It's "crazy" until someone's chocolate pudding and orange juice touch.

It doesn't matter that they mix in the stomach, it's annoying when things that don't go together mix on your taste buds.

    This
Some people like to enjoy their foods.

Oh, that last picture makes me feel bad!

But I am really picky, I need things to stay separate. There are exceptions, but I generally eat everything super plain, not touching. I haven't had pizza, hamburger, hotdogs or really any sandwiches as I don't like bread and meat in one bite (although I will eat fried chicken and fried fish which I guess is similar).

I don't eat a lot of fruit, but I only eat it plain/alone ... no apple pie, yogurt or smoothies.

THIS is the problem for those of us who don't like our food to touch! It is ok if it mixes AFTER it vacates my taste buds. :ohwell:

I'm the complete opposite. I just pile all of my food on my plate and eat it. When I take a bite I try to get a little of each on the fork.

    *SNORT*

I was going to add that I don't like my food to touch much, and definitely not mix (although I'd dip one food into another...like meat into mashed potatoes)....but my thing is that I have to cut EVERYTHING into bite-sized pieces before I start actually eating. All the meat, the broccoli, etc. Once everything is cut, I will salt, sauce or whatever, and only THEN will I actually take a bite.

I'm the same way....and I also turn my plate so what ever I'm eating is right in front of me....

I do the same thing usually clockwise. Some thing are ok to touch. I also have texture issues.

Orange and chocolate mix fine (I don't like it, but lots do). But something happens when orange juice and chocolate pudding mix that tastes like Death is personally sharpening his scythe on your tongue like a leather strop.

Perhaps, or perhaps it depends on the ratio. 2 drops of OJ in a cup of chocolate pudding should not ruin it, equal parts though, I can see how that could put a damper on your pudding eating enjoyment.

Honestly, I understand that people have their preferences, I'm just poking fun. My wife won't eat anything with a sauce on it, yet if you give her the sauce on the side, she will dip the hell out of it. I can also see if it's at an extreme (say, brussels sprouts covered with cheesecake), but other than that, I just can't imagine having an issue with it myself. Again, that's just ME.

sometimes you're supposed to mix your food. to get the full flavor of the dish you have to take a little bit of each thing and taste it all together. what to do then? do you just not enjoy your meal to its fullest potential?

personally i mix it all up. especially thanksgiving. yummy. :)

I'm not crazy about my foods touching either, but my weird habit is that I only eat one food item at a time. All my veggies, all my meats. I don't skip back and forth between food. My parents still laugh at me about it to this day. LOL

Oh wait... I still eat it. I'm just less happy about it. I'm pretty sure I would never throw away food unless it would literally make me sick.. like if its expired but thats it.

I HAVE TO SHOW MY BOYFRIEND THIS THREAD.

I can't stand my food touching unless I actively choose to mix them! My mum is the same so I think it's just learned behaviour!

YES! My boyfriend thinks I am mental, but he has learned to separate things eg. not put my beans ON my toast. I also have to add my gravy a little a time so I can control the sogginess factor.

I will use different plates or if their is a sauce on something I will put a napkin under that side of the plate so the sauce doesn't get on ANY food its not suppose to be on....I HATE food touching....weird...it all ends up in the same place....OCD maybe a bit here:)

I do this as well although it has gotten so much better as I've gotten older. It used to be really bad when I was young, my mom used to have to put a knife underneath a certain part of my plate to tilt it so that the juices from whatever meat/vegetable she cooked didn't get into the rice/mashed potatoes or whatever else we were having. I can still also only eat one thing at a time though. I can't start eating one thing and then half way through start on another and then go back, and I always eat my least favorite thing first and save my favorite for last.

I can handle foods that are similar textures/consistencies touching a little. If I get a little potato on my steak: tasty!

... If I the "juice" of some food makes contact with a different food, like steak juices mooshing up a roll or baked bean liquid touches potato salad...

    tumblr_mebsamZdlc1rskeexo1_250.gif

Casseroles, stews, and other dishes that are premixed are all good, though. ... Unless they're poorly made, of course.

And even more strangely, I don't mind my food touching, however, I only eat one thing at a time -- whether it has conspired and touched on other food stuffs -- I will only eat one specific food and typically only clockwise on my plate. If I miss a piece of a certain food that I had already eaten and moved onto another food on my plate, I will not go back and grab that last nibble because I've finished with that taste and texture and moved on to something else.

OMG...LOL sorry, I know people like this they have to use a divider plate and a different fork for each food. I guess I don't mind all the different flavors going on at the same time. Some foods demand it.

^^^yep. I don't like my foods to touch either. It's all a texture issue for me. I don't care for jello, many puddings or yogurts either. Sometimes an overly ripe banana will put me off. Plus my mother is the same way- I grew up seeing it.

I can't have my food touch. My family makes fun of me for it because it'll be Thanksgiving or something, and their plates are covered in everything all mushed into one big plate of gross, and I have a couple bites of 2 or 3 options, then finish it, rinse my plate, get a couple bites of 2 or 3 more, repeat till done. I get anxiety over my food touching.

I think mine comes from when I was really young at the babysitter's house, if we didn't finish our lunch, she would put it on one fork/spoon and shove it in our mouths... I'm talking applesauce mixed with mac and cheese mixed with hot dog and ketchup. I used to force myself to finish lunch even if I wasn't hungry just so she wouldn't shove that mixture into my mouth. (May be part of the reason I have a binge eating disorder now too - that lady really f***ed me up early in life)
