TIL in 2001 India started building roads that hold together using polymer glues made from shredded plastic wastes. These plastic roads have developed no potholes and cracks after years of use, and they are cheaper to build. As of 2016, there are more than 21,000 miles of plastic roads.

TIL the origin of the phrase "saved by the bell" -

In the late 1800s-early 1900s, may people feared being misdiagnosed as dead, and subsequently being buried alive. So a safety coffin was invented with a air line to the surface and a bell. The person in the coffin could pull a string to ring the bell, someone would hear the bell, realize they were in fact alive, and dig them up. They were thus, saved by the bell.
