Well, got my run in with the windy, rainy weather. Never any torrential downpours or thunder/lightning, so that was good. A little bit of rain blowing in my face, but nothing stinging, lol. Now, just looking forward to zumba after work tonight!WhatMeRunning wrote: »@KatieJane83 - I hear you on the cold rain crapola! I had prepped myself mentally for running yesterday morning when the forecast had been saying for days that it was going to be around 40 degrees with winds arounds 25 miles per hour and heavy rain coming down sideways driven by the wind. I had it all in my mind, running around, pumping my fists at the sky, shouting "Is this the best you got?", gritting onward. Then other things happened and I let myself wait until the afternoon when it was not raining (but was still very windy). At some point all this will let up and it will be sunny and HOT!!
@WhatMeRunning here I am, pumping my fists at the sky for ya, lol.

I am 146 posts behind with no time to catch up. I hope everyone is doing well and their runs are going good.
I met with my trainer about my hip and she thinks maybe I just have 1 flexor tighter then the other naturally. I am adding more foam rolling and stretching and she wants me to shorten my runs for a little while and see if we can get it to loosen up again. She thinks I can still do my half but I am not sure since we are about 40 days out. My number 1 goal is to stay injury free and I am not sure if I can do that this time around. I think it is time to rethink this and maybe concentrate on adding additional runs each week and then try adding mileage again.

@Stoshew71 You're really getting some miles in for so early in the month! I have a feeling the end of the month is going to be spectacular for you!0
-
Haven't been getting anywhere close to the miles I wanted to get in so far... been working late every day this week and have been struggling with energy and feeling worn down. I went out and did a bit more than 5 miles today, sprained ankle at mile 3.5 and decided to head home at that point.0

04/02: 12.1 mile long run, 9:35 pace
04/03: 4.06 mile easy run, 9:37 pace
04/04: 5.02 miles- 7x600m repeats, 2:35 average
04/06: 4.04 mile easy run, 9:22 pace
Total: 25.22 miles
Notes:
Just an easy run today! The wind was pretty crazy here (25+ mph) so my splits were super uneven haha. Decided to run in the afternoon to avoid the morning rain, because unlike some of you there is only so much suck I am willing to embrace! And cold rain + 25 mph winds is too much suck for meLegs feel great today, I can't wait for tomorrow's tempo run! Really busy with paper revisions right now so I'll have to catch up later. Thanks @shanaber and @OSUbuckeye906 for sunscreen suggestions! I ended up buying the neutrogena dry touch SPF 45 spray, but I'll have to wait for amazon to deliver before I can try it out.
Training For:
04/23: Ravenswood Run, 5K (Chicago)
05/21: Chicago Spring Half Marathon
10/08: Chicago Marathon
11/26: Space Coast Half Marathon (Cocoa, FL)7 -
So, I've been thinking about putting on my hydration belt, grabbing 6 gels (enough for 1 gel every 4 miles) and suing this weekend's run as a practice for fueling. Part of me wants to, but part of me is thinking that it might be better to just get the mileage PR this week and bring the fuel on my ruin next week, since they will be the same distance....The things I never thought I'd think about a year ago.....What do you guys think? Or is this another case of me over thinking and being a nervous first time marathoner?0

4/3/17 - 3.8 miles
4/5/17 - 3.2 miles
4/6/17 - 4 miles
11/40 miles for April
I had a nice run today. It wasn't as windy as it has been the last few days. I am still pretty slow. Not really sure if I need to be more focused on pace or distance or either. I really just want to run, but I do want to improve as I am running. I run at a park near my house. It is pretty hilly and my husband tells me my pace would be faster if I ran at the track where it is flat, but I think I would get bored running there. I love the park because it is pretty and there is more going on there.

I've been doing all my running on a TM until this horrid weather breaks here in Maine ( because I'm a wuss). Yes, it's super boring & gets tedious sometimes. Here's my secret for making it more fun: my TM is positioned in front of a window and, the way the light hits it, I can faintly see my reflection in it . I listen to 80's & 90's club music on my headphones and it kinda looks like I'm dancing as I run (because I can only see myself from the waist up). Sometimes, as I'm running, catch a glimpse of my 20 yr. old self even though I'm 45 now.7 -

You'll need in-race fuel. You practice your fueling strategy in training runs. This has several benefits:
a) You can eliminate fuel sources that your digestive system doesn't tolerate before they cause you a problem on race day.
b) You train your body to actually digest the fuel on the run, rather than doing the natural thing of shifting all the blood flow to support running.
c) You develop the habit of fueling, so you're less likely to simply forget on race day. (We're all stupider in the middle of a long race than we are before or after. That's why we plan and practice, so we don't have to do creative thinking when we're not at our best in that department.)
I understand the theory of running fasted to train the body to burn fat. I suspect this is a very important thing for elite athletes, and a fairly minor effect for amateurs running a first marathon. I'd go with practicing to develop habits and race day behaviors because I think that will have a bigger positive impact on your performance than fine-tuning physical training for optimal use of nutrient sources.
But that's just my opinion, and I have no scientific studies to support it.10 -

Today's notes – Today it rained all day, just like the forecast said it would. Got to Cobb's Hill Park, and I sat in my car thinking about the rain, not wanting to get out in it. A few other people arrived, and I got out. Somehow it feels less dumb to stand around in the rain with other people than to do so alone.
Set out for a warm up with 3 other runners. Got to the meeting point a little under 2.5 miles at 5:55. Looked at the whiteboard, chatted briefly with some other team mates about what the workouts were. (I knew the Boston workout, but had to parse a wet whiteboard to see what the Dedham 10K training workout was.) Because I didn't like standing around in the rain, I set off to run the rest of my 3 miles easy, then transition right into 20 minutes at T pace.
Had a shoelace come untied about a mile into the fast 20 minutes. Heh. That had happened last December a mile into Freezeroo #1, a 5K. I knew from experience that I could run another 2 miles in the rain with an untied shoe, so I finished the 20 minutes. Then I stopped to tie my shoe, got up, and ran my 2 miles. Chatted briefly with a couple other runners, then got in my car to head for a warm shower and dry clothes.
It really wasn't all that bad running in rain at 48º F (9º C) with a 10 mph wind. But it was awful standing around in that weather. And if it's 34º F (1º C) with 10 mph ENE wind on April 17 in Hopkinton, there will still be a Boston Marathon. So today was not a day to wimp out and whine about the weather.
Got home, and found a bright spot in the mailbox. Although I was only 8th in my age group at the USATF Masters 8K Championship on March 18, I age graded well. They sent me a medal for that:

6--- I was gonna go run. Then I played Pokemon. Then it got hot, cuz I was sittin' in the car. Then I saw the same guy runnin' and thought poo. I just don't wanna watch him run 20 miles today. I have a steroid shot tomorrow early, so maybe when that kicks in I can kick it up, a little. So ready for some relief. Like stab me in the hip with scissors would be better kinda pain. Of course, I won't think that when they stick a needle 4 inches in to my trochanteric space tomorrow.. frick those shots hurt! Crap. Wish you hadn't brought it up... Now I'm anxious over it. Frick. And I was gonna lose some weight before my appointment.... I ate to many fitness pizzas and ice cream and cupcakes.... Oh dang... I better at least shave my legs..
