Realistically gained 9 pounds in 2 days?

So I had family trip weekend and got home to weigh myself and see I gained 9 pounds in 2 days! Went from 88.2 (also BTW I don't use MFP to lose weight, just to maintain) on Friday morning to now 97.0 tonight. How is that humanly possible?? I get that it's probably a lot of water weight and sodium retention from eating so much junk. I'm quite bloated. But how much is probably real fat gain?

So you're already drastically underweight. I wouldn't even worry about the weight gain and would probably speak to a professional.14

Realistically your scale shows you gained that weight. So, baring scale issues and gravitational anomalies... you did!
Realistically each lb of fat gained requires a caloric surplus of 3500 Cal.
So realistically you should be able to estimate how many Calories above maintenance you could have possibly eaten in a two day period.
Even more realistically, unless you have some serious medical issues, your answer lies in food waste in your body and water retention!
(technically the medical issues are water retention too, but I digress ;-)
Hint: only a few people would be able to eat 3500+ Cal above maintenance in a day. I've done it. It ain't easy... and it ain't that pretty! And it would only be 1lb!5 -
Travel can also add to it, hopefully it's just some gain for you.0

I am trying to calculate how many plates of wings and pitchers of beer that is. Sounds like a party!!!!2 -
Well, 9 pounds of body fat would equate to 31,500 calories above maintenance. I seriously doubt that you ate anywhere near that much. Actually, I would be highly impressed if someone your size even got close to that amount.
It is a combination of water weight and excess waste. I would be surprised if you really put on more than a pound or two unless it was a truly epic binge.0 -

Holy crap, you're under 100lbs and under 18.5 BMI and set to maintain instead of intentionally trying to gain?
+1 what @malibu927 said...

Considering how underweight you are that gain would really be a good thing. Unfortunately a lot of it is just water weight. Hope you'll consider getting some professional help.7

OP, please see a doctor. You're seriously underweight. Dangerously so. I am your height and 120 looks incredibly lean on me.
Please think of your heart.... thinning of the hearts wall is a possibility.4 -

I hope you aren't trying to lose weight. In fact, I seriously hope you are trying to gain weight. While I do think people put often to much stock in BMI, 15.4 is really low and definitely cause for concern. Why are you trying to maintain such a low weight?4 -

Two dinner plates heaped with desserts at a thanskgiving brunch buffet. After a full main food plate. About 19 separate desert items. Some small, many full slices. MFPeops explained that my initial 5000 Cal estimate was a bit low.
Sad as that buffet may have been (note that it still did not manage to stop my weight loss), I regret my initial response to the op regarding her weight.
Obviously (and frankly unfortunately) op your scale weight jump is NOT and cannot be fat gain. Not beyond a tiny tiny fraction of it, if that.3 -

I'm actually quite healthy! I'm very petite but I'm also only 22. I maintain on a pretty low amount of calories so I track it on MFP
Just because you feel healthy doesn't mean you actually are. At 88 pounds you're a good 20 pounds underweight.10 -

Well for example yesterday I had-
Breakfast- 2 bowls oatmeal with raisins and granola mixed in, 1 bowl mixed fruit, 5 egg omelet with peppers
Snack- Clif bar
Lunch- Buffet with 2 salad bar plates, 2 rolls with butter, side of cole slaw, side of pasta salad, 1 bowl mixed fruit
Snack- 1 Quest bar, bowl of pretzel sticks
Dinner- Buffet with 2 giant plates of spaghetti with cheese sauce, 1 plate of linguini with marinara meat sauce, 2 breadsticks, 6 cookies, 1 brownie
Snack- Apple with peanut butter packet and bowl of pretzel sticks
I'm so bloated my joints hurt and I can't bend over. I can't believe I ate so much
You really should be getting the support of a competent professional especially if you are refeeding after a prolonged deficit.7 -

Because i used to binge eat.. and i mean i could pack away food but.. im having my doubts about the above menu
I guess I would describe it as giant because it was heaped up like a mound covering an entire standard buffet plate
I am glad you're willing to eat!
Not knowing what has been happening in your recent past and given the many health concerns associated with your current excessively low weight, the only responsible thing i can do is urge you to enlist professional support during your refeed especially if starting after a prolonged period of starvation.1 -

I was just at the doctor for an unrelated issue and I was given a clean bill of health other than my weight being low. Annual lab work was great as well. I understand and appreciate the concern though!
There's no way a doctor gave okay to being 20lbs underweight..11 -
The nine are not there. Get them out of your mind. In a few days after you digest and go to the bathroom and your water weigh returns to normal they will be gone.
Your goal of maintenance is the concern.
A 5ft 3" person who is 22 does not maintain at 1000 Cal.
A 5ft 3" person who is under ~113lbs should not be restricting calories.
1000 Cal a day is an attempt at restriction.9 -
