How did you chose your goal weight?

I stopped looking at numbers and instead look at how my body looks and more importantly, feels. The scale doesn't show the whole story. Don't get caught up in the numbers.0

One of my SOs wants me to aim for 130-140 (currently 260).
Unless that SO is a woman with a reasonable head as far as the realities of this world, ignore him. Most men have zero ability to accurately guess what a woman's body weight is at the physical shape he prefers the most for her height. Of the men who can the reason why is frequently because he happened to know/saw you when you were the lighter weight previously.
My data? The thousands of men's dating profiles I've read (or chatted/talked to) over the last 20 years who earnestly believe 105-120 lbs is the correct/ideal body weight for women 5'7"-5'9", per their own words. Yeah, no. Maybe for some super-small framed women. Or porn stars. When I sprung up to 5'7" at puberty, I was scrawny and gangling until I hit 130 lbs and was super-thin even then.
(I used to always win at those 'Guess Your Weight' booths at fairs/events/etc., too, until I finally eclipsed 150 lbs.)
Yeah no.... ignoring him is not an option.
Hold on, wait a moment... how does your SO know what's the right weight for you? And why does your SO get to decide?
It's one thing if your SO is a medical person with specific training in this field, but even then there's not entire agreement on what's a healthy weight for a given person.
But otherwise, that strikes me as violating some healthy boundaries in a relationship.
Some people prefer that type of relationship.1 -

Why not? It's your body and your choice what weight you want to be.

Because we have a different relationship dynamic than most.1 -

You must ... if my husband tried to insist I be a certain weight, it would be a relationship deal breaker. Mine doesn't insist I do anything.
Anyway, at 5'4", a healthy weight range is 107 - 144lbs... so if you did get down to 130-140, that would be within a healthy range.

However, at this point (260 lbs) it is way too early to be making those decisions. Stick with your calorie limit for the next 5 weeks, and see where you are then. Stick to it for another 5 weeks ... and so on. Small steps.
At a rate of 1 lb/week, you could be down to 200 by next August (2018) ... if you stick to it.0 -
When I started I mostly set myself smaller goals but I guess 150lb just sounded like a good number, especially when you're near enough 290lb. I'm near enough there now but I'm probably going to reassess when I've lost the final 5lb. Not that actual weight loss is my goal now, instead I have fitness and strength goals and the weight loss is a by-product (I want to be strong rather than skinny).0

First of all I set a goal of approx 4kg (8.8lbs) lower than my starting weight, just to see if I could lose weight.
Got there and some of my old favourite clothes started fitting, but when I looked in the mirror, I still... clearly needed to lose weight.
Filled with new confidence about my self-discipline and success in weight loss, I set a new target of tippy-top of BMI for my height, but I broke that down into mini-goals. Although I knew my main goal was that, I focused purely on how close I was to the next mini-goal at all times and no further.
Now I'm working on getting a bit nearer to the middle of the range for my height. Again, I'm taking it a kilogram at a time.

My current goal is what https://tdeecalculator.net/ tells me my healthy weight is.
I'm aiming for about 5 to 10lbs over that first since it'll be in healthy range anyway, hopefully start gaining some muscle and toning up while losing the rest! I still have about 40-50lbs to go before I get to that anyway, so we'll see.0
