So I'm eating my egg and one little piece of shredded potato snuck in there. I wanted to spit it out but I'm at work. I've been like this for as long as I can remember, my foods are not allowed to touch each other unless I mix them together. I can't stand the weird taste and the different textures in my mouth at the same time.

Who else has an aversion to foods touching each other? and why?

I have been like that since I was a kid too. I am getting a little better. Used to, I would have to eat one thing at a time. I couldn't take a bite of meat, then potatoes. I had to finish one before I started on another. I think my is more of an OCD thing.

I agree I can't stand my food touching each other either. I have a plate with dividers in it. Have you tried one of those? Also the different textures is what bothers me, yuck!! So people think I'm weird, who cares I'm the one eating it lol. And so people say it's going to the same place, but again it's mixing in my mouth WHERE I TASTE it, yuck again.

I also don't like my foods to touch. One flavor at a time, please! I also eat all of one food item, and then move on to the next. Normally proteins get eaten first, and the yummy carbs get eaten last.

If they go together, I don't mind them intermingling. I wouldn't want my toast & jam covered in baked beans, though.

I mix all my foods. Hot and cold. Different textures.

If I have salad on my plate of spaghetti...I will mix it...then put it on my bread. Devouring all of it at once is noms!

My son is adamant about his foods not touching each other. He also has a very limited list of foods that he will eat. Most of them are single ingredient foods. The reason for his, is that he has Asperger's, and is very sensitive to various tastes and textures. And likes everything to stay the same.

This could be indicators of mental illness... jus' sayin'.

    Agreed.

It is way more common than you think. Most often it is a learned behavior. But it can also be due to heightened sensitivities to different flavors and textures. They may have a slight tendency towards obsessive behaviors, but unless it becomes a problem and interferes with normal everyday activities, no need for the men in white coats just yet!

Hahaha the most stupid thread I ever read LOL... Whatever you put in your moth separated its gonna be mixed in your pancreas,

    Um... What?

Haha, I missed that! Perhaps someone needs to take an anatomy course? Or just get out more.
