the mold spores that are in virtually every coffee. If not, you can use your regular brew. The original recipe calls for MCT coconut oil and grassfed unsalted butter. There are some that add heavy cream and sweetener, but it's not needed. Google it. Try it!
Welcome to the amped-up world of caffeine freaks! Without a 16 oz. mug first thing in the morning, I would cut my throat shaving or drown in the shower...0 -
A decent store brand is the eight o'clock Colombian and most Kona blends are quite good.
I make a complicated protein latte of sorts to combine my coffee and post-workout snack. I cup hot coffee, half scoop chocolate protein powder, 2 TB milk of choice (I use Califa Farms Toasted Coconut Almond), 1/2 tsp coconut oil, and a scoop of collagen peptides. Give it a whir in my nutribullet and I have coffee plus a protein shake that looks like a treat for around 130 calories that includes some protein.0 -
Tassimo Gevalia House Blend - I scour the city for sales and buy large quantities when on sale. I take a half cream in it (10% cream not the 18%) I drink 2 cups per day. Costs about $1.30 a day. To treat myself, there's a coffee shop in town that makes a Swiss Drip... strong and delicious. If I brew coffee, I buy Kicking Horse brand coffee either the Three Sisters blend or Kick *kitten**. I like my coffee strong. Never sweet.0

Mmmmm.... coffee.
At home we have an espresso machine - manual with a grinder. Pilot's Heritage is our bean of choice for all our americano's and espressos.
When I'm out in the world, I usually drink drip coffee that I drink black 99% of the time - I've rarely met a coffee I don't like.0 -
I use a 12-cup Mokka Pot (it's a 24 oz pot, though) made for Italian espresso coffee (although you can get almost 32 oz of water / coffee out of it by over filling it, which is what I do). I buy my coffee directly from a coffee roaster (Leelanau in Michigan is by far my favorite). I buy different kinds of whole beans from around the world (Africa, Asia, South America mostly) from this roaster (and mix them for my own blend) but primarily stick with city roasts to French to Italian / espresso roasts. The darker roasts have less caffeine I have been told. Also the Mokka Pot pushes the water through so fast that you get less caffeine with this way of brewing; the same goes for a French press. Some beans / roasts are less acidic. If you are going to try to drink it black, you want a low acid coffee. During the week I stick to two 16 ounce coffees in the morning with 2 TBSP each of good half and half. It's quick and within my morning calorie limit when I add my smoothie. On the weekends, I don't have a smoothie and I usually have 2.5 oz of half and half per cup. I put the half and half in first. Whip it with my stick blender. Pop it in the microwave for 30 seconds (it steams and froths the half and half) and it's some kind of heaven at 105 calories. If I am really in the mood to splurge, I'll also take a TBSP each of butter (100 calories) and brown sugar (52 calories) and pop them in the microwave until the butter has melted and stir it up and pop it in for another 30 seconds until it bubbles and pour that over the top of the whole thing. That is probably the healthiest macchiato with "caramel" (257 calories) that you'll find in your kitchen. Cheers!1

I like my coffee black, just like my metal.2

If I'm out and about or at work I'll grab a grande white chocolate mocha from starbucks with no whip and skim milk to cut out some of that sugar. But if I'm at home I'll just have some green tea.0

Wow, thanks for all the responses!
I went to the grocery store last night and bought a cheapy Mr. Coffee pot (on sale for $17). Made my first cup of coffee this morning, following the copy cat recipe I found for the McDs caramel mocha. I just bought store brand coffee beans to start with. It tasted decent-not exactly like the Mcdonalds version, but mine came in at 160 calories vs their 250 calories. For now I'll do this once or twice a day and then experiment with different low calorie options, like some of your suggestions

I recently bought a Tassimo (pod type) machine (because it went really beautifully with the external hard drive I went in to buy) and it has creamer pods which are the same calories as my milk but.....creamier! When I have the calories for it though I have the caramel macchiato which is a nice sweet treat and only 100 calories because it's not a bucketful like in a coffee shop.
So the second part is of no use to anyone not in the UK but for those who are in the UK, enjoy!
Wow I didnt realise Tassimo is so fewer in calories than coffee shops! My son bought me one for Christmas with the Costa pods. I dont really like the powdered milk but I can't really tell him that haha One trick I got told was double use your pods ...Ive done it either the Americano and it is still as lovely PLUS youre only adding water so no added cals xx0 -

I was never fond of the choices of coffee available in KCups so I bought the filter so I can drink what I like. Currently on a coffee binge of Hawaiian Hazelnut from Sprouts
Just a tad of milk or creamer and 1 pack sweet and low.
Just rinse out a used kcup, let it dry, fill it with whatever coffee you like and put a new lid on it.
You can buy just the lids for about $8.00 per hundred.
I buy a pound of Dunkin' Donuts coffee and make a ton of k cups for pretty cheap. You can buy standard folders/maxwell/etc very inexpensive
and make cups for 15-20 cents each.
I have splurged on Blue Mountain coffee ($50.00/pd) for a real treat.1 -
Two cups of black coffee a day, with just a packet of Splenda. I don't like creamers, cream or milk in my coffee. At home, my husband grinds the beans that we get from Hawaii (chocolate macadamia nut; Irish cream; coconut flavor, tec.).
I don’t like Starbucks coffee, but I do like coffee from The Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf, and the coffees served at several local coffee places in my area. I also like black iced coffee, especially in the summer.

The one I had this mornings was a Mcdonalds caramel mocha. I really liked the sweetness of it, and it toned down the coffee flavor, which is pretty intense. When I have black tea I also sweeten/flavor it. So I know going into this, at least starting out, I'm going to be adding some sort of flavoring/sweetener.
I'm heading out to buy a coffee pot and I'm not quite sure what to do with it! What coffee do you buy to make at home? If you add things to your coffee what do you use? How calorie friendly are your coffee concoctions (the McDs one was 250 calories, ouch).
I know the kcups thing is really popular right now but those are really pricey. Especially interested in hearing from those who make cheap coffee
250 calories?!?! My coffee is 35 calories. But then I was drinking coffee long before these fancy varieties were invented. There's a big difference between a plain old regular cup of coffee, and a cup of Caramel Mocha.
I use instant coffee and have mine with a small amount of milk or creamer, but no longer add any sugar.0 -
I drink my coffee black as night ... with nothing added.0

When I started exercising , dieting, eating healthier and watching my calories...
I found out a cup of coffee with a lil bit of cream ..jumps the calories up from about 2 calories per cup to 30-35 calories per cup.
I drink a lot of coffee..and decided I was not going to invest my calories in cream in my coffee!
I've been drinking black coffee for over a year now.
However, I found some new cream. It may make me rethink my position!

You can get k-cups on Amazon cheaper than what the stores sell them for. You can also get the reusable container (not sure what they are called) that you can fill with ground coffee. Just be aware that the keurig 2.0 only takes keurig brand cups so make sure you read the fine or not so fine print!
I normally put artificial sweetner and no sugar or fat free flavored creamer in.
One last thing, some flavored calories have calories. Check the box!0
