Ugh, my foods touched each other

So I'm eating my egg and one little piece of shredded potato snuck in there. I wanted to spit it out but I'm at work. I've been like this for as long as I can remember, my foods are not allowed to touch each other unless I mix them together. I can't stand the weird taste and the different textures in my mouth at the same time.

Who else has an aversion to foods touching each other? and why?

I do not like my foods touching!!
I will use several different plates/bowls at meal times just so they don't.
I also use different forks/spoons too.
Thought I was just the only weirdo like that.

LMAO! If this is real. This calls for serious Culinary Therapy, 1. Study Food & Flavor pairings. 2. Try more International foods with various sauces and condiments such as Thai, Indian, Middle Eastern, Greek & Italian. 3 Read lots of complex recipes on the interwebs or from various cookbooks. That is all!!!

My mom always told me that jews keep their food separated. Maybe you are one of the chosen peoples?

One of my Uncles doesn't like food touching each other. We always found that odd.

I could scoop across my plate and gather all the food and shove it down my gullet. it's all going to the same place.

Where do you all think it goes after you eat it? There's not separate compartments in your belly. PROTIP: it all mixes together after you eat it. Get over it

I HAVE TO SHOW MY BOYFRIEND THIS THREAD.

I can't stand my food touching unless I actively choose to mix them! My mum is the same so I think it's just learned behaviour!

It's annoying when my foods mix, but I can still eat it. I understand how you feel, to a lesser degree. *pat pat*

It doesn't bother me as it all comes out in the end. Cheers! :drinker:

It only bothers me if they're touching each other in inappropriate ways.

I don't like most of my foods to touch but I'm not this bad. I do like divided plates.

It's "crazy" until someone's chocolate pudding and orange juice touch.

It doesn't matter that they mix in the stomach, it's annoying when things that don't go together mix on your taste buds.

I know how you feel. It's more of a liquid thing for me. For instance, I don't like the juice from my corn touching my mashed potatoes. Not that I should be eating much corn or mashed potatoes anyway.

it's not that uncommon, it's to do with how your brain processes incoming sensory data, same reason why some people are more bothered by sock seams or labels in clothing than others, or are very bothered by loud noises or bright lights. These kind of issues tend to co-exist with neurological conditions like ADHD or autistic spectrum disorders, though they can occur on their own as well, i.e. without any other disorder/issues.

I don't think you need to see a professional about it unless it's interfering with your life. If you're happy to just separate your food on your plate and tell other people to get stuffed if they tell you you're weird, then no reason to worry about it.

I was at a bbq one day & my bf tried to be nice and make me a plate.. except that the hot bean juice (whatever the hell you call that) was getting all over the plate and then got all in my potato salad. He didnt understand why I was grossed out. He has the idea that "its all going to the same place" lol

OP, you aren't alone. I've always been like this. I do not want the food on my plate to touch, and keep a small space between each food as I serve myself at mealtime. It's okay if it is already together like a casserole, but if the foods were made individually and never intended to go together, I must separate them and keep them that way until I eat them. My grandfather always thought I was strange that way.

No, I wasn't taught this. No, I did not teach this to my children. It's just one of my little quirks, kind of like how I eat all my vegetables first, saving the main dish for last.

    Brumotactillophobia

This is real! It's a phobia. Pretty common, actually. I wonder, though...if you go to a restaurant, what do you do?

Sounds like a low level phobia.

If you find it intrusive you could try exposure techniques, hypnotherapy or if it really bad then formal CBT.
