9/1: Rest day

9/3: Rest day (11.5 hours of sleep!)
9/4: 6 miles
9/5: Rest day
9/6: We'll see....
22 of 250 220 goal miles
Definitely reassessing my goal for the month after this weekend/start to this week. I skipped my Sunday morning group run because of rain and slept an extra 3 hours for a grand total of 11.5 hours of sleep. And yet I'm STILL dragging. I ran Monday morning and then was lazy yesterday -- I'd normally do a 5:30 am track workout but my workout buddy wouldn't be there so I slept in, and then it was really hot in the afternoon and a 10-11 mile workout in 85F heat didn't appeal to me. And I MIGHT run this evening if we aren't having major storms, but we're supposed to have thunderstorms off and on all day.
Tl;dr: I've been a lazy bum for most of September so far.
However my running buddy will be back tomorrow for tempo Thursday so we agreed we'd do a motivation reset tomorrow
MEANWHILE... 150 new posts??!?! Yeah, not going to be able to read through all that. You all are prolific!
Upcoming Races:
Sept 16: Baker's Revenge 10 mile trail race
Oct 8: Steamtown Marathon
Oct 22: Perfect 10 miler
Nov 5: Princeton Half Marathon (pacer)

What a beautiful morning, honestly I was cold until like mile 2. It's going to be like this for the rest of the week. Hard to believe it's Alabama in September, but I won't complain.
5 -
I skipped a few runs, opting for more sleep which I desperately needed after my late work hours last week. I did manage a couple nice runs over the weekend. 8.1 miles Sunday and 9.1 miles Monday, both night runs. Monday's run was after the cold front moved through. It was a beautiful night for a run!!
Planning on a short run tonight with Kody.

Got my 3 mile walk/run done last night. The weather was great. Everything else was crap. Wardrobe issues, an incredible urge to pee, throat so dry from allergy meds that I started gagging once because there was no moisture to help me swallow, I ran into somebody I knew and had no idea lived near me and I was just exhausted.
I had woken up super tired yesterday, then around 5:30 or 6pm I was so fed up with sneezing my head off and blowing my nose that I took a Benadryl. So I left around 7:15 for my walk/run and I was thinking why am I so tired and dragging? Totally forgot I'd taken Benadryl! I barely managed to shower afterwards and fell asleep with wet hair before 9pm!
We got our huge cool front that dropped us from a high of 90 on Monday to a low of 49 this morning. Would've been awesome to get out this morning but the reaction I have to ragweed is insane and mornings are terrible right now. September is usually still pretty warm in Arkansas so I'm sure fall is not here to stay.
@amtyrell I would ice and rest your knee if it hurts to run on it Since walking feels fine, do some walking so you don't stiffen up. It'll heal faster probably if you don't push yourself to run through pain.4 -
9/1 = 5.5 miles
9/2 = Rest Day
9/3 = 16.5 miles (run/walk intervals)
9/4 = 8.5 miles and a Hatha yoga class
9/5 = Camp Gladiator class
9/6 = 6 miles and 45 minutes strength training
It is supposed to be a low to 59 degrees tonight - 59 degrees! I want to call "sick" to work tomorrow so I can run long in the morning - but I wont. Being an adult sucks.
I am thinking about any of you in Florida and praying for your safety. Hurricane Irma looks like its getting much stronger than Hurricane Harvey that just hit Texas.
(September miles) 36.5/175 (September goal miles)
Upcoming Races:
10/28 = Hill Country Halloween Half Marathon
12/10 = BCS Marathon
1/6/18 = River Road Run Half Marathon2 -
Is it bad that on my son's first day of school all I can think about is the song "Billy Joe McGuffrey was a really clumsy kid"
Specifically:
Now, Billy Joe McGuffrey
was a really clumsy kid.
On the eighth day of eighth grade
I'll tell you what he did.
He tried to play some basketball,
went up for a dunk,
landed in the bushes
and got squirted by a skunk!
He needed first aid in the eighth grade,
first aid in the eighth grade,
first aid in the eighth grade.
You could buy a zoo with all the doctor bills he paid.

Running is on the back burner right now. The next several days are all about Irma. Prep, evacuation, return, and clean up. It's going to be a long couple of days,
@Dcorrick are you evacuating? We're securing the yard and house today and tomorrow and deciding on Friday or Saturday if we're going to bug out.0 -
@PastorVincent haha It's only bad if you are singing it to your son.0
-
@amymoreorless I know just how you feel. It is only 75 right now and I really wish I could leave work to go run right now. Tomorrow morning should be really nice. I will probably think it is "cold". Lol1
-
@amymoreorless I have some similar thoughts here as it is cooling down for fall.1

Nominal Mileage goal: 200 miles.
Elevation goal: 15000ft
Today's notes: Got up and got to running by 0435 this morning. Was initially planning on getting in 8 miles, but then I remembered that I had to drop off my truck at the dealership and then walk to school, so I cut it off at 10k distance. Run felt good, averaged 11:50 which surprised me, since I felt slow, but I was almost the exact same pace as yesterday. Felt OK cutting it short because that extra 2 would have put me at 60 for the week, and that was more an ego number than a needed training number.

59 glorious degrees this morning when I went out to run! I did my 5 miles and felt great!
I'm praying for my family and friends down in Florida! I'm glad hurricanes give folks some heads up. Our tornadoes happen with little or no warnings!7 -

Threw my back out Sunday wrestling with my toddler at church. So I took it really slow for a couple of days. Ran last night and felt pretty good. Even the tweaky knees felt better. My first time running at night and it was really humid but it felt good to stretch my legs again. Tonight I'll walk or do yoga.

Those of you in the path of Irma, you're in my prayers.
A little late to the body lube discussion but I toss in my 2¢. I tried Body Glide for over a year and was never really happy with it. Just not enough glide. I heard about Trail Toes from some trail runners and tried it and love it! Even though it's called Trail "Toes", it works well for all body parts. I'm getting close to the end of my tub and even though it works great, I'm going to try a different product next called Vaniply. One of the local trail race series hands out samples and I have a few now. I found out that I used to work with the two guys who founded the company...some 30 years ago...so I'll give them business at least once, more if it works well.
For nipples I just use the cheapest small circle bandaids I can find. I believe my last box was $2.50 for 100. Cheap and work well.
When I ran my 50K in April somehow I forgot to use the bandaids!!! I didn't realize it until after the race was over, which was the exact same moment that I discovered that I didn't need nip protection when wearing my Ultimate Direction hydration pack. SOOOOOO happy for that!
@WandaVaughn Did you get your shoes at a running store? Any running store I've been to around here will take back any shoe in within 30 days. If they don't, I wouldn't shop there again. You need to put miles on your shoes to know if they're really for you and any good running store understands that. As far as socks, they are like shoes...what works for one person may or may not work for another. Many folks love SmartWool socks but I can't stand them. Too slippery in my shoes. My preference is for DryMax or FitSok. It is worth trying different socks until you find what you love.
And for your 50 years old question, I ran my first (and only) marathon at 49 and my first (and only) 50K at age 50. In January I turn 51 and plan on running my first 50 mile race. At 52 I plan on my first 100K. At 53 I plan on my first 100 Mile race.
@Dcorrick & @skippygirlsmom thank you
@_nikkiwolf_ a trail running vacation?!?!? Sounds awesome!
@ariceroni that would be quite a sight to see a runner licking their arms on a run!
@JessicaMcB OUCH!!!
@shanaber I love that profile picture!
@HonuNui thanks! I have looked into what the National MS society offers and found they have a DIY program for an event such as I'm planning. It sounds like it would take are of the money end and allow me to have a site for folks to go to read about what I'd be doing and donate if they wish. If I go through with this, that's the route I'll take. Nice bird pics!
@lporter229 sorry that race was so poorly organized. After the time and money you put in to getting there, you're right to expect more. If you want to see the race succeed, I'd bring up your concerns (with suggestions for solutions) with the organizer. I'm sure he wants it to be the best it can be and wants to know how the race is perceived from the runners standpoint. And always bring your own light to a night race
@BrianAWeber when I trail run, I listen to the sounds of nature. I never have music playing. When I run on pavement, it varies between trail running podcasts to music. I have a long running playlist which I put on shuffle and often listen to that but sometimes the mood strikes for a specific band or genre. I used to inhale audio books while driving. I tried it once for running and kept getting lost in my own thoughts and had to go back to hear what I missed. That happens with podcasts too, but I rarely feel compelled to go back.
@Elise4270 I like the gear, particularly the shorts!PastorVincent wrote: »That is why all of my stuff is black. I do not have to worry about all this silly matching stuff
@hanlonsk I think you have awesome fashion sense!
@mobycarp congrats on Rochester Runner of the year!!
@Orphia thanks for posting the link to your marathon recap. I missed it first time around since I was AWOL from teh group. You nailed it! Love the pics.
@klovold1983 good to see another Minnesotan here! I'm in the Twin Cities.
@ctlaws44 I do the same thing to practice my balance. I'm amazed at how much better my balance has become since doing it. It literally takes no time to do because you do it when you're just standing there anyway. The key is to remember to do it. I'll also work my core when I read in bed. I'll either lift up my chest just slightly off the mattress, or lift up my legs. Go as long as I can, rest, then back at it. Cheap, easy core work that takes ZERO time to do.6 -
@Orphia funny you should ask about the AIM for the Cure Melanoma run (virtual) because I just signed up for it about 10 minutes ago after seeing it on @Elise4270 list of races. I tried to pick an option where they don't send me a shirt and medal so the organization can save the expense and put the money where it needs to go but unfortunately that wasn't an option.4
-
9/1 13.1 miles! 2h:09m:49s
9/2 3.1mi 31m:56s
9/3 rest
9/4 4.38mi 41m:07s
9/5 6mi 57m:38s
9/6 4mi 39m:50s
A hot 4 miles. I ran 3, then did walk/run intervals the last mile. Tomorrow is 7 miles, but it's supposed to be cooler.0 -

Enjoy the shirt and medal. Commemorate the occasion in honor of Steve. I think wearing that shirt will be like hugging @HonuNui. It'll be special to me.
Glad I could inspire you Pat Lenny.6 -

Slow start to September since my training plan was light for the weekend. That actually worked out pretty well since it was a holiday weekend. BUT I was definitely itching to run on my extra rest day. So far I've run 10.11 miles this month out of my planned 121.3. I have 7 miles on the agenda for tonight after work.1
-
I've only run 1 day so far this month but tomorrow will be back at it!
And if the hurricane comes here, biking will be impacted so may run some more! 3 days of biking 135 miles... sitting wasn't fun yesterday. But I'm better now thanks to Desitin... yep, the diaper rash stuff.
Hobbes, the Vizsla was dog of the day yesterday in my classroom! @shanaber's dog!
Not sure why the picture comes out all blue... but it is white on my projector.
9/1 - 5 miles
9/2 - 45 miles biking
9/3 - 40 miles biking
9/4 - 50 miles biking

Where do you all live? I am north of Orlando - Longwood. I'm being hopeful that they won't cancel school here! If we miss days we have to make them up Thanksgiving week. I saw Osceola closed so I'm not too hopeful Orange won't.1 -
@DCorrick and @bettyM1017 stay safe. My brother and other family is just North of Tampa so I’m watching like a hawk too.
@karllundy it’s very seldom I hear “ouch” out of you, are you okay?
@wandaVaughn you little speed demon
@katharmonic super mile time! Strava is so rude with that rounded down that I actually continue down my street when my Garmin hits the X.0 so that I get full credit from Strava. “maybe even changed seasons” ha ha I’m so going to use that comment in my life.
@orphia Skip and I are signed up a ready to go
@PastorVincent I’ve never heard of changing a bus halfway wow.
@Stoshew71 you know I have to mention that I have more miles than you, because never in the years I’ve know you has that ever happened until the 1st of the month was your rest day Now you may go forth and kick my *kitten*
@greenolivetree I hope the allergies let up soon
I agree with @kgirlhart on the song @pastorvincent
@sarahthes hope the back feels better
@elise4270 I love this so much “I think wearing that shirt will be like hugging @HonuNui. It'll be special to me.”
