We managed 12 miles this week!

Challenges: We saw a mama black bear and her three cubs, which freaked me out and now I'm a little nervous hiking haha

Successes: We visited another State park in the area that is HUGE and shady and SO GREEN. This place has so many places to explore, so even though it's a little further away we can't wait to go back and see all the nooks and crannies. I have a feeling that our mileage will be going up from now on!

With that dense vegetation where you are it would be hard to see bears in advance. That IS scary not knowing what's around the next bend. I like to trail run, and I could just picture myself running right into a bear on that trail in your pic. Where I live (in Southern California) the vegetation is more sparse, so you have a better view of your surroundings most of the time. I've seen bears while hiking, but only from a distance. There aren't any bears in the local area that I run, although there are mountain lions (never seen one).

@jenilla1 We have been just walking the roads, since the sighting (but even these are enclosed by the dense brush, so still scary). There are also feral hogs in the area, so I have begun playing music while we walk, better safe than sorry haha!

We have lived in Oceanside, Bakersfield and Tehachapi (we travel for my husbands work) so we know Southern California pretty well! I always figure when we are there, nothing I do is going to stop a mountain lion if it wants to kill me, and there is no use looking for them, so we will just pray they don't!

(Actually my profile picture was taken in Acton CA  )

This is such a great idea! Uniquely, I take my cats for walk... Yes, you read that correctly. We went for a 2.4 mile walk/hike yesterday.

Luckily it looks like they caught it before it hit any private property and there was no one hurt, just 68 acres of wilderness brush! I had no clue that happened, hiked there yesterday, came back today for our daily walk and it was all burned, and smoldering and burning still in some areas (apparently its 75% contained). They stopped it before it hit the state park too, so even though it's sad, at least it wasn't worse (their is and orchard and houses across the street, literally the fire burned the fence at the orchard and that was it!).

Welcome, cats! (My cat is too good for walks. She refuses the leash. I guess she has better things to do, like lay around in the sun..)

P.S. She's actually a small cat. Doesn't look like it here because she's all puffed up and sprawled out.

Finished my challenge this week, three days of walking with my pals. I might get a walk in Saturday evening but I don't know when I will get home from work. The joys of being a nurse, working 12+ hour shifts. I don't want to complain to much because I love my job and I love having four days off per week. I will try and get pictures of my babies on next walk. Happy trails with your pals!

I'm joining today as I need some motivation to go walk my dog every day or mostly every day... What helps me is my mp3. I listen to music while my dog is smelling every tree, every fence, every strand of grass!!! :) I'm from Montreal, Quebec.

Walking Buddy: Tobi, a 14 y.o American Cocker Spaniel
Weekly Goal: A 20 to 30 minutes walk every day
How long/far did you walk this week?: I've walked Tobi 4 days since last Monday, First day we walked about 30 minutes. Every other day was around 20 minutes. Tobi is getting old so we can walk like we used to in the past.
Successes: Motivation is a little more important this week.
Challenges: Find a time slot that's convenient.

We've been slacking off due to my increased workload this time of year. Should be back at it in a few weeks, though.

Haha thanks! It was a little freaky right after it happened because I was bleeding all over the floor but couldn't feel any of the cuts so I wasn't sure how bad it was (not horrible, only one of the cuts were even stitch worthy, and the doc even let me skip them for glue instead with some convincing). Pretty sure it scared my husband more than me though, he watched the whole thing. The funny things is I was rolling up my yoga mat when it happened! dang exercise is dangerous.

I hope your workload lightens up a little, but at least you are staying busy
